I don't think Europe is very friendly to gun rights, so get a solid pair of running shoes and don't skip the gym.

Edit: My buddy does a lot of prepper type stuff and we both agreed that if shit hit the fan this is the tool we'd carry around to kill squirrels. It's basically a slingshot crossbow. You can buy a collapsible carbon fiber arrow for it.

One of these days I hope to bring one fishing and shoot fish with it. With a little modification a guy could install a bowfishing reel to the whisker biscuit and it should work out no problem.

As a proof of concept I believe the guy who invented (or popularized) the slingbow is going to go hunting for bighorn sheep with it. It's pretty badass.

Lots of DIY guys have built these for like ten bucks with slingshot tubing from fleet farm, pvc pipe, hose clamps, and the like. No need to actually buy anything to own one of these.

Another related question but I don't wanna start a new thread.

EU is in deep shit. Remains to be seen after the Greece election but I doubt it's gonna get better. Would it still be a good idea to stay in Western Europe long term?

If I have to bail, would coming back to US on a student visa be a good idea? Or should I look further east to Russia and other EE countries? Haven't a clue what I would do there, but we men adapt.

Worst case I can come back to Vietnam.

I don't think it will be a problem there's no reason to overreact to these things.

So much of southern Europe is dead weight to the E.U. though. They would probably be much better off trimming away Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, etc.. All of those countries are going through serious debt crisis, high unemployment, their productivity and industry is also shit.

E.U. membership should be conditional even when you're a member state. If you're shit then you get demoted to "affiliate" until your country stops acting like a banana republic.

The EU is bound to fail. It is unnatural. When one member finds itself with enough strength to supplant the others (as Germany has) the others must rebel the remain sovereign. Failing this, the leaders of each nation must convince the citizens of opposing nations to surrender their rights to some international body. If Europe retains any notion of nationalism this is impossible, thus war is inevitable.

The failure of the EU is not just economic or industrial, it's cultural. There's a cultral clash between Protestants and Catholics. I can't wait to see Catholic Europeans revolt and tell self-righteous above-all Protestants, mostly Brits and Germans, to fuck off. No wonder most of the damage in PIGS countries was caused by Anglo-Saxon / American / Judeo-Protestant banks.

That said, if shit was to hit the fan, I'd settle in a region where there are pockets of resistance: Azores, Basque Country, Brittany, Corsica and Extremadura.

The failure is inevitable for many reasons, but the elephant in the room is that the concept of the Euro is unworkable at a fundamental level. What they tried to do was create a currency that hasn't ever been tried. Every previous currency issue in history was defined in part because it was tied to both government and private debt in the country that issued said currency, hence the printing that "this note is legal tender" on U.S. dollars.

By contrast the Euro attempted to create a currency that is not backed by any country's debt. It is essentially detached from all the drivers of a currency's value in most economies, and it introduces a huge level of systematic risk to the currency as risk in one country's economy is shared between all. It also has produced an extremely convoluted sovereign debt situation that would take literally an entire book to explain (due to the complexity of both the deals involved and the requirement to explain graduate-level finance concepts).

Bottom line is that the demise of the Euro as a currency is inevitable, and will most likely lead to the demise of the EU. The entire organization was an attempt to perform a stealth federalization of Europe, but expect them to fight tooth and nail because they know that the failure of the currency will lead to failure of the entire project......and expect them to cause a massive amount of damage in a desperate attempt to hold on to their power.

Well, I fucking hate to be right, and to have to dig up this old thread....

When I first posted this I didn't really believe it would get this bad in France.

After the truck attack last night, the message is clear that nowhere is safe anymore.

I've taken all your advice to heart, had kept vigilance and avoid going to crowded places, fortifying my place, and generally stopped going out at night.
Of course, the most sound decision right now that anyone would say, its to get the hell out of France while I still can, and get my ass back home.
But somehow I dont wanna leave. As I said back then, during the November tragedy, this is where things will happen. This is where it will go down and all will be decided. Part of me dont want to leave that sense of historical urgency.

But we all know this is not the time to be a hero. What is important is protecting yourself and your family.

Just ranting here, but I dont really know what I should do, or if there's anything I must do...

I think anarchy is coming man. Chits gonna go down sooner or later. There's too many things collapsing in society. You've got young men who are recluses. You have stupid ass politicians doing all they can to help the enemies. You have a very unstable global economy. Prices are sky high in the west for just about everything. How can my house that is council owned be worth 300k in the area I live in. Black gangsters murdered someone like 20 meters from my house the other day. There's a homeless immigrant heroine addict who lives at the river behind my house. You have a society that has been turned into robots by social media. Middle class wage stagnation, lower class wage stagnation, white flight, millions on Syrian refugees who haven't been vetted running loose over main land Europe, education system is crap and they'd rather teach kids about pc chit rather than inspire them and learn something to develop passions later on in life. The dating world is grim for the average man, whild immigrant ghettos appearing, politicians who don't listen and always break promises or do nothing and continue as everything is fine, male suicide rates at a very worrying rate, millions and millions of women on prescription drugs, depression at an all time high (might need stats on that one) . The list goes on and on.

Time to put operation second passport into action, Western Europe is on the brink. I'm not comfortable having all my ties and finances there. For all we know what happened in Cyprus could happen elsewhere and the government takes your hard earned savings away from you. Combine the weak economies with the terrorist attacks, increasing nationalism and generally unsettled population and it's only prudent to start taking precautions.

Combine the second passport with offshore banking in a stable country with a strong banking system and you can withstand anything. Throw in a little bitcoin and gold for good measure too.

Sorry if this has already been addressed. I can't figure out why people keep saying that you can't own guns in France. Sure, you can't carry them around, but sure as hell you can own them if you're willing to jump through a few hoops.

If you'd started the paperwork when you first started this thread you'd already be part of a sports shooting club with experience under your belt and most of the way to owning your first pistol. In fact, if you were willing to settle for a hunting based license you could have been armed months ago with a lever action 30/30.
