If i thought civil unrest was possible, i'd buy a crossbow at least. Plus two weeks of food. The foods more important really. Also you need to consider that your electric, gas and water might be cut off.

Water, water, water. Stock up as many bottles of water as humanly possible. When shit really hits the fan, fill up your bathtub and sinks. There won't be any shortage of fresh meat, it's thirst and bacterial infections that are deadliest.

Is that for survival or for the removal of the gas from the eventual farts?

You know, just because the powers that be say you can't have a weapon doesn't mean you shouldn't have one.

When some guy is coming at me with intent in my own home the last thing on my mind is peace, love and understanding. He will find either my crowbar, my machete or a large razor sharp 15" meat slicer in his head.

Fuck consequences. Would-be thugs and killers deserve what they get.

I'm following some of the advice and stocking up on food, water and batteries.

A few of my friends are doing the same. You can't be too careful.

RE: Protecting my ass if anarchy comes?
I'll answer this seriously.

First, there is a lot of survival information on the net. Most forums seem to spend most of their time debating guns or talking about financial collapse but there is still some good information out there.

The first thing to remember is the rule of three. Three minutes of life in a harsh environment, three days of life without water, and three weeks of life without food.

So, plan according to the rule of three.

IF you are in a cold, or hot, environment you may not have more than 3 minutes or so to act before hyper/hypo-thermia, suffocation (due to drowning or a house fire), or harm due to a predator (in this case some one breaking into your house) gets you. So, again plan accordingly.

Think about what you would do in these situations, and others like them. Do you have a fire emergency plan? An escape plan? A plan of attack? A meet up place for you and your family/friends in case of a disaster? Forget guns and all of that stuff for a minute.

More than likely what will happen to most of us at some point in time is that we will find ourselves in an emergency that isn't comparable to a complete societal collapse or zombie apocalypse or whatever.

It is far more likely to be a tornado, earthquake, forest fire, or car accident or something along those lines.

So, one thing to do is put together a BOB (bug out bag) with a few essentials. Survivalists like to talk about BOBs all the time and a lot of people end up paying a lot of money for stuff that they really don't need or don't know how to use.

I prefer a different and cheaper way. A 5-10$ school backpack from the dollar store is fine. Fill the bottom of the bag with the things you will need last or things you will need if you have a safe place. So, things like toilet paper (unless your planning on dropping your pants while in immediate danger, which I would advise against Smile), change of underwear and clothes, and a simple meal kit. You don't even need to buy any camping stuff. Simply take a few small pots that fit inside each other, preferably with a lid over the larger one, and fill them with a few lighters, a couple boxes of matches, and anything else you want like a multi-tool and a spoon and fork and maybe a knife. I would also throw in some tea bags and little fast food size packets of ketchup or maybe some instant coffee or Gatorade. Coffee filters are good too because you can filter out most of the contaminates in the water before you boil it...which is a must.

One saying is the following: Two is one, one is none.

The reason for this is that if you only have one of something and it breaks or gets lost then you are without. So, look at the first rule of three. If it is cold outside and you need to start a fire to keep yourself from freezing to death, how are you going to do that if you lighter dies on you?

Hope you not only have a back up lighter but also a back up way of starting fire and generating heat. So, matches, a 9v battery and steel wool, extra windproof lighters, ferro rod and metal striker, etc. I would also throw in some emergency blankets and those chemical heat packs. A poncho is also good.

Another thing to do is make a copy of all your documents and then scan them. Once scanned put them on a few USB sticks and drop them in your pack.

Then look at the other two in the rule of three. You need water, after you have safe shelter, and food after you have water. So, pack a bunch of bottled water and some dry food. I would also put in some other things, like a few cheap flashlights, extra batteries, a few extra pocket knives, and probably an extra change of clothes and sturdy shoes. Oh and a med kit. It is better to build your own but even a cheap store bought one is better than none.

