Building a better alpha
After taking the red pill and coming unplugged my life has definitely improved. I eat healthier, workout ( I'm on track to be pretty cut for this summer), got my borderline-alcoholic-drinking-ways under control, improved my fashion, and generally feel better now since I'm no longer engaging in societies double think (i.e. "knowing" girls want nice guys (because that's what they all say they want, right?), but also well aware of the fact that assholes were getting all the tang). However, I'm still not getting the notches. My progress is definitely somewhere between being a full beta-bitch and an alpha but I kind of hit a rut by becoming the "caring asshole" type. When it comes to the ladies (and social situations in general) I'm either stiff/quiet, spiteful (the caring asshole), or kind of dweeb-ish (trying to be aloof/funny/playful but failing hard). I think my problem stems from (1) my resentment towards women for being their emotional tampon during high school and college (I found out about the red pill shortly after graduating, fuck) and (2) not ever wanting to be a maxi-pad again.

Is this normal? I've read the CH articles about the caring vs uncaring asshole distinctions but I'm having a hard time making the transition. Working out and nofapping hasn't made things "fall into place" like I thought it would, so if anyone has any other advice/tips that would be great!

Also, It's been a few months since unplugging.

I think you are trying to be something you are not too quickly, there will be too many things that aren't congruent. What you should do is start with teasing girls a lot. Don't be afraid to make fun of her whenever you get a chance, but don't overdo it. The best asshole game is push pull, but you are trying to transition too quickly into something that doesn't work on all girls. Like I said I would just focus on teasing for now. The uncaring part comes from being aloof and it will come naturally when you start dating a lot of girls at once.

^^^Good stuff right here.

My 2 cents:

Game is an art. No one sits down and just farts out master pieces and best sellers (except maybe McQueen). It's just something you have to do. Reading theory and talking it out is awesome, but you won't et anywhere until you put it into practice. And then? Well then you still won't get anywhere. You have to just dive in and feel out what works for you. Think of roosh, elmech, mcqueen, all the hard hitters as general advice, then build off of that. The only way to build your game is to approach and close. If she flakes or rejects you, next her. Abundance mentality will keep you sane. That special hot chick at Starbucks is a lie. She's a mirror of the slut at everyother Starbucks getting tag teamed by half the forum. Most important, build yourself up. This is about you, nothing else. Live life for yourself and focus on making yourself better and happier.

Tl;dr- trial and error. Also some motivational crap at the end.
