Personally I'm a huge fan of the Gothic Horror genre. Always have been always will be, and so I decided to start a thread about it and in general any suggestions for what to read. A bit cliche but I'm a huge fan of Bram Stoker, and The Jewel of Seven Stars as well as Dracula are personal favorites of mine. So RVF members any suggestions?

Lovecraft more or less pioneered Science Fiction, but I do agree Lovecraft is great. Poe is just more Gothic poetry. I have enjoyed his work, but I'm looking for novels here.

Hmm, alright. Most of what I know regarding horror fiction is generally contained within short stories. Thomas Ligotti is pretty good.

A predecessor of Stoker is Le Fanu, you should check out Uncle Silas.

There's a lot of HPL work where he's struggling to find a way to convey monstrosity.
He uses words like "unknowable" which is, you know, not very descriptive. But I digress, he has some gems.
Curious readers should try out "The Nameless City" and "Dagon"...They are quick reads and will give you a good idea what to expect.

For something a little more recent than Poe and Lovecraft, Graham Masterton does some good work bordering on the Gothic: Family Portrait (basically a modern take on The Picture of Dorian Grey), The House That Jack Built (haunted house) and Walkers (insane asylum) are all examples. Not typically Gothic but they have many of the same tropes.

Also a dude called Brom is doing a nice job updating fairy tales and myths in a gritty contemporary setting: Krampus (the 'real' Santa Claus) and The Child Thief (Peter Pan)

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill (son of Stephen King, I believe) also has many Gothic tropes (isolated house, ill-fated romance) and should appeal to RooshV'ers.

Of course, there is also the seminal classic Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Frankenstein was a good read. The ending in my opinion was a superb twist.
