That sounds like manipulation or a very dependent person. You don't want either of these.

Instead of trying to find another solution to how you played it, rely on what your gut feeling probably was at the time and be at peace with it. I have the feeling that you're concerned over feeling bad about this. That the society fed, moral guilt trip you're putting yourself though

guess what.. it all depends.
i personally would just listen cheer her up tell her things will work out with time and probably change topic after a while. and it would be alright. why? because it depends on how the girl sees you. if she's attracted and all you can be her friend she will appreciate it really well. if you're random guy she happened to bang it might get you into let's be friends category. get it?

it's not what you do per se. it's about who you are [to her]. that's the principle.

It's an involuntary response, but I laugh whenever I see a woman crying--especially if it's a blubbering type of cry.

I suggest you make fun of her and taunt her, gently, if it's something you deem to be actually serious. It's what I do as a matter of instinct and it's never failed me.
