And then you got your Korean rich bitches flying through traffic in a Lincoln Navigator who can't see shit in their peripheral vision so they can't even stay in their goddamn lanes. They're the reason I stopped riding my bike to work, at least when I lived in Koreatown.

And then you get your...ah shit thread derail.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I've been watching the old TV show "Lou Grant," which was a first-rate drama about a newspaper reporters and editors. It covered a lot of topical issues of its day.

On Feb. 5, 1979, they broadcast an episode called "Sweep" about illegals. If you go to the 25 minute and 44 minute marks, they're having a debate that's almost identical to some of the ones on this thread: big business wants cheap labor, who was here first.

This was 35 years ago. I suspect 35 years from now people will be arguing about the same things.

RE: Coca Cola Superbowl Ad Causing Controversy
I think very few people actually hate immigrants or people of other races or ethnicities. Most people just prefer to live in racially homogenous areas surrounding by people who look, speak and behave like themselves. Every race and ethnicity has this preference, although there is also a tendency for non-whites to leave their ethnic enclaves and seek out the safety and prosperity of white neighborhoods if they have the means to do so. However, the reverse is not true. Non-whites are quick to see the advantages of living among whites, but whites almost never prefer to live among non-whites. On a micro-scale, this means that as white neighborhoods gradually gain color, white flight begins to increase, accelerating the coloring trend of the demographics. On a macro-scale, this preference of non-whites for colonizing white areas is seen in immigration, both legal and illegal. You don't see Mexico complaining about the flood of Americans across its border, Muslim countries complaining about hordes of European immigrants, or Australians launching boats for greener pastures. It's always the opposite. The flow of immigration is always non-whites into wealthy white countries. And obviously this is logical. Why wouldn't they want to come here? The point is: why should we let them? What do we gain from it? If these people can't build their own prosperous societies, why do we want them in ours?

If I were black I would want to be around other black people, if I were Mexican I would want to be around Mexican people, if I were Chinese I would want to be around Chinese people. I'm white so I prefer to be around white people. Is that racist? I really don't care. Because the vast majority of people agree with that sentiment, and if they say otherwise they're lying. I wonder what percentage of the liberal whites and Jews working at progressive think tanks in DC live outside of NW or the suburbs? Somehow I doubt the vast majority of them extend the love of diversity they champion as public policy into their personal lives. Total hypocrites.

RE: Coca Cola Superbowl Ad Causing Controversy
White people love moving into urban areas. It's called "gentrification" and it's been a nationwide phenomenon for quite some time. U Street, H St, the "majority" of white people live in majority-black or multi-ethnic and multi-racial neighborhoods in DC. Same is true for plenty of other cities (NYC, LA, SF, etc). In fact, it's rare in DC to find any 20 to 30-something y/o person that doesn't live in a multi-ethnic/multi-racial neighborhood and doesn't have a mixed assortment of friends (DC is diverse as is). Anyone saying otherwise simply doesn't know DC. The city's population is extremely international and transient. The most trendy neighborhoods in the most desirable cities in the US often fit this characteristic.

Many people choose to live among people like them in terms of class, career and lifestyle interests rather than race, though often the two correlate. People that graduate from certain schools can be of any race. There's many areas in DC, NYC, and any urban setting that attract people who are of a certain class (college grads, postgrads, etc), whether they be Middle Eastern, Asian, Black, White or Latino. There's plenty of residential buildings, for example, full of diverse people like this. People of similar professions or lifestyles or incomes tend to live among each other in dense urban areas. Too many girls and guys I know have or had a roommate situation with a person of a completely different race. That is is extremely common.

White people have a long history of being at odds while living among each other. They left Europe - either by force or through fleeing persecution, famine, hopelessness - and ended up in lands where darker people had already been living (Americas, Africa, Australia, etc). No one invited them to those places. And no one in those places ventured to Europe to be with them. Even today within the US, Americans move all the time to places that are quite different from where they came from (in all spectrums).

If Irish people couldn't survive a potato famine, why did America have to accept them (even when people weren't willing to hire them)? If Italians couldn't hack it in Italy, why did they come?

You could say this for virtually every group in America, which at one point or another was an immigrant group. People come here, like they go anywhere, for the chance of a better life ($$$). Plain and simple. Most people understand this.