Now, you can put together your BOB however you want but when I made mine I didn't spend more than about 45$ at Walmart and the dollar store. I also already had a few things sitting around that I repurposed.

So, now that you have a evac plan and a BOB sitting in you closest you are far ahead of 90% of the population. Hopefully nothing bad happens but one thing to remember is that it is far more likely for you to end up in a tornado storm or house fire than some end of the world survival situation. But, by have a plan and a bare essential survival pack you can, if you have some basic skills, survive either or at least have a better chance of surviving either than those who sit around with their thumb up their asses.

Also, if you can get a gun then go ahead. A good .22 and a good 12G shot gun will protect your from most any type of predator and also put food on your table. All of this is of course going to be tailored to your specific location. If you live in a hurricane zone then it will make more sense to prepare for that than if you live in the middle of flyover country that gets tornados.

Also, don't go the whole lone wolf route that so many preppers and survivalists play up. In a real emergency a group is far better than holding up in your bomb shelter alone. So, learn a few skill that might help out in a group setting. A basic one would be CPR and first aid.

Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.

Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

I agree. A crossbow allows one to hunt animals and to kill hostiles without making too much noise. And there is no need for ammo, for arrows can be reused.

Ideally, one would live in a large building where one's neighbors are one's buddies. In case of social unrest, the whole building could be defended by a cohesive platoon-sized unit.

Store food. Saves you money too since food generally rises in price. I have enough to ration for a few months.

Empty containers to store water when the time come. Store a little water before hand but not to much since water actually becomes unsafe after time unless you use bleach.

Hey Troll King, that's some pretty good advice. You might wanna write a basic emergency/survival guide sometimes for us all Smile

About not going lone wolf. People become so undependable and unstable during a crisis, and I've never been a team person to begin with. How best to form a survival group?

@Icarus, I also like the idea of crossbows, and I used to be archery club co-president in college. Without going too much into details, arrows/bolts can bend or become unusable after hitting a target, but you can make your own easy enough. And it's silent.

I have weapon training, but being a student and in France that option is out of reach. Damn it. My mentor in Boston just got himself a new arsenal after all the protests going on over there.

Aside from other advice above, there is strength in numbers. Find a local chapter of the National Front or Generation Identity, tell them you love France, and see if they'll take you (not sure, since you're not of European heritage). Failing that, find other Asians and form a group (and then try to ally with the National Front or Generation Identity).

Pick a tribe, any tribe.

Stick to it.

Have a group of people you trust.

As I think Aristotle once said:

Quote:Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something that precedes the individual. Anyone who either cannot lead the common life or is so self-sufficient as not to need to, and therefore does not partake of society, is either a beast or a god..

In short - we work best in a group. Find one that suits you and plan accordingly.

A wise old mason who did a few tours in the middle east told me something I'll never forget:

"Now you can be a lone wolf, but you better be one bad motherfuckin' wolf."

Best wishes, Dalaran.

Despite Ray Mears being suspiciously chubby for a man who lives off grass and berries, we have to face facts- there's not a whole lot in the 'wilds' of the UK to eat. Sure, you can kill a deer. How many people are actually good enough to stalk to within crossbow range of a deer?

If the unrest happens in any month other than July, August and September the fields will be devoid of anything edible.

I plan to stay put locally- it's rural, I have a strong building with 2-foot thick walls and one metal door, plus lots of food and essentials. If I have to make a run for it it will be via motorcross bike.

I'm the sort of person you city folk will need to track down and kill for my supplies Laugh

Water Filtration > Water storage

Storing water is fine, but you can't do it forever.
Water trumps everything else in survival terms, as you can't live without it for many days, etc.
Having a good water filter will pay out in the long term, as its most likely you'll come into contact with water sources.
As others have pointed out: arm yourself, storable food, camping supplies, etc.

You should be filtering your water anyway, especially fluoride, but that's another topic.

On a side note antique Japanese swords are legal in France, aka Katana's and Wakasashi's etc...

As long as they are over 100 years old, they area legit Antique and very lethal.
