$7 appetizers?

Are you buying your dates cheese curds at a bowling alley?

Every girl who, from my experience, wanted appetizers was expecting some fairly pricey dish. $10 to $20 for bar food is a lot when you're also paying for drinks (and possibly cab fare).

Secondly, money isn't the issue. Principle is. I offered to pay for drinks and entertain you, that alone is generous enough.

Lastly, girls who end up ordering food usually are more reluctant to put out. I've gone on about 20 dates with different women in the past 60 days. The ones who insisted on appetizers or food almost always took longer to get with. They want to see how much free stuff they can get out of you first.

Idk man it's rather insulting to call the guys who are against apps broke, low income, 30K millionaires.

Like I said before I've only ran into this two times in the last year, girls usually know what's up if you're meeting for drinks and isn't thinking about eating.

Like others said, this is about the principal, not the cash.

It DOESN'T mean you can't buy an appetizer (if you're hungry or want her to try something).

If one is so worried about having to pay for apps or lose frame, control your logistics and frame better.

Logistics: Go to bars that don't have a kitchen, or venues with no local food places.

Frame: Pre-empt any attempt for appetizers, mention having a beer/drink is the perfect way to wash down what you ate earlier. Say how it's weird people do dinner on first dates. The list goes on.

For drink dates - it's used a 'filtering process' nothing more nothing less. Before the meet up I've primed her with that although I can be spontaneous (a word I like to use with a sexual connotation), I lead a pretty structured lifestyle (eating habits, schedule, business) If it's an after dinner time meet up, it's implied she would have eaten anyway.

Problem is - the longer we stay at this place the stronger the likelihood that any "heat" subsides, distractions happen or she gets that phone call that grandma broke her hip falling down a flight of stairs etc

Couple things:

1) In my experience, if she is going through the trouble of purposely ordering an appetizer on such a date, then she plans on being there awhile
2) If you are on a mission, you don't want her to consume anything that will soak up that 'act right' juice

Oh, good lord, you "anti food" ideologues are really overstating the case here, with all this "muh frame!" and high minded "principal of the thing" talk.

The idea that a girl isn't going to respect you or bang you quickly because you bought her a little food is just ludicrous and doesn't fit with my experience at all.

Appetizers are grazing behaviour. Two observations of female eating: chicks indulge to excess when they're emotionally-upset but graze when they're trying to distract themselves from their boredom. Do you want to risk that subconscious association when you're trying to build intimacy?

On a date, she's subconsciously using a plate of food as both a protective barrier and a distraction from you to not give you her full attention.

If I'm meeting a girl for the first time (i.e. a girl from online), I almost always pay cash and subtly set the tone that we're buying our own drinks. Interestingly, it's these dates that usually lead to same-night hookups. I don't mind buying drinks every now and then, but I typically only do it if the girl is giving off a cool vibe. In fact, when I do offer to buy drinks, more often than not the girl insists on getting the next round, which is always a good sign. As for the appetizers, most chicks I meet up with don't go for them, although I also tend to select hipster dive bars for first dates which tend not to have food.

I just want to say that food is a big part of my game. I like to sexualize the process of cooking and eating. It can be a very sensual experience if it's done with class and with "game" in mind.

I often "bait" college girls with food. Dorm food sucks!

But what we are losing sight of here is that the "no appetizer" advice was meant to be narrowly tailored to a very specific situation. It is not meant to be universal mandate to cover all situations in Heaven and Earth.

The OP (The Wire) in his original post was presenting a very specific question to a very specific situation. The "No Appetizer" mindset is a guideline for the following conditions:

1. First date
2. American chick

That's all we're saying.

Foreign women? Do what you want.

Steady lizard you like and has proven her worth? Do what you want.

Chick you've already pronged? Do what you want.

This "No Appetizer" rule is narrowly tailored for a specific situation. That's it.

It's meant to be a guideline for situations (all too common) when some spoiled Americhick tries to probe you and shit-test you. That's it. All rules have exceptions. But my own experience has taught me to be very attuned to subtle attempts by American girls to test your willpower.

And if you read The Wire's original post, it worked for him. Saying no worked. She tried to insert a buffer between them, and he deflected it. My answer would be the same whether that buffer was a cell phone, a plate of fried shit, or a tangle of calamari in Sriracha sauce.

A lot of this stuff, as you know well, comes down to the "feel" of the situation.

OP is going defensive. First he said "I'm kind of curious if other guys run into the food issue or am I playing this out wrong? Chick tried to pull this shit on me about a month ago (au pair from Mexico in her early 20's). It was clearly a "drink date" and we planned to meet up after 9 pm. She claimed to have not eaten dinner.

Thankfully, the kitchen at the establishment was closed. I just made fun of her about it all night and held frame (I teased with stuff like, "Who eats dinner this late? Oh, the kitchen is closed? They must hate you here."). The teasing became an ongoing gag- she would giggle and touch me. One of the servers she playfully harassed about the kitchen being closed brought out some complimentary chips ('pity chips' as I'd like to refer to them) at the end of the evening. @QC: Gio was actually dead on point. Regardless of the position of the OP, this thread now has a Team No Appetizers which basically boils down to this position: Stop. Feeding. These. Hoes. You not only hurt yourself. You hurt all of us. With every girl getting free meals (because, let's face it, an appetizer or two is a meal for the type of chicks we're going out with), we raise the cover charge of a basic (pre-bang) first date.

I really don't think Team No Appetizer represents the extreme narrow position you say that it does in response to Gio's post.
