No way!

I did too a few days ago, came here to post it.

Great book which I would have never picked up had it not been for Mike. Don't let the self-helpishness turn you off. It's got great, actionable advice.

Gone Girl: This book reminds me of my girlfriend a lot. I loved the movie and loved the book more. The book is completely parallel to the movie, only more elaborate. It's a quick read, so it won't bore you. I recommend it to those who enjoyed the movie. Many anti-feminist points.

The Stanger by Albert Camus: This book depressed me a lot. The guy's life is perfect one minute and a dark abyss the next minute. I didn't get the point.

Brave New World: Excellent book. They should make a movie of this. The interesting is that it's supposed to be a dystopia, but to me it felt like an utopia. No sadness, pure happiness. I would like to live there.

Absolutely incredible. I'm glad I didn't read it when it came out, there are so many plot points that have yet to be resolved!

Tarr by Wyndham Lewis. Not sure it has anything to teach the player, but it is a more complete read from a redpilled perspective.

I think the 'Choose Yourself Guide to Wealth' may be even better. It's more focused on finance, but espouses many of the same points from the original 'Choose Yourself'.

Finished Stumbling on Hapiness by Daniel Gilbert.

An interesting book about our minds and what we think what makes us happy vs. the research showing that we actually aren't too sure what makes us happy and how we misguide ourselves and our futures.

Tons of research and studies provided demonstrating how the mind works.

We have similar taste. Cryptonomicon and Forever War are two of my favorites. I'd recommend Shantaram, if you haven't read it.

The Professor in the Cage by Jonathan Gottschall

Gottschall doesn't just go into fighting, but competition in the form of sports as well. I previously never thought too much of sports beyond a diversion. Rabid sports fans always seemed rather odd to me, but Gottschall has an intuitive explanation for all these sports rivalries and intense fandom.

The best part of the book (and what I was looking for) had to in the first 100 or so pages, which focuses on the setting of ritual combat, duels, pistols at dawn, and the like. I enjoyed his discussion on defending one's honor, male shit tests, and a fear of cowardice, rather than a fear of death in dueling.

I started looking for local MMA clubs around my school after finishing this book...

7/10 would read again.

The amount of books we go through here is outstanding.

I am hoping to organize a book club where guys on the forum get together and read a book a month together, so that we can begin to develop more of a common knowledge base and share the absolute best books we've read that deal with masculinity with each other.

Try to pop over and contribute anything you can here, especially absolutely timeless classics:

Aziz Ansari: Modern Romance

World Beyond Your Head

Get the Truth: Former CIA Officers Teach You How to Persuade Anyone to Tell All

Think Like a Freak: The Authors of Freakonomics Offer to Retrain Your Brain

So in addition to the books I read above.

In the last 3 weeks a finished a couple other books.

One Million Steps: A Marine Platoon at War
Quote:Battalion 3/5 suffered the highest number of casualties in the war in Afghanistan. This is the story of one platoon in that distinguished battalion.

Aware of U.S. plans to withdraw from the country, knowing their efforts were only a footprint in the sand, the fifty Marines of 3rd Platoon fought in Sangin, the most dangerous district in all of Afghanistan. So heavy were the casualties that the Secretary of Defense offered to pull the Marines out. Instead, they pushed forward. Each Marine in 3rd Platoon patrolled two and a half miles a day for six months—a total of one million steps—in search of a ghostlike enemy that struck without warning. Why did the Marines attack and attack, day after day?

Also
Knowing Who I Am: A Black Entrepreneur's Memoir of Struggle and Victory in the American South
Quote:Earl M. Middleton (b. 1919) has prospered in ways few African Americans have in the rural South. As owner of a successful business that cuts across racial lines and as a political leader in the cause of civil rights, Middleton has garnered hard-won recognition for his efforts from blacks and whites alike. His life story is at once illustrative of dynamic developments in southern race relations over the past eight decades and inspirational in telling how one individual capitalized on those changes to perpetuate a family legacy of entrepreneurship and service in his community.A World War II veteran, Middleton trained as a Tuskegee Airman in 1942 and then served as an infantry soldier in the Pacific theater. Returning to Orangeburg in 1946, he became a barber and then a restaurant owner before finding his true vocation in real-estate. What is now one of the region's most profitable real estate firms began as a sideline in the back of a barbershop, but Middleton quickly developed a reputation for superior knowledge and inclusive definitions of community that allowed him to succeed. As a civil rights activist in the 1950s and 1960s, Middleton witnessed firsthand the bravery of Orangeburg's citizens. His wife, then the head of South Carolina State's library science department, was jailed for joining a student protest. From these experiences Middleton developed an unconquerable forbearance that complemented his unshakable belief in equality. In 1974, he was elected to the South Carolina General Assembly, where he served for a decade. There he was a founding member of the Legislative Black Caucus and an influential voice on the U.S. Civil Rights Commission. Today Middleton is still active in the daily operations of the real-estate business he founded and the agency continues to expand with racially diverse agents serving equally diverse populations

Most people will probably brush over this book because they think it about a black person and the narrative wont fit them.

I have this book to two white guys that I work with and they loved the book.
Its less about the plight of a black man in the south and more about how great conservative family values were instilled upon a man to put in hard work and hustle his way to the stop.

If every family raised their children the way Mr Middleton's parents raise him... and how he raised his children....The country would be a better place over all

I had a lot of free time this month. The books came out to about 1700 pages

30 bangs - Roosh

Really easy to read since it's broken up into 30 short essays. Definitely some solid lines in there that I made a note to start using in my own interactions. Also enjoyed the dry humorous observations on the women and the various bar scenes they were found in.

Read Vox Day's "SJW's Always Lie". Solid and accessable text that addresses something I'm sure a lot of sense could happen to us (an SJW-led witch hunt over badthink). Also, without relating the story, his examples of a wtich hunt fit Montreal and Toronto to the letter.

Over last 2 weeks I have been on a vacation so I managed to read a few books:

The Professor, The Banker and The Suicide King - 10/10 book. About private poker games organized by Andy Beal. Lot of life lessons in there even if you are not into Poker.

Nine Things That Successful People Do Differently. Excellent, concise and to the point.

Layer Cake. The book is way better than the movie.
Viva La Madness. Sequel to Layer cake and another amazing novel.

Money and Power. Story of Goldman Sachs. Amazing book with lot of business lessons. Highly recommended if you are into corporate/banking stuff.
