I love Mexico City. Very underrated.

There is some stunning architecture and awesome history. Probably the best place for an American to learn Spanish. It is a less four hour flight from most of the US, I believe. Five hours from NYC nonstop.

People there love to party. The city is HUGE (I think still in the top ten or fifteen most populous metro areas worldwide). There is minimal tourism from the US, but Mexicans know a lot about US pop culture. Lots of people there had favorite American football teams (Los Vaqueros de Dallas, Los Packadores de Greenbay lol). I don't know if that is common or if I have a bias because the people I met wanted to talk about the US. They asked a lot about American Music and used American slang with me that they heard in rap songs haha

I did book my ticket yesterday for my local flight with interjet.

funny thing is when you put American language in the website they double the price haha. So my flight for Gudalajara to Cancun was 55 euros and for Cancun to Mexico City was 60 euros both direct flight.

So you better book in spanish rather than english.

So It will be :

Mexico city : 27 to 4 march (departure 4 march)

San Miguel De Allende :4 to 6 march (departure 6 march)

Guadalajara 6 to 10 March (departure 10)

Cancun/Playa del Carmen/Yukatan city 10/19 march

I will do my open dive license in Playa del carmen it s around 410 US Dollar (350 euros included everything).

Then back to Mexico city the 19 and leaving 21 at 10am (so 2 more days and one friday night in Mejico).

Maybe one day trip around the city on 20 march will see

Are you referring to Mexican-Americans(who would obviously blend into the local population)? I really didn't see virtually any obvious black or white Americans in DF.

Are you referring to Mexican-Americans(who would obviously blend into the local population)? I really didn't see virtually any obvious black or white Americans in DF.

I don't have the statistic in front of me right now, but I know I read something to the effect of what I posted before regarding Americans in D.F. Since D.F. is such a huge city, Americans may be a really small percentage of the overall population, which may be why you didn't see any. In terms of overall numbers, the American expat population is strong.

It seems like you're wanting to see the country more than stay in one place and game. In my opinion, San Miguel de Allende isn't worth more than a day. I'd just stay one night and then go on to Guanajuato, if I were you. Or, you could stay in Queretero for that extra night, but I prefer Guanajuato.

However, since you're going to Cancun, I think you should be heading south-east instead of west; there are plenty of awesome cities on the way and this direction you would get to experience the southern culture and cuisine in addition to the northern/central.

I would do DF > Cuernavaca > Puebla > Palenque > Campeche > Merida > Cancun. Keep in mind, this is more for tourism than gaming; the girls in Northern/Central Mexico are hotter.

Ha, tell me about it. I asked my brother who is getting married, along with his groomsman about the possibility of having the bachelor party in Mexico City. They almost shit their pants when I told them about it. My brother was like "there is no way you're taking me down there, I don't want to get fucking kidnapped and die" I just smh.

Yeah, I remember I was scared to go to Mexico for a while too. I remember I would ask questions to my cousins down there about kidnapping and if its safe, or if cartels are going to kill me. So much so, that they got really annoyed by it and it was almost insulting to them. One cousin stopped talking to me because he thought I was an arrogant, self entitled little bitch (his words exactly).

One girl cousin of mying told me "I'm more scared of going to Chicago and getting shot by a gang banger where you live"

Totally changed my perspective after that.

That's one of the things I dug about DF is that it's a city in Mexico for Mexicans. It strikes a good balance of things for tourists to do, while not being touristy at all. I didn't once have a people following me around trying to hawk t-shirts and get me to go on tours. It's just not like that. It's a real place that people live and do business. Even in places like Teotihuacan, while you had more gringos there, most the visitors seemed to be Mexicans themselves.

When I was last down there in 2013, my mom kept emailing me every other day to make sure I was alive, it's crazy how afraid Americans are of Mexico outside the beach resorts.

I think the illegal immigration thing is why most Americans have negative views of Mexico. They can't imagine that a place that millions are fleeing from can be cool to visit other than seeing the beach in an all inclusive resort where you're roped off from locals. I think many Americans have no idea that there's a lot of middle class as well as wealthy people that live pretty much the same as us up here. But you don't really see that unless you actually go down there.

How often are Americans even kidnapped there? American tourists are small fish for kidnappers. I think their real targets are wealthy Mexicans who they can actually extract serious money from. What are they going to get from some dirty backpacker staying in hostels?

To be honest, much of the country is like this. Places like Guanajuato, San Luis Potosi, La Huasteca, Merida, Aguascaliente, Zacatecas, Morelia, Puebla, Cuernavaca, Patzcuaro, and Manzanillo, among others, have literally no significant amount of gringos that go there but all offer rich culture and plenty of things to do.

Mexico is an actual goldmine of a country to travel in, but foreigners only scratch the surface of the country. Places like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, and Cabo San Lucas aren't even Mexican in my opinion, and if they weren't beautiful aesthetically they would be total shit holes.

I am amazed at how untouched most of Mexico is from foreigners despite being one of the top tourist destinations in the entire world. I am happy it's this way though because it means I get to go to fantastic places in Mexico and not have to deal with stupid tourists. I have been to over half of all Mexican states and for the most part, I never see any tourists.
