Making a pretty big jump this year to up my accessory game.

Didn't see anything dedicated purely to accessories so I'll go ahead and get it started:

Links: I'm liking these. Thinking about picking them up would pair with a white t-shirt and pink tie, light blue square think it would look great on a grey jacket.

Another idea is the tie bar, this one is out of my range for a silly tie bar but looks sweet. Guys know of a similar version closer to the $100 mark?

Finally, what do you guys think of vests? I going to start rocking one in 2014 for testing purposes, back matched to the linen of the suit of course.

Pocket square should match your tie. The only exception is a white pocket square.

Vests look great all the time, better if you can sport a slim fit look, which IIRC you can.

A pocket square doesn't need to match your tie at all.

WC, check out the blog on trashness.com. tons of photos and they rock a lot of accessories and suits. I think you'll get some good inspiration there.

I like cufflinks, but I think the tie bar is a bad idea, especially if you're wearing it the way it's supposed to be worn.

I've only ever known one guy who wore a tie bar, and he wore it infrequently and was not someone you'd want to emulate.

So, glasses.... I need to wear them, but when I go out I put in contacts. I have several pair, a lot of thick black frames and thin frame for work. I think the thick frames make a cool look, but for going out, hitting clubs, etc, I think its best to go without them. First dates I usually ditch them. Would like to hear if anyone disagrees about going out in them, to clubs, game, etc, i.e. thick plastic black frames.

I am very opposed to tie bars or tie tacks-they make a man look like someone who is trying too hard to be neat. I mostly see rubes wearing them

Yeah I hate it when the tie matches the square.

I think he tie bar is great if it is stylish looking, now an then, just looking for cool ideas.

Really wanted to write "men's jewlery" as the title sure messed that one up.

No rules with Pocket Squares, however, I never match it with ties.

Matching the shirt can be real dope ie Scarface, Deniro in Casino etc.





(I have a jacket very similar to that one Deniro is rocking. Great for The Del Mar Racetrack and events of that stature).

But un-matching is smooth as hell.

I hate tie-bars but I think that is because I have this rival that wears tie-bars and I can't stand him.

To me, they are just extra hassle.

If you have a sick Suit/Shirt, dope Square, and fly Shoes, anything more is overkill in my opinion.

I try to make it look effortless. Tie-bar is too studied for my overall vibe. But Westcoast is a finance guy, so that might work great for him.

But again, that is just one Man's opinion.

It is important to develop one's personal style and not bite another Man's steelo.

^ so the reason why I am asking is because I never see people wearing cuffs and tie bars. Naturally if no one is wearing them I assume it's the right move.

I will also experiment with some bow ties this year.

As a note so far the most important accessory has been the pocket square. Everything else comes second.

Notably, if you have a loud bow tie and square then the bowtie gets mentioned more (only a few wears need more nights out to confirm)

Yeah, can't argue with the "contrarian theory".

To me, a dope Suit/shirt/Square/Shoes (the 4 S's) is contrarian enough in this world we live in.

But hell, try the tie bar and see if it works.

I would bet that it probably does.

The other reason I don't like them is it is just more crap to worry about.

Girls ripping off your clothes, tie-bar shoots across the room, gets lost, flies off the balcony, etc...$1500 down the tubes...

I got a sick pair as a gift, didn't realize a pair of links can cost $500+ but I think a double sided link should look pretty good on light colors.

The knots cuff links are cheap and should never be worn, buy a pair of silver cuff links and add to the collection over time.
Tie bars I can't stand, might be alright for Don Draper but chances are you don't live in the fifties.
Accessories I like are a good watch, one you can pass down.
I don't wear one but I do like pinkie rings, or a nice silver ring. David Yurman makes some nice silver pieces.

Hmm
- neck ties - since it's cold, fabrics other than silk. wool, wool flannel,
- bow ties - sparingly at first
- vests - by themselves - not me. As part of a 3 piece suit, hell yeah
- silk knots - they aren't *the* business, but I like them. You can also do silk squares, silk barrels, and silk flowers.
- hard cuff links - Cuff links are easy to lose, so I wouldn't spend a grip on them, unless you've got it like that. i like simple sterling silver squares, but these are my favorites, and i've Never ever received any compliments about them. I wear them for me, reminds me of Venice, a reallygood time in my life

- pocket squares - American style - white, presidential fold. 40's style - white, folded into a design. Italian style - linen or silk, done flamboyantly.

my fave is British style. Anything silk, and just kinda stuffed into your pocket as an after thought.

Tie Bars - I like the ones @ http://www.tiebar.com I don't like wearing ties for going out, but I do wear them for work.

Other moves
- harley/chain wallet - depending on your steez, but this can look very Neapolitan if done right
- rings, necklaces with charms, bracelets, chains, earrings - I don't fuck with jewelry, most men don't, but it's a very easy way to draw female attention to yourself.

@peregrine, I like the look, but it's too dandy for me on most situations.

On the style forum, the word is costume-y. It's a personal decision as to whether you merely dress with style, dress fashionably, or become a character. Aside from the money aspect, there are costs to each approach.

With just plain style, all you need to do is understand the basics. Just wearing something that fits your body is jumping out ahead of most men. Throw in color and fabric coordination, sense of season, and knowing how to shop, you're getting to top.

Fashionable guys, the ones who know labels and designers, might not know style in a classic sense, but they are playing a different game. A modern look attracts a particular kind of girl. But maintaining that look requires money and continual effort.

Becoming a character may be cheaper and require less money and effort, but not every chick is gonna like your 60's mod style. But it does give you the tribe effect.

I'm pretty into rocking bling, got the diamond stud earring, Italian gold chain, and Omega Sea Master Planet ocean. Of all of those the Omega is by far my favorite and most versatile "accessory", the chain I dig, but only rock on a rare occasion with the right outfit.

I've been very tempted to purchase this David Yurman ring and came close to once, but it was too big when I tried it on, and I didn't have the time to have it "sized". I have pretty much rationalized that it's too much money to spend after already dropping mad loot on the Omega, but if 2014 ends up being a good year some how I may treat myself. Shitty thing is though, I've had my eye on it for about 4 years now and the prices goes up every year, although this year they slightly changed the style and it looks doper than ever.

So far no reaction on the tie bar. Not really any downside either.

Picked up new cuffs and have a custom suit in the mail.

I get the feeling the suit + square is all you really need. Overkill with the tie + tie bar
