"Marriage" (of Convenience) Proposal
So I still haven't had the chance to totally wrap my mind around all this. But last night I got a call from a good friend/ex-wing. Apparently, a mutual acquaintance needs a place to stay since she won't be renewing her luxury apartment lease. Fair enough, I've got a big place, and I'll help her out. Maybe she'll even throw me a grand per month in return?! Or so I thought.

Apparently, she's looking to buy a fancy condo. And her credit is 800+ but due to a business deal gone sour, it needs to be done as marital property. She's a successful woman in her early 40's with 1M in assets, selling real estate every now and then. But from what I can gather, it's mostly a life of leisure for her. Divorced/no kids and attractive for her age, I even caught myself thinking she was pretty hot, last time we all hung out.

Meanwhile, I'm divorced too/no kids, self-employed and run my own businesses. I do okay, but she def. has more bank. I've grown very comfortable living the player lifestyle though, banging out college aged chicks more than half my age, mostly from online. I've been getting tired of the DC grind too, making plans to move somewhere warmer with friendlier chicks and a lower cost of living.

Bottom line: in exchange for trading my "single" status to "married" she's offering to sell my house w/no commission, saving at least $40k vs. an outside realtor. So that should leave me with a nice little sum to invest elsewhere, perhaps on a secondary place to live outside the area. And whenever I'm in town, I'll be staying with her in our condo, which she's totally paying for, including utilities/HOA fees. Since it's 'marital property' though, I'll be entitled to half should things turn sour and we split up.

Plus, she'll be buying all the groceries/cooking for us, and working for me free of charge. But here's the real kicker: she's totally okay if I continue with the lifestyle, even offering to scout college-aged chicks. Of course we'll have a serious pre-nup in place before any of this goes down.

Yes, I'll be legally "married" and no longer living alone with all the freedom I've been enjoying. But on the other hand, I'll have most expenses covered with much less pressure. Having another good friend (and/or FWB) is always nice. She may even help bring in additional income?! And I can still get away to another city/residence, banging out other women over there and here with her total blessing, etc.

Obviously, the benefits seem to outweigh the negatives. Maybe it's too good to be true even?! But living with and being "married" to somebody way older than those I'm typically dating will be strange, particularly with there being no real mutual attraction, as far as I can tell. And it could be awkward bringing chicks home, telling them I'm single, etc.

I'll be meeting with her in person this Wed. night to discuss everything in detail. But are there any possible pitfalls I'm not considering??? What other angles should I be hitting here in our 'negotiations'?!

RE: "Marriage" (of Convenience) Proposal
You should hire a private investigator to check out everything about her before you commit to anything with her. Even then, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

Maybe she has a psycho ex who sees her living with you and his jealousy overwhelms him, so he decides Midas needs to die.

Maybe she has a sibling or close friend who ends up crashing at your place for a year.

Maybe she gets mugged, disappears and everyone blames you, and finds the short 'courtship' period very suspiscious.

'A business deal gone sour' is so fucking vague thats no justification for a fake marriage.

@B: That's my question, exactly!

@DV: Good advice on the bkgnd check! I'm not so sure on the others, but def. 'food for thought'. And 'business deal gone sour' are my words, not hers, just to keep the posting from being even longer than it already is. But her actual explanation seemed perfectly legit. Yes, she wants to buy/invest rather than rent and needs another name on the deed. It seems like she's willing to give up A LOT in return though?!

DON'T. Fraud marriage is a FEDERAL crime.

Spidey sense IMMEDIATE alarm-- she is NOT telling you the whole story, and the information is NOT being withheld for YOUR benefit, but for HERS.

Whenver dealing with any woman, of any age, for any reason:

1) NEVER believe excuses.
2) Never BELIEVE excuses.
3) Never believe EXCUSES.

"She has an 800 rating but due to a bad biz deal" --my black ass.

But her actual explanation seemed perfectly legit.

NOooooooooo you don't get it--
they are born master liars because at the time they say it, it "feels" true to them, or as if it SHOULD be true. They don't have an internal cognitive state to maintain in the same way non-psychopathic men do.

They don't have any real concept of honesty-- except insofar as it applies to MEN-- THEN their idea of honesty is total, absolute confessional candor.

For THEM, "truth" is whatever they feel comfortable saying. And you should understand.

Ok, I read you loud and clear, bro! And I'm certainly not looking to commit fraud of any kind. But how is this different from other 'marriages of convenience' (e.g. Bill and Hillary, Clooney and his new wife, etc.)??? Even traditional 'love-based' marriages often morph into economic-based ones over time, right?!

What are you getting out of the deal exactly?

I mean, what is this going to put into your pocket?

