The current version of the video on her website now has the date blurred out. The original version had a date stamp of when her "rape" took place in 2012. Apparently she told buzzfeed.com there was a DDoS attack on her "art" project website.

It could happen if the video is hosted on another server - like having an embedded youtube video on a website. If YT is hit, your site doesn't go down, but the video is unavailable.

Emma Sulkowicz´s goal was all along to launch herself into the porn industry.

First she had to get attention, so she attention-whored herself with the mattress and got on the first page of the newspapers and magazines.

Now finally she is launching her career, with what she wanted to do all along from the beginning.

Why would anyone want to sabotage her site?

It's more likely that hundreds of thousands of men worldwide wanted to see her porn and crashed part of her site. You do not have to stage any such attack if you go viral. Small sites can crash if they become too popular. If she had posted and linked the video to Youporn, it could have easily dealt with the traffic overload.

We need to respect her personhood, and not contribute to the further DDOS-ing by denying that she was DDOSed.
