The only possibility I can see is this: he was too close to, or had a fucked-up relationship with, his mother (his father split when he was 15 and they'd moved maybe 20 times before then). When she started getting close to the end of her life, he may have started hitting drugs and/or alcohol a lot harder. That said, the hypothesis doesn't sound great even as I'm typing it.

A lot of famous people in music and Hollywood are pulling down way less than we think. When 50 Cent filed for bankruptcy I remember him saying a lot of his media image of being wealthy and balling was for show. I don't have the link but I read online that the guys in Slayer only pull about $200,000 each in a good year. Slayer. Iconic metal band with almost 40 years of high sales and a proven track record and they only pull 200k per dude.

Sure the market for metal is a bit niche these days but even recognizable actors playing support roles are only getting a fraction of what the headliners are making. Although I'm also pretty sure a young, amoral, emotionally disturbed starlet like Amber Heard has used her looks and sexual availability to game more industry men for money than just Johnny Depp.

It is quite common for people to think that this is bipolar disorder, but it is emphatically not.

Happy one minute, angry the next, flipping her shit over non-sense; these are in fact classic symptoms of borderline personality types.

In bipolar disorder people get episodes of persistently manic symptoms that last for a minimum of one week straight. The mood changes in bipolar disorder occur over weeks to months, not within a single day or couple days as is typical with borderlines.

90% of the time someone tells you they are bipolar the truth is that they simply have bordeline personality traits (whether it is the full personality disorder or not). This holds true even if they have been given the bipolar diagnosis by a doctor.