Reading a lot of 'maybe she will' & 'she said she would' here.
The baitworm of possibility being dangled is a powerful one i suppose.
What i'm seeing is she gets what she wants & you having to make a series of little shark bite accommodations for her. I'm not against investment risk but you'd have to evaluate whether this arrangement suits your risk appetite (how much are you comfortable with?)
Write down & analyse how this arrangement will affect your boundaries & space (house), lifestyle logistics (travel arrangement), finances (probe her more about that business deal that went sour) & YOUR reputation.

Alpha Romeo asked what you stand to put in your pocket. I'll add couple of questions. What do you stand to give up or lose? Is it worth it?

RE: "Marriage" (of Convenience) Proposal
Excellent analysis...thx!

I'll be pushing her for specifics on Wed. And everything will eventually be spelled out in the written agreement, if we decide to move forward. Financially it seems to make good sense. Plus, she's fine with me banging out other chicks. So far the only parts that seem vague are her promises to help find me side women and investing in future business endeavors.

NEGATIVES:

Losing freedom of living alone.

Official 'married' status could hurt gaming opportunities.

Hopefully we'll get along?!

Downsizing from single family home in suburbs to luxury condo in city.

POSITIVES (In order of concrete/important to speculative/less important):

Planning to sell house and relocate anyway, but now I can delay the move and/or don't need to drop $$$ on hotels whenever visiting DC.

For as long as I'm staying in DC, now living expenses are totally free, allowing me to bank an extra $60k/yr with much less pressure.

If deal turns sour, I could leverage divorce w/50% ownership in condo despite not paying mortgage, HOA fees, utilities or down payment. So we'd sell or she would buy me out at market value.

She sells current single family home w/out commission, so I'm saving at least $40k additional.

Working for me free of charge, hopefully boosting revenue.

Saving time and $$$ buying food/cooking.

Possible tax breaks if filing jointly.

Could turn out to be a good friend (and/or FWB).

Cute dog that she's responsible for.

Invests in future business deals.

Assists w/scouting chicks.

I logged in just to tell you DON'T do it!!!!!

Don't ever get involved with a woman that is a schemer!!!

If a woman is capable of thinking and fallowing trough of a scheme this is a huge red flag!!!!!

It could be smart to even consider this only if you have a leverage on her like blackmail material, own assassins for hire or have a child of hers kidnapped or have her hooked up on a drug she is addicted to otherwise she will turn on you when it suits her and she feeels like it.

RE: "Marriage" (of Convenience) Proposal
This deal requires actual performance on your part vs a lot of promises by her that are either unenforceable or would require legal action to enforce if she decided to not fulfill her side. What are you going to do if you show up at the condo and she's had the locks changed? What if she calls 911 and claims you hit her? You'll be arrested and have a restraining order barring you from the condo. Hope you have a good, affordable lawyer to handle all the ways this could go bad.

Any woman who would suggest this scheme has, I guarantee you, been involved in numerous shady dealings in the past. Any potential gain is not even worth the risk. I wouldn't even consider this further.

Like others have said find out more about her.

You need to consider the worse case scenario and if its a risk you are willing to take. IMO if you dont know her well dont do it.

RE: "Marriage" (of Convenience) Proposal
aside from my unhinged rant aginst this, when she says she's selling your house "for no commission" you can be sure she's getting some under-the-table money.
Why do you believe she's living in a "luxury" apartment? If it's true , why do you believe it is really hers? It could be the apartment of the last guy she sold on shit like this and MURDERED.

She's an ACQUAINTANCE not a friend. It just sounds wildly shady.

What's with all the ?!s. I don't know, but this sounds like a chic, no offense OP if you aren't one. If you're real, don't do it. It's a fraud, either intentional or otherwise.

Midas, how are you going to get an enforceable pre-nup without having to wait at least 6 months? What kind of woman with 1M liquid wants to fake-marry pre-nup or not? Women with money are normally VERY reluctant to marry, they know the game. Which head are you thinking with?

I hope you go through with it. This will be a good example for the younger forum members. Please be sure to post once this all shakes out.

You should definitely investigate further. If she was serious and no fraud intended, she would not offer you all that, but try to negotiate down. It seems too good to be true.

This is the most ridiculous and most naive thing I've read in here!
The most beta post of the year so far! Hands down!

The only woman you could trust with something sooo risky would be your sister. And even that would require a lot of clear thinking! But for an acquaintance, who's a divorcette? Not even a fool would entertain such a thing, let alone do it!

Either a troll or a an extreme case of beta thirst!

He should meet her and tell her he will do it on one condition. She has a give him a blowjob once a month on request. Then tell her he needs to know if she is good at it first and they can do it in his car in the parking lot.

Then go no contact.