Also, white people aren't a monolithic group or culture. There are extreme divisions based on a whole host of criteria (politics, religion, education, ancestry, class, etc). It sounds ludicrous to speak about them or any group as one monolithic cohort.

I'd be interested to know where a lot of people live as to contextualize their perspective. thedude737 lives in LA and has actual personal experiences through his work with undocumented immigrants, so his views are naturally understandable and credible from a firsthand account, not a media portrayal.

I've noticed many people who obsess over race and doom and gloom threads while rarely mentioning personal experiences often don't live in desirable places and/or lack the type of lifestyles that appeal to most guys on the forum. This is not only evidenced by the lack of data sheets or intel about interesting places and/or not having met up with other members, but I've confirmed this with those posters directly as well. It always helps to know where people are coming from as to understand them better, not to diss them. It's just a lot of the posts I read don't sound like they come from someone with firsthand experience in any important cities.

As they say, the proof is in the pudding.

The HC-scorpion dialogue has already proven to be extremely unproductive, so I see no need to go there again, and will refrain from doing so to preserve the peace of the forum.

I'm speaking generally to inform people on what's up and address incorrect information wherever I see it. I don't troll about issues that don't exist. Like many others on the forum, I'm a DC head so I'm going to speak out when I see false info being perpetrated about a place I know in and out.

When were you in DC? Where do you live? I think that would be pertinent to this thread in light of your posts.

I've already gotten PMs from other (prominent) members just now and in the past wondering why the same folks who don't post data sheets or useful game/money posts or have metup with members come out the woodwork on these threads to espouse some Aryan brotherhood nonsense (their words).

I'm a known entity. I've met plenty of members at meetups and in other countries. As far as I know, you have yet to establish credibility as to who you might be in the real world. I think that's a disservice to the forum.

I have a feeling if people knew where you actually lived, they would probably laugh.

Something controversial accompanies the Super Bowl every single year.

It's a perfect opportunity for trolling the masses.

Some of the most prominent Arab-Americans either live there or grew up there. I remember seeing a Vice clip about how that suburb even thrived during the recession unlike neighboring Detroit.

I grew up about an hour from there. I never heard anything bad besides when 911 happened there was some fear of other Americans hurting them because they were muslim.

The Arab community there and around Oakland county is very well established.

Some of them may be the wealthiest citizens with jobs that include small business and employment in specialized fields.

That's what I heard too. I have a relative who owns a shit ton of small businesses (gas stations, liquor stores, etc). He bought a good liquor store around there because the owners were terrified after 9/11 that they would get killed (liquor stores tend to attract bold mf's). He bought it from them for a very good price apparently.

Also, not all the Arabs there are Muslim. The Dearborn area has a large population of Arab Christians as well.

Very much so. Many people forget that there are some Arab groups that are Christian even if they are a minority.

The neighborhood I grew up in housed many of them. Their kids are first generation Americans with quite a few of them being extremely wealthy in comparison to the population. And we are talking about being in the wealthiest county in the state. These cats worked extremely hard and very family orientated. The women are extremely hard to game though.

Unfortunately, when 9/11 occurred many were thrown in the same boat as Arab Muslims. I remember some of them were getting a hard time from many white students because of it.

(02-06-2014 11:35 PM)thedude3737 Wrote:  As with the other hundred immigration threads, I'll offer the same goddamn anecdote.

I've worked with hundreds of immigrants, many of them illegal. Here's how I'd stereotype them:

They work harder, longer, are more obedient, bring less ego, answer my orders with a "Yes, Sir" or "Si, chef", are happy to work, are more reliable, stay with me for longer periods (less job-hopping). I could go on.

I get involved in their lives sometimes. Sometimes they need a ride or to borrow $20. Sometimes they need advice on buying a car or renting an apartment. I observe plenty. For the most part, they go home and live in cramped quarters with their cousins and shit, never go to the doctor when they're sick, and don't say no to additional work. Most of them work two jobs constituting an 80-100 hour workweek. Maybe they're getting some sort of welfare benefits but I sure as shit don't see it.

What I'd like to hear, from anyone on this forum, is what is wrong with that scenario, and what should be done about it? Some guys have talked about how "immigrants do the same job for less pay" as if that's a bad thing. Well, I'm here to tell you that I did the exact same thing.

To see most of the side-effects, you have to look at a bigger picture and include social consequences. I have seen your story myself and is partly why I made the point that a rigid, inflexible policy is a bad idea. But it's not the whole story.

