Gay Hollywood Writers Groom 13 yr old actors for gay kiss on ABC Family
Quote:“If people want to judge it I think maybe they should watch and see how carefully, delicately and chastely it was handled,” co-creator Peter Paige tells TheWrap
ABC Family’s “The Fosters” drew both praise and criticism this week for a daring gay kiss scene between two 13-year-old male characters. But, the show’s creators said they were merely staying true to their story.
“If people want to judge it, I think maybe they should watch and see how carefully, delicately and chastely it was handled. We are not here to sensationalize or exploit anyone,” Peter Paige, the drama’s co-creator, told TheWrap.
The kiss between Jude (Hayden Byerly) and Connor (Gavin MacIntosh), conceived of in the early days of Season 1 had been a long time coming. But the executives said that ABC Family, while tremendously supportive of the idea, had asked them to slow down the relationship and shelf the kiss for Season 2.
Ultimately, both creators felt the network’s note was a smart one. “I’m glad we took more time to invest in the friendship of these two guys,” co-creator Bradley Bredeweg said. “It allowed for this moment to feel as earned as possible.”
“It took two full seasons to build up to this one very simple, but very important moment,” Paige added.
The creators-executive producers also discussed how they prepared the two young actors for the on-screen kiss, where Jude and Connor’s (“Jonnor”) relationship will go from here, and what it might mean to young gay viewers hoping to see their own stories reflected on screen.
TheWrap: Did the writer’s room worry about how audiences would react to the kiss?
Peter Paige: We try not write stories based on reaction. We try to write them based on character integrity as we understand it and observe it. This story is very true. Both Brad and I are gay men and it felt very true to both of our early coming out experiences. More than anything else, we felt responsibility to those kids and to our younger selves who didn’t see themselves reflected anywhere… We’ve all been watching stories about heterosexuals forever… As a gay kid you are always having to translate. You are always having to pretend like you are one of the other characters. You’re not seeing your life accurately reflected.
Bradley Bredeweg: The one conversation we had was, “Could you imagine if this show was on when we were 13, 14, 15 years old?” It’s that desire, like Peter said, to be represented and to have the audience feel like they can see themselves in at least one of the characters.
When people question the scene my response has been: “Everyone has a first kiss and you remember it. How old were you?” Ninety percent of people who have an answer come back and say, “I was 12, 13 and 14 years old,” and I say, “Exactly. It was time to see this, time to put this up for the world.” Then people understand, they’re able to wrap their heads around it.
Can you describe the reactions you’ve seen?
Bredeweg: Based on the internet response, the fans are completely invested in the relationship…. We’ve invested time and care and integrity into it and people are moved by the payoff.
There have also been outspoken critics. What do you say to them?
Paige: I would say its very easy to balk at or sensationalize the headline, but its hard to deny the truth or the integrity of the whole story… We are here to tell the true stories of what it is to grow up and these are true stories of what it is to grow up as a young, potentially gay person. It’s the truth and that’s all.
How did you prepare your two young actors?
Paige: We certainly wanted to make sure they knew where things were headed… We brought them in several times over the course of the season to check in and talk about where things are going and to make sure they were on board and why it was important to us.
Bredeweg: When we sat down with our two actors, we also brought their parents into the conversation. They were supportive, too, and understood what we are trying to do. Peter and I realized early on that if we were going to go down this road we wanted to stay in constant communication… It was an open dialogue and it was fantastic. Everyone felt very protected and also on the same page… [During the shoot] they were both so charming and professional and excited and ready to finally put this out into the world… They were very proud of it. It was very sweet to be there that day.
Where does “Jonnor’s” story go from here?
Paige: There is plenty more Jonnor to come.
Bredeweg: I just left the writers room and you look up on our white boards and you see Jude and Connor everywhere. They are a big part of Season 3 and we are super excited and proud to put them out in the world even more.
Edit: I should say that the thing that grosses and creeps me out the most about this is that they are obviously not adult actors playing teens. It would be one thing if this was 18 or 19 year old actors who were gay and looked young enough to play high schoolers but god damn. This makes my skin crawl.
Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.
Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

If what grinds your gears is fictional TV shows not accurately portraying your personal sex life, you have serious personal issues and, no, having some boys who are barely teenagers swap spit won't change this.
And this is more about the breakdown of the family, as the writers assume children look to TV shows for advice, not their parents.

Agreed. This is the problem with going down the road where we say "all life styles are equal."
"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.
Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector."

Fictional? I don't care about the show, I haven't watched it and don't know what it is even about. My problem is that two, or more, gay writers and producers set out intentionally to recruit two young boys for a gay kiss on a network that is aimed at children and families. Like I said, these aren't adults playing teens like the older shows like Saved by the Bell or 90210. Hell, these boys don't even look 13 to me, they look younger than that. To me this comes across as gay men fetishizing young boys and a large part of our perverse culture is championing this sick shit. But what do I know.

