Scariest Movie You've Every Watched?
I'm a pretty big movie fan.
Every since I was a young kid, its been a past time to go out and watch movies.
Back when I was real young. I would spend time with my older cousins and watch horror movies.
I was traumatized after being forced to watch the Leprechaun movies ( Hey...that shits scary for kids)

Now..I feel like.. not only are horror movies not that great anymore.. but they just don't give me any fear.
Maybe a jump scare.. but thats all.

The last "horror/suspense" movie I watched was
As Above, So Below.

I liked it.. But it wasnt all that scary minus a couple odd scenese

The only movie that has scared me recently was the movie Sinister

It could have been a combination of me watching it late at night by myself in a empty house.

But I'm asking you all.
To recommend me some great scary movies that are actually up to date.

*I've got a chick in my circle that hates scary movies.. but wants to watch them with me also

For me it was The Exorcist. Maybe it's because I was five freaking years old in a theatre full of people tripping balls on acid.

RE: Scariest Movie You've Every Watched?
The miniseries Rose Red. I think it was mostly scary because I was watching it with my girlfriend and we kept freaking each other out. We were in my bedroom with the lights off and kept fighting each other over who had to have their back to the dark away from the TV. I watched part of it again a few years later and it wasn't nearly as scary.

Event Horizon is the other movie that comes to mind. It still freaks me out watching it alone in the dark even though I know what's going to happen.

A lot depends on the environment, and who I'm watching it with. If I'm watching a movie with the lights on with a group of people, I just won't get into it enough to get really freaked out. Watching a movie in the dark with a girl who keeps amplifying the suspense by stiffening up against me, grabbing my hand, etc, I'm going to get a lot more into the movie and be more affected by the suspense and surprises.

I'm just in the middle of watching Hannibal again after a few years, and it still makes my skin crawl in places. Same goes for Silence of the Lambs.

Agree on Event Horizon also.

Kidding aside, I still won't re-watch Event Horizon. Saw when I was 13 or so, it disturbed me.

Other than that, a movie called "The Strangers" was fucking intense as shit, although I haven't watched it since it was in theaters.

The Conjuring & Sinister are definitely one of the best scary movies that have been released recently.

I am a huge fan of scary movies and I have seen tons of them. Sadly mostly are just pure shit.

The Devil Inside had a good plot going on through most of the movie, but the ending was just pure shit.

Has anyone seen Insidious? Friends are raving about it, but I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet.

RE: Scariest Movie You've Every Watched?
Blair witch project is my favorite scary movie, I watched it a couple months ago and it still freaked me out. Fire in the sky has one scene that especially made my skin crawl. I tried watching the exorsist when I was about 11 or 12 but had to stop watching when the bitch went up the stairs upsise down, watched it all the way through a couple years ago and it was freaky but nothing that really made me frightened at any point. The conjuring was pretty good but not really scary. Ill have to watch event horizon, sounds good.

I really enjoyed both of them but they're more plot than scares. The second one has a little more scares though.

RE: Scariest Movie You've Every Watched?
I found 'The Shining', and 'Hellraiser' scary when I was a kid. Watched 'Sinister' a few weeks back. Didn't find it scary though. I watched 'Rose Red' a good few years ago, didn't find it scary, but had fucked up dreams for about a week after it, so it obviously played on my mind. I caught the last half of 'Event Horizon', and while it was pretty fucked up, it wasn't particularly scary, although I will reserve judgement until I've seen the whole movie.

I don't think I've seen a decent scary movie in my adult life. It's probably not so much because none are made, more that they don't get me to invest emotionally into them.

I watched both sinister and insidious.
Sinster was much scarier to me

Im gonna look up event horizon, considering more than 2 people have dropped the name
*The trailer for it doesn't look scary at all. But I like the classic actors.

Any of these movies great to watch with a chick in the middle of the night?

If you're watching a movie with her in the middle of the night, let's face it, that movie doesn't matter. Close and enjoy. Merry Christmas.

Woman in black was also pretty good.

the sequel looks like it might be pretty good too:

edit: Insidious chapter 3 looks like it's going to be good.

Another movie I enjoyed was Evil Dead:

RE: Scariest Movie You've Every Watched?
The first Alien (1979) film when i saw it as a kid. Just a classic mind fuck.

The first Exorcist flick a few years ago as well. More for the underlying dread & psychological poking than for any one particular scene.
Though the demon using the junior priest's guilt about his resentment for having to care for his mother against him hit home for me.

The original Japanese version of The Grudge (Ju-on) had it's effect on me for a number of nights, haha.

Haven't seen any current films that give me those lingering mental breakdowns like the ones i mentioned above. Maybe i need to source more.

Scariest opening to a horror film I saw as a kid--

John Carpenter's original The Fog. Three minutes that, to me at least, made the rest of the film denouement by comparison (albeit the ending of the film did freak me out.)

When I was small I thought Stephen King's Pet Sematary was freaky

as for newer movies the original Ring was badass as well:

The Babadook

This is a new one out of Australia that you guys will enjoy, not the scariest I've ever seen but it was good.

I remember seeing Blair Witch Project in HS right when it came out, before it was revealed fake. That was scary shit, even still after that those films are freaky.

RE: Scariest Movie You've Every Watched?
I liked Sinister and The Conjuring. The early parts of Insidious are good, and then it just goes completely to shit after that.

One that I watched recently and enjoyed was Banshee Chapter (2013).

Probably not for everyone, as it's lower budget and a little rough around the edges.

The plot deals with DMT, secret government experiments, and beings from other dimensions. I like that kind of stuff, so it was right up my alley. The story is also pretty unique and works in real events and video footage.

It's described as a "Lovecraftian" horror and Hunter S. Thompson is a character in the movie, so if you like either author, I'd recommend checking it out. It's on Netflix.

I was going to post the trailer, but I feel it gives away a little too much of the movie. Probably better to just go in blind, as I did.

Cookers is a great late night movie with a chick. It's not so much scary, as it is creepy.

I agree with the context being super important for scary movies. I watched Annabelle with some of my (dumber) friends but they played up the scary before and after so much that the doll still creeps me the fuck out.