Doing the same job for less pay isn't a "bad thing" in and of itself. That's how a free labor market works. But when the US moved away from 80-hour work weeks in the 20th century it was considered progress and greatly improved the quality of life for Americans, especially middle-class Americans.

To see how immigration can harm or at least change a community you have to look at the whole community. You have to look at the burden on public services (schools, police, transportation, use of public parks and recreation, etc.). You have to look at the effects on housing and rental markets. You have to look at the changing demand for local businesses, for example a french bistro failing and a cheap-eats taqueria opening in its place. You have to look at secondary effects. The immigrant workers might not collect welfare but the displaced Americans will. Or, more likely, the baby momma's of the displaced American workers will collect the welfare.

You also have to look at the day to day interactions of the people when they interact with store clerks, food service workers and such. It's hard to describe how much nicer it is to interact with a cheerful teenage girl who speaks fluent English than a sullen adult who mumbles and barely makes eye contact. If you go to a grocery store in a small community in white middle America, you're more likely to get the teenage girl (though increasingly she will be overweight). If you go to a grocery store in big city immigrant neighborhoods, you're more likely to get the sullen adult.

You also have to look at the scale of the demographic change and the capacity for the immigrants to improve their economic standing over time. Young males working hard 80 hour work weeks to "pay their dues" is OK so long as the system will reward them for sacrificing their youth in such a way. If 80 hard work weeks become the norm, that means quality of life is going down not up. It will mean an increasing gap between wealthy and poor and decreasing ability of the poor people do anything but work eat and live in soul-crushing tenement housing.

That's why there has to be a sane, sensible immigration policy that doesn't simply take one look at a cheerful, hard-working Mexican and say open borders forever it's every man for himself.

I have a feeling if people knew where you actually lived, they would probably laugh.

Frankly, I don't doubt that you get PMs about me. Do you think I haven't noticed the little crew that follows me around in these threads? God knows how much time you guys have spent getting your panties twisted about me. The fact is, I also get PMs from guys encouraging me to continue to speak up on these issues, because they're afraid to do so and don't want to get banned.

As for DC, I was last there two years ago visiting friends, bouncing around between Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle. I currently live downtown in a racially diverse, large metro area in the south. There's nothing laughable about where I live. Stop making unfounded assumptions about people you don't know simply because they disagree with you.

The idea that I only post in race threads is utter nonsense. I have tons of posts in both the Game and Lifestyle forums. The thing is, I am not afraid to post in a race thread and share my opinion, even if it is controversial and un-PC. And I almost feel obligated to do so, simply because I'm saying exactly what so many other guys are thinking but don't feel comfortable expressing.

And that's cool you've met other forum members. Good for you. But frankly, I find your passive aggressive obsession with my real-life identity to be embarrassing and, dare I say it, a little creepy. Obviously what I say bothers you a great deal and offends your liberal sensibilities, so you must imagine me as some kind of pathetic white supremacist hillbilly living in his mother's basement in Bumblefuck, Arkansas. How else could I possibly disagree with you so vehemently? The reality is that I'm just a normal guy. Sorry to disappoint your fantasies. I do value my privacy, however, and feel absolutely no need to prove anything to you or anyone else on the forum. So by all means, continue to imagine me as some backwoods, virginal redneck if it helps you sleep better at night.

But really, get over yourself. And get over your fixation on me. You're a grown ass man, and you can't resist taking these little passive aggressive shots at me like you're a character in Mean Girls. I was the bigger man and turned the other cheek, but you couldn't resist taking a shot anyway.

If this thread continues to get ugly, I would like both the mods and other members of the forum to scroll up and observe that it was HC who chose to come at me personally by questioning my identity and insinuating that my real life identity is "laughable", while I initially refused to engage him directly to avoid this type of confrontation. But he had to take a swing. He can't help himself. Guy has a strange obsession with me. Whatever happens next is up to him. He can continue to escalate his little internet feud with me, or he can walk away and quit wasting both of our time.

I absolutely cannot relate with this. Yes, this attitude is racism and yes, you are right, a lot of people are racist.

My personal belief is that racism is largely a product of ignorance and individuals wanting to stay as comfortable as possible.

Yes, I want to be around people I can relate with, but tying that in with the justifications about wanting to totally avoid seeing anyone who looks different is a totally different thing.