Oh, no problem. Can you imagine how fucked up these kids are going to be in the future. They are not even old enough to drive but their parents can pimp them out for gay make out sessions on family tv. I have heard some rumors, but don't know much about it because I don't watch much tv and don't follow celebrity gossip, that some of the big time players in Hollywood are not only gay but groom the younger boys to be gay. There was some rumor about one of the directors of the xmen movies, Bryan Singer (sp?), who had a bunch of actors going back decades come out against him or something like that.

I can understand the effort to "normalize" homosexuality.
If you have been attracted to men as long as you remember, obviously you do not want to go through life believing that "there is something wrong with you."
But that doesn't make homosexuality good for society.
I've got mixed feelings on the subject, because I haven't seen evidence that all gay relationships are absolutely terrible for society.
That being said, gayness falls easily into the category of "not particularly helpful for society."
Just like women waiting till 30 to have children is "not particularly helpful for society" gayness isn't doing us any favors.
A society is strong when its common man is motivated to build that society.
Gay men are evolutionary screw-ups that have no reason to be motivated to build anything...it's just far too easy for them to take an ass pounding in the ass at the local bathhouse instead.
Many societies in the past placed a great emphasis on people fulfilling their useful role.
Red-pill in a society where men gain no return from contributing to society is to consider not contributing at all.
Red-pill in a society that honours the contributions of hardworking men, is to earn that honour.
If gay men have to be gay, that's fine with me, but I don't want to see things promoted on TV that aren't useful to society, whether that be underage gay kissing or 35 year old women achieving sexual satisfaction while extracting a unreturned value from society.
I don't want to see these lifestyles promoted. They are not useful lifestyles and they may well be downright harmful lifestyles (to the health of society).
While I'm a big fan of people doing what they want behind closed doors, this sort of advocacy is going to see people like me wanted to legally ban gayness altogether to protect our offspring from stupid ideas.

Remember when Ellen Degeneres simply acknowledging that she was a lesbian was a big deal and highly controversial in the 90's?
Now you have teenagers engaging in homosexuality on family television programs, and this is presented not only as normal, but as something to be applauded. This is behavior displayed in such a fashion as to encourage emulation by children who see it.
It's important for people to understand that there is an active campaign of brainwashing underway in the mainstream media and entertainment industry, a campaign that seeks to normalize aberrant behaviors like homosexuality. You are being programmed without your knowledge or consent simply by viewing and consuming these media programs. Subtly over time you are desensitized and begin to regard these scenes that you are exposed to as being normal, and thus healthy. This process of familiarization and desensitization through popular media is how homosexuality went from being regarded as a mental illness, to a perversion, to an alternative lifestyle, to a normal behavior, to something to be celebrated and applauded in just a few decades.
This shit is dangerous. Stop watching it. I'm extremely vigilant about what media I consume these days. It's important to understand that by consuming media you are beaming sound and images directly into your brain, at which point you have no way of getting them out, and no way of knowing how these sound and images (which are carefully crafted by professional producers, directors and marketers) will impact your perception of reality.
Want to see what I'm talking about? Put your television in the closet, cancel your Netflix account, and resolve not to consume any entertainment or new media. Do this for a month or two and notice how much it affects your interactions with others and your perceptions of reality in general. It's shocking to realize how completely programmed by media most people are.
Attached: behold the success of media brainwashing:
"For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away. But the word of the Lord endureth forever.” - 1 Peter 1:24-25

Back on the gay thing.
Everything I have read about same-sex relationships convinces me they are not normal.
The most salient example being the higher rates of domestic violence (especially among lesbians which is amusing to point out to feminists. Either lesbians are more violent or women not being as abusive is down to their physical weakness to men).
So, let them get married but don't push it on the rest of society out of vengeance.
And it is revenge, in Sweden the LGBT lobby often demeans Churches despite Sweden being so tolerant of them.

It's common knowledge that a lot of parents of child actors pimp out their kids so they can get on shows and make money that ultimately the parents will spend.
They couldn't care less; some of these kids are engaging in sexual acts off-camera with adults, now they're doing it on-camera with peers.

They are pushing lesbian relationships as well in at least two comic book shows, Gotham and Arrow. Walking Dead has it too, but its a gay couple which was in the original source, if that makes it suddenly more acceptable. The defenders of the couple use that logic even though they probably didn't even read the source.

What do you think of the proposal of not only banning homosexual propaganda and suppressing sodomy but also giving such men the option of exit. So that when they feel oppressed or if they are dissatisfied with the heteronormativity of society they can have their own society separate from it and not negatively impacting the original society.

Agreed. The problem is the negative side effects.
If the elites want population control and don't want to use the China route of one kid per family, then at least let men have some sexual outlet in the form of prostitution.
