Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
Guys
A lot if toronto gals in the Tdot right away go into " so what do you do for a living ?" line of questioning shortly after they are opened.
I feel it is rude of them to start off this way when meeting a new person in a social environment. It is if these gals are trying to sort throught their perceived list of beta occupations and move on If the occupation doesn't sit well with them . Any tips on how to handle this?

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
We've answered this a bunch, I know I have answered it

She's doing a few things

- Checking to see if you can afford her
- Seeing if she can use you
- Seeing if the question rattles you

Options

Be honest and matter of fact

Above but add smirk

Plausible lie

Implausible lie

Accuse her of being interested, gold digger, tacky

Make her guess, "I only like fun girls let's make this a game"

Any time a chick asks a question, she's investing. Take her investment and make something out of it. Make her work for it.

I prefer the 'make her guess' reply as suggested by WIA. When you lie to her by telling her a special and unusual job, it's better to tell her you were joking later in the conversation, otherwise it can kinda backfire when she discovers that you were lying…not because of your actual job, but because of the lying.

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
I guess my question is how do you steer away from this no- win question. I mean if :
1. You have an alpha job - by buying into to her frame you may end up paying for dinners etc . And be on a short leach until she finds a guy with a higher alpha role.

2. If in a beta job - you risk getting neged or ignored. Or you may try to seek approval and embellish your role

How does one answere in a fun way to basically send the message:
I don't want to talk about work
Don't care if you approve of what I do
She is a gold digger for asking
This is a social situation and not about work

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
A Russian chick asked me that question. It probably sounds funnier in Russian, but here's the English translation:
-What do you do?
-I do everything.

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
Depends on the exact phrasing of the question:
Her: "What do you do?"
Me: "About what?"

Her: "What do you do for work?"
Me: "Imports and exports"

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
Keep the insights and sharing coming! I now think it depends on the timing and circumstances of the question. I imagine at times it is a genuine IOI - in that case one can use the "guessing game" approach.

If it an outright beta test there are a variety of options: the Russian - " I do everything" - could be very funny in a group.

- the falcon also has some merits - see if she is really stupid ...
- one could also reply " I am a gold digger" - stay silent afterwards - some variation on tone could be interesting - so could turning and walking away in the right scenario

I'll also add that most women are so bad at conversation with randoms that it's a go to question. In a way it's a much more shallow version of a guy asking another guy who his favorite team is.

Some of my responses:

-Bounty Hunter
-I can't answer that. Not because I don't want to tell you, but because it's in the interest of national security

And one I just came up with off the top of my head just now that I'm going to try next time:

Work is for suckers. I'm on welfare. How about you buy a drink for the less fortunate?

LOL ...".Work is for suckers. I'm on welfare. How about you buy a drink for the less fortunate?"
Great one !
A total frame changer;
- changes the topic
Cocky and funny
Basically says I am indifferent to trying to impress you
I won't be buying you drinks like the other chumps
And real shallow and dumb question

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
I remember in the book American Sniper, Chris Kyle and his fellow SEALs couldn't discuss what they did for a living, so when they were at the bar and someone asked them, they'd make up some BS job. My favorite was Kyle telling a girl he drove an ice cream truck. Actually used that one night myself and it worked pretty well. The girl should hopefully understand it's a joke eventually, and by playing around with the question it prevents the conversation from becoming an interview.

Second the advice of everyone on this thread. You're spot on that it's a beta-test or a shit test (or both), she wants to screen your social status and girl-on-girl-jealousy power. The losing move is (a) get flustered like you are bullshitting her or embarrassed about your job or (b) get into a very interview-like, emotion-free discussion. Someone also mentioned girls with bad conversation skills defaulting to idle chit-chat. In any case, most people's jobs are boring and not of high status, so most guys stand to lose value talking about their work with chicks (in an initial meeting/pickup scenario at least). I.e. only a small segment of guys will actually impress women with their work - physicians, athletes, ibankers, Congressional staffers/political aides - and unless you're the President there is always someone bigger and badder than you so you don't want to play the "I'm a big deal at work" kind of card.

Fortunately, plenty of guys with jobs that don't generate the tingle get laid by hot girls. The better you can make your frame NOT about your job the better chance you have.

I like to give an answer so outrageous that it turns the conversation silly and makes her want to not ask again, or bump to other topics. I normally find that if I'm talking about my job, I've failed to come up with more interesting things to talk about.

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
I was asked the same question this evening and went for an answer I saw in a game video: "I'm unemployed and live in my grandmother's basement." The guys who were with me know what I do for a living and that it was a lie and began giggling. But it's tricky because if a girl doesn't realize it's a joke she'll think you're a giant loser.

Here are some others I do:
- Make her guess
- Bodybuilder (I'm tall and thin so it's a ludicrous answer)
- Chippendale's dancer (See above)
- Superhero by night
- Mad scientist

If a girl asks you this right upfront it's usually a sign that she's high-maintenance or has expensive tastes or has high status. The girl that asked me this over the weekend was wearing lots of expensive clothes, so she more than likely had expensive tastes. One time I met a girl at a dive bar and she asked me this question within 10 seconds of meeting me. I found out she's the singer of a relatively well-known indie band, so since she has high status she probably has to work extra hard to screen out unsuitable partners.

RE: Female beta test? "So what do you do for work?"
-Dolphin trainer
-Batman
-Dog whisperer
-Exorcist
-Voodoo shaman
-"I work here as the guy who talks with lonely customers" (this can be very effective neg, you can replace "lonely" with something she seemed to you like)
-Porn Stuntman

Sometimes you can tell them what you really do, but if she asks you this very early in the convo then chances are she's materialistic status whore so you have to mock her.