Sure, my few cherished closest friends will preferably be able to relate with my background, but the idea that I need to be in a neighbourhood with people who look like me never occurred to me. Actually, I like (and I think other do to), living somewhere interesting, not somewhere that is as much like only which I have already experienced.

"I can count on one hand, literally, the number of women I have ever met that can take that kind of advice, accept it and make use of it without their epic egos setting metaphorical fire to the conversation.

Most women "looking for advice" are in reality looking for someone to validate their cosmic victimhood, because it's not really their fault, because it's never their fault. This behavioural trait isn't absent among men, but when we fail society cares not, while when women fail there is no shortage of comforting platitudes on offer from every vector.

In the old days, the stronger tribe, after defeating the weaker one, would kill all the males, and rape the women.

In this way, they would spread their genes and leave their legacy.

You think they made friends with the males that looked and acted different from them?

What do you think conquistadors did when they came to America?

The conquistadors killed and raped, allowing for the Latino race to be created.

In North America, we didn't try mixing in with the Native Americans, we killed them and took their land.

It is in our genetic code to be more receptive to those that are similar to us.

And that isn't limited to just race, but culture, language, beliefs, values, etc

So when you see Americans that are angry with a commercial like this shitting on their American English values, it's only natural.

If i get banned for this legitimate gripe I don't care because I am a verified successful person willing to meet people and help them directly if I believe they have the ability to improve. If people like me are the problem on the forum I have no problem with the axe.

About a a logical as it gets.

First of all, I have no problem with the fact that you disagree with me or wouldn't want to hang out with me. I don't take it personally and I respect you for being straight up about it. And I wouldn't want to see you banned for saying so. I don't harbor any ill-will toward you or anything.

I do take exception to the bolded section of your post, however. It's simply an unfounded and erroneous assumption on your part. It's possible for two men to disagree without one of them being big headed and having no life experience. There's no reason to make our disagreements personal, and if you feel like I've insulted you in the past, know that was never my intention.

As for my work (and other personal details) I am intentionally vague on the forum because I value my privacy. I will just say that for a number of years I worked in a corporate finance role and did some contract work for Federal agencies. Now I am fortunate to be able to work freelance and am location independent. I earn a comfortable living but am not getting rich. My priority is on lifestyle and freedom rather than stacking paper. I suspect this is why we often disagree so strongly, since you seem to have the opposite philosophy.

If you still think I'm full of shit, that's fine. I don't think about you at all.

RE: Coca Cola Superbowl Ad Causing Controversy
Most of the people who PM me about Scorpion don't even post in the threads where he makes his absurd posts. They just observe and shake their heads and then write to me about it.

So, you live in the South, no shit. That's actually what I thought. That's the most backward region of the country. It's clear from your lack of authentic posts about anything conducive to money/lifestyle/travel that you don't live in a compelling city. What city do you actually live in? I'm going to laugh even harder if it's not Atlanta. There's no such thing as "large and racially diverse" otherwise.

Pretty much every prominent poster has basic information fleshed out, except you. People generally know where others live, where they come from (grew up), what they do or have done, studied, etc.

You hide these details, and then feel the need to have little internet quarrels with people who are infinitely more credible than you.

You had some debate about tech stocks with WC and got proven wrong, only to question his knowledge on financial/econ matters again. This is a man who works in high finance for a living, has met up with members, dropped data sheets, lifestyle, money threads, etc. Yet in your own little head you somehow think you measure up.

You don't even relay personal stories or experiences in any of your posts nor do you cite facts for support in any of your claims. You simply give these comically dramatic outpourings of emotion as a way to make your point. It's utterly pathetic.

You're the "Dash Global of cultural analysis." Purely theoretical, no demonstrated experience whatsoever.

Where have you even traveled to bring up invented cultural issues in places like the UK or Israel (places I've actually been)? You try to have armchair debates about topics people have witnessed while you run google searches. I have yet to see one data sheet from you but you want to talk about foreign countries like you even have a passport.

Again, quit wasting people's time. I never sought you out as a member. I simply corrected one of the many false posts you made and you, having run out of facts, had a tantrum calling for an arbitrary "ban poll." Unsurprisingly, nobody backed you up or supported it or even endorsed your posts with a "mere like."

Okay, "Mr. Everything Else." Run along.

Btw, I just got yet another PM expressing gratitude for what I've done in this tread.

