I think it would be worthwhile to have a thread with ideas for accessories to get a more edgy, "bad boy", less "boring" look. I know there is a thread for accessories already but that one is more upscale (high end watches, pocket squares, etc). Tattoos and piercings are a bridge too far for me so what does that leave? Sunglasses, neck-lasses, chains, scarves, rings, and bracelets? I'm talking about stuff you don't really wear with a suit.

The only "edgy" accessories I have are my lack of socks. I very rarely wear socks.

It's called "go to hell ankles." Google it to get the look I go for. Not wearing socks conveys "I don't give a fuck." Pairing that with some nice cloths...is the best look a man can have.

I think too many "accessories" yell "tryhard" to me. The only accessory you'll see me wearing is my watch. I also don't wear hats...because my hair game is always on point. But that's just me.

On a more serious note: cool boots, black jeans and leather jackets (if you can pull it off, most guys I see wearing them can't) would do the trick. Cool/colourful socks help a lot too. Trying to dress "bad boy" or "edgy" is destined to fail if you don't have the personality underneath to back it up. I agree with redbeard on wearing too many accessories, it looks tryhard and communicates a lack of social awareness. I don't wear any accessories at all unless you count my "cool" socks, if I'm not wearing them I just go sockless (Australian summers), life's too short to wear boring socks.

The key changing your style or dressing better in general is to buy new pieces slowly so you have time to grow accustomed to them and get feedback from people. If you go out tomorrow and buy a wardrobe full of "edgy" clothes you're going to feel like you're in a clown costume, and other people will feel that energy coming from you. Baby steps. If you "peacock" keep it subtle (i.e a cool pair of socks or shoes), how dope your outfit is should be the "peacock" itself, not some stupid accessory or a fuzzy hat.

-Belts (underrated I think as they can be worn with anything) there are some belts that have much more edge than a standard dull black one. You can also get away with belt flair sort of like pocket square and sock flair

If you are younger (likely under 35 unless you are very artistic):
-Graphic/logo shirts and tank tops often times with images of art, weaponry, something provocative

Things you need to be more careful with:
-Necklaces can work, has to be congruent with your persona
-A ring, maybe 2 total depending on the ring (usually would opt for a bolder, fatter ring than a dinky small feminine one). Think pimpin, but not cheesy. Should look well-made and expensive, these can cost you. I looked into it and it seems like a $200-300 to customize a pimp-ass ring with an inexpensive but cool stone in it. The skull rings and stuff like that is bad taste imo.
-Bracelet(s) - again has to be congruent. The multiple bracelet thing can look cool and artistic, but for me it is too much work.

You can go much crazier on these last three if you do live music shows or have legit art you produce that is decent and you are passionate. Chicks may shit test you and if you are legit shit test is passed with flying colors and they get wet.

I go with a sterling silver tiny bead military style chain (shines brightly around my neck line) under my shirt with a religious art trinket that chicks ask about. I also wear a flashy fake Rolex. Not always but I do get questions about them on dates so they must be noticeable. I would want to expand my watch collection.

A scarf may not be bad ass, but perhaps a shemagh would be during winter months. A lot of the special forces wear them when in desert territories, but they can also be quite warm, and many preppers/every day carry types swear by them, as they can be used for dozens of purposes.

I'm not suggesting you wear it like some Taliban freedom fighter, but more like a scarf or neck accessory. I.E.

I see a lot of douchy guys wearing shemaghs like a scarf. That being said, I often wear them in the winter and prefer them over balaclavas.

If you wear it properly it's a versatile piece of clothing. My philosophy for clothing is that function is masculine fashion.

As far as trying to look like a bad boy, dude, you are a bad boy. If you think an item, like a piece of jewelry or or a leather wrist band (not like the breakfast club guy tho) fits your style and you rock that shit with confidence it makes it cool.

Be a trendsetter rather than "trendy".

Watch some classic films from the 60s and notice how they dress maybe.

Oh, and as far as rings go, I personally won't wear one unless it really meant something like a foreign legion ring, a really cool alma mater, the skull and bones society, free masons, etc.

The problem with "edgy accessories" is that it's wear and tear that make the look. Most of us who have spent time hanging around people who actually are edgy know pretty quickly how to spot the posers and the fakes. It's all about congruity: the posers look like they're trying too hard, and they don't have the body language to back it up. If you want to actually look edgy there's two things that will go further than any clothes:

1) Look rough physically. There's relatively few pudgy people in "edgy" circles. Although there are a ton of fat bikers out there, they all look a bit more weathered than the hipsters do. It's the kind of look you can only get with a lot of time spent outdoors working on heavy equipment or moving heavy items around.

2) Confidence. You need to have the attitude that you don't particularly care about anyone else's attitude. They're not a threat to you, and any noise they make is nothing more than flies on the lion's ass.


other than that don't try too hard to be "edgy". Wear actual riding gear, not stuff made for style.

What most people dont' understand is that the "biker" look is mostly practical. The heavy boots protect your foot and ankles from falls, hot mechanical parts, rain, and cold. The leather vest or jacket has lots of pockets to carry tools (and weapons) in, protects against road rash in the event of an accident, and the black space on it can be used to hold patches which are meaningful to the wearer. The wallet chain prevents you from losing it if it slips out while you're riding, and the gloves also are an important protective item. For the shades...I DARE you to ride over 40 without a good set of eye protection.

Once you know why every part of the biker's outfit is important it's not hard to spot posers....even if you don't know what to look for they invariably just seem incongruous.


Bottom line: don't try to dress hard unless you are hard.



If you're going for more of a rocker/artist look (the kind of guy who's a good fuck but not good for dating), Travesty gives some fairly good advice. It's generally one of those things where if you are the kind of person who can pull it off you already know how to do it. If not, your best bet is to stay conservative and observe until you do know.

I suppose I'd fit the description. I'll just outline what I wear as I really don't dress to a look, I just like the result.
1 weathered man, no heavy lifting here I was just I'll for a long period of time.
1 of any shirt and generic colored fleece over it. Like red myself
1 denim vest/jacket. Few band patches, whatever appeals to you. Have pockets for Bluetooth speaker, edgy men don't use headphones.
1 black jeans of correct size
1 Brooks Brothers red belt, was on sale
2 Vivobarefoot winterized/waterproof boots. I hike, this state is too cheap for bridges on most rivers.
1 hat, generic wool or etsy special. I imported some bananas from Russia I liked the look of
1 necklace, I wear a pentagram because I actually like that shit. Doubt it does me any favors, get something else
1 eyepatch/singlesided glasses. I need em for vision correction, occluder contact is in the works.

So in conclusion, it's about you and your willingness to make an outfit out of whatever mix of stuff you like. Mixes you won't see in catalogs with sufficient functional use. Or just be functional without throwing style to the wolves.
