Ah this is a good thread. It's great to reflect sometimes on how far you've come. I'm lucky that I never got married or did anything that left permanent damage, but I have two examples that come to mind.

1) "Completely and utterly game illiterate" might describe this one better than "beta". This happened after I spent over 4 years in a committed relationship with one girl (long story short, we agreed to try an open relationship, broke up, still hooked up, and then #2 happened). Needless to say, I had no clue how to deal with girls after being loyal for that many years and literally avoiding all unnecessary female interaction.

I took a weekend flight to visit one of my close friends at a well-known party college. He was busy studying the first night and couldn't take me out, so I hit up the one other person I knew there - a girl who I was friends with in high school, but had lost consistent contact with ever since I'd gotten into a relationship. I had always thought she was ridiculously hot, but I'd always been caught in the friend zone (ie: giving her advice on guys, etc) and never bothered to try to get out. She responded happily and agreed to take me out. I meet her outside of a house party, and we went in. Over the next few hours, she gave me more clues than I could possibly handle. She called me "babe" and "hun" every few sentences. She held me by the hand the entire night, and the one time I left her for 5 mins to check out the dance floor, she blew up my phone. When we sat on a couch, she moved as close as she could near me even though the whole couch was available. That's not even the worst of it. I was standing with her in line to the bathroom, and when the door opened, she walks in and waves for me to come inside with her (this was a single-person bathroom). I looked at her, very confused, and said, "Huh? I don't want to see you piss".

At one point, I started finally thinking, "Hmm... maybe she actually does want to hook up with me?", so I offered to walk her home and hoped to weasel my way into her place. She refused to let me, and made me walk with her to where I was staying. We stood outside for 5 minutes, but I never invited her in, thinking that I had blown my chance since she didn't let me walk her to her place. Only afterwards did I realize - she lived at a fucking sorority house, and on weekend nights there is a "house mom" that stands at the entrance and doesn't allow any guys inside; I would've needed to scale several stories to get into her place. All I had to say was "come inside" when we were standing outside of my place, and I'm 99% certain that I would've banged her. She got a boyfriend several weeks later, and I've seen her a few times since, but never had another opportunity. One day it'll come, and at least I'll know what to do.

2) When I moved back to my home city after college last year, I had no idea how to approach girls at any setting besides a house party, and my social circle was pretty fragmented. So, I began to spend more time with the girl that I had dated for all of those years. One of the first weekends was Valentine's Day, and I offered to take her to dinner. She reacted lukewarm at first (I was a little surprised but it didn't register in my mind) but agreed to come. We went to a nice restaurant, where it was $75/person, and we also split a bottle of wine - total bill came to $250 and I paid the entire thing. We drove home to my parent's basement, had sex, and were getting ready to sleep. I went to the bathroom, and come back to her on her phone texting, at 3:30am. Confused, I say, "who would you be texting at this hour?". She answers with the worst possible excuse - "My friends stay up late!" This was when I first became suspicious of something going on, but needless to say, I just laughed and went to cuddle up with her. A few weeks later, I found out that she was fucking a broke 40 year old guy on a regular basis (we were both 22), who was the person that she was texting. That situation (which I could probably write a book about) brought me to the forum. To clarify, we were not in a committed relationship at this time, and she did not cheat on me. However, in my head, she was only fucking me. Paying for a $250 Valentine's Day dinner for a girl who is busy fucking a guy like that is pretty damn beta. Never again.

So... This last college semester was particularly rough. I tried to get closer to her (read: as in lean in for a kiss or hug) but she was insisting that I give her space (which I did, looking back on it correctly).

Immediately after leaving my room she heads over to a guy that lives near to me, opened his door, closed it, and... you can imagine what happened. There were (really arrogant and almost stereotypical) sports player guys outside my room.. As soon as she walked out they were shouting at me like "WHY DIDN'T YOU BANG YOU FUCKING IDIOT?!?"... I didn't hear the end of it for weeks.

Although it was a kinda beta moment (I should've paid more attention and known when to initiate, when not to, how to build up interest etc...), she reaffirmed that I just had to be myself when talking to girls and that I'm valued. I think that, in the heat of the moment, wasn't better than a bang but it was enough to get me out of my depression. I involuntarily went weeks without indepth human interaction (outside of classes and work obviously) because nobody would really talk to me. I'm not a big fan of small talk so maybe that's why and I have some friends... it's just I didn't see many people or talk to many people on a day-to-day type of basis so I felt kind of like I couldn't reach out to anyone.

Nobody at my university seemed interested in anyone who isn't on a sports team and you have to be at a professional level for that kind of thing, so I've heard. I agree with this. My approach to game (both writing and video) is to take it kind of like general life advice... only, this advice is focused more on making you better with talking to women/people in general (same skills different method) than making you rich.

This girl I dated briefly (like, 2-3 weeks) in HS was the worst cocktease I ever met.