Value - learn about it.

RE: Coca Cola Superbowl Ad Causing Controversy
Scorpion that's fine it still hasn't answered my question. Trust me I don't think about you in my down time I only respond when I see you in threads if I disagree.

Why should anyone trust your opinion? That's basically the point.

You consistently leverage knowledge about me when we go back and forth on the threads as leverage to get people to root in your corner.

I have certainly read your posts on other sections on the forum and again I can tell you're not a man of means. Hell you have even stated that right here in this thread that you are not a man of means.

So why do you have the opinion that you are somehow smarter than people when you're not well accomplished. It is nonsense to me. Location independence is a trap and I have already stated I can do that right now with no job if I wanted to as of this very second. (That is a separate topic) but for some reason you're the only one to get up and arms when it comes to finances the economy and Wall Street (I already gave up on Wall Street on this forum) You don't see other location independent guys doing that.

So why again am I an idiot and you are smart as you have stated numerous times in the past.

It boggles my mind. How can you really believe you understand the economy better than me (stated in this thread as well) when you know with certainty you're talking to someone who makes more money than you, works harder than you and more likely than not (I'll go with 100% certain) has read more on the topics than you?

I don't get it. Quite confident based on not being legitimately successful. No?

--
Note the tone is not meant to be attacking it is direct, basically what have you done that gives you such confidence in your knowledge. No need for personal details you can evade that, but nothing has been shown to give you such confidence.

I would respect your opinion a ton if there was some sort of credibility backing your opinions/rants.

Scorpion is a well spoken AND well written person. His prose is good. You can tell by his typing style

Anddd..... again no one can tell me why I should respect his opinion.

If someone is well accomplished and well written I will perk up. Being well written and unaccomplished yet making world economic claims... Well isn't that a keyboard jockey?

That's all I want to know, why is he so confident based on his experience doing and accomplishing... What?

That's where it falls apart.

"Better well done than well said"

I don't need to know his line of work exactly his response was good enough broad strokes are fine. I've already made my opinion but would love to be proven otherwise.

If that were true then most of the great thinkers in history have been 'keyboard jockeys'. To my mind, these sorts of discussions are about ideas, not about the resume of the person arguing them.

^ I will take my chances that scorpion is not the next Socrates.

Again why is he so irrationally confident. I am a confident person by I am not irrational. As I stated above give me a reason to give credence to opinions based on.... what . It doesn't have to be your income again I will bet everything in my account I have read more than him on economics yet in this thread alone he says I have no understanding of economics... Okay? Why so confident? throw income out the window tell me why I should listen besides telling me I am not well read when I read literally 300 pages per day. (Obviously not all on economics but you get the point) why should I accept his confidence at face value.

Also in this thread I see several successful people with the same view so to me that's a hint. But again I'll happily be proven wrong. So far it is crickets though.

^ not sure if that was a shot at me or not but I don't think I am being unreasonable. I laughed because I assumed it wasn't.

Just tell me why I should care, it is a legit gripe.

Telling me I am not well read and don't know anything simply because is not gonna fly with me tbh.

Am I being unreasonable?

RE: Coca Cola Superbowl Ad Causing Controversy
I find it bizarre and comical how insecure you guys are. If you really think I'm some poser, why do you get so upset with my posts? Why do you feel so threatened by someone who disagrees with you?

HC, why do you equate data sheets and travel with cultural analysis? Are you really so arrogant as to believe that someone could be well-informed and yet still disagree with you?

WestCoast, why do you equate net worth with knowledge and understanding? Are you incapable of understanding the difference between what is actually valuable in life and what is simply worth money?

HC is undoubtedly much more well-traveled than I am, and WestCoast makes more money. Neither of these facts makes me feel insecure. To be honest, I don't derive my self-worth from my number of passport stamps or my ATM balance, nor from my popularity on the RVF for that matter. I never claimed to be an expert on travel or making money. I simply share my opinions, and people are free to take them or leave them as they see fit.

As for calling me irrationally confident on a forum founded to discuss game, well, I'll take that as a compliment. I'm sure most of the women I've been with would say the same thing. But frankly, this is an embarrassing amount of insecurity coming from two guys who should be far beyond sweating a random poster's opinions to this degree. I would encourage you both to concentrate more on your own lives (which, as you constantly remind me, are much more successful and interesting than my own) instead of perpetuating this internet feud.
