RE: Is There A Point Of Diminishing Returns On Weightlifting And Attracting Girls?
On the scale of things, eventually you would stop being attractive to girls. At this level though, you're looking like Jay Cutler or Ronnie Coleman. However, next to no men actually achieve that level. Even if you're hitting the weights hard 5 or 6 days a week, you aren't going to look like that.

I think for the purposes of this thread, yes, there is a limit on how attractive you can be and how big you are, but the overwhelming majority of men will not get there. Therefore, none of us should be afraid of that happening.

You claim you were heavier but I bet it wasn't muscle. That is why you were so impressed with Superman Cavill's stats. On another thread you said you get high notch counts but the quality is not good, need i say more.
I am not into the girls that go to Indie festivals, i am interested in the hotties that attend pool parties in Vegas.

As for the OP original question, a guy at 6 feet 200llbs jacked is a different animal. Girls who are not confident in their looks will simply stay away and say you are out of there league. The girls you want will simply open you or most times touch you like a piece of meat, how I miss those days.

I said I have a high notch count but quality is hit and miss, or maybe it was patchy, I think. I've banged some beauties, but I take the rough with the smooth. I don't care all that much.

I wasn't impressed with Cavill's weight, I was using him as an example to show that 185 at 6 feet is not skinny.

You could bet it wasn't muscle when I was heavier, just like I could bet a lot of your weight is fat. At the end of the day, I don't really care. I was just trying to bring some balance to the thread. Just because I said a lot of girls don't like muscles (while a lot of others do), there's no need to take it personally.

Soup you can get a lot of girls already imagine you added 10-15 pounds of lean muscle to your frame by the end of the year. Not only should you have more girls than you know what to do with but there is no doubt there would be an increase in quality as well.

I think every man should work to optimize their body frame. Experience being at the skinnier end, experiment at the heavier end, and find that sweet spot that is perfect for you.

RE: Is There A Point Of Diminishing Returns On Weightlifting And Attracting Girls?
A lot of weight and heights have been thrown around but that's hard to compare considering people carry weight differently. There are some guys like me who are naturally thin and have put on 30 lbs over the last 12 years. Then you have a guy like my buddy he's what we call a corn fed boy down here in the south naturally bigger and stronger. His build looks more like a miniature strong man where I've been told my build is more like a underwear model, not my words. Now by far there are a wider range of women who will approach him than me. I see guys who aren't quite bodybuilder size but are close and they are all cut up. It just doesn't look natural. Being to thin can look strange and being to big can also. Finding a size that looks good on you may be the key. Edit: I just saw what Nas wrote above guess we agree on finding the right size.

Is that even possible to add that much weight in muscle? I've always been a "hard gainer".

RE: Is There A Point Of Diminishing Returns On Weightlifting And Attracting Girls?
I wish I was a hard gainer. My appetite is insane meaning it's very easy for me to gain weight, and because I'm mid teens body fat already I have to watch it. Despite being able to put on some muscle because of it my body fat can get higher than I am comfortable with quickly. That's why ideally I should get to a low body fat percentage before slowly packing muscle on. But even if I do go to a higher body fat percentage, around 20%, I do get the same if not a bit better reception from girls, than if I was 10 pounds lighter and 15% body fat.

Hard gainer has a benefit of you being skinny and low body fat already, so you can add some serious muscle mass with lots of room for body fat, without it getting to uncomfortable levels quickly.

You probably read this already but there was a great post earlier in the thread about it: /thread-32580-...#pid651826

For personal experience, my roommate first year in college was a 'hard gainer'. He had been working out for a couple years and barely put on muscle mass, although he did put on some strength. He was 6'5, 180 pounds, which isn't lanky but is quite skinny. I told him he could get to 200 and he said it was impossible, that he can barely put on weight and has an insane appetite as it is, and struggled to put on even 5 pounds.

I told him to double what he ate for breakfast, add in a box ok microwaved pasta servings a day (cheap, residence student food) and take a weight gainer protein powder daily. Eat before bed as well, whatever it was, as long as he went to bed full.

He hit 200 after a couple of months, I'd say at least 10 pounds of that was lean muscle.

The problem isn't putting weight on as a skinnier guy, it's maintaining it. You're just going to have to eat above what your appetite is used to for a long period of time to get to a goal weight, and once you get there maintain those eating habits. Maybe it will suck because you don't like to eat so much all day long, or it's expensive, especially considering food costs. But that's something you'll have to determine if it's worth maintaining or not.

It's definitely worth the experiment. I think if you were to put on a solid amount of muscle mass, you'd discover that you'd want to maintain it because the difference would be night and day.

I'm 6'0 usually bet. 192-197lb. If I didn't work out I'd probably be closer to 175-185.

99.999% 'hard gainers' aren't eating enough.

^^[email protected] sugar and nas. I would have to eat crazy amounts of food to increase my size by a significant amount. Its not worth it to me to eat to the point of being uncomfortable and feeling like I'm going to explode every second. I'd rather be thin and cut.

I'm curious as to how scrawny guys go to prison and come out with a huge weight increase a few years later. They probably take maybe one day off a week from weights and have fatty foods for every meal.

I boxed at 163 and know exactly what that size looks like.

You are built like a high school kid.

Not hating, but don't talk like some expert when you're built like a teenage boy.

That question itself is flawed. It's one of those questions that in theory make sense but in real life it doesn't come up all that much.

When do you get so big that you're spending too much time in the gym that it doesn't get you more girls?

It's not that easy. If only it were that easy.

If anything, the challenge is what to do when your gains stall out not what happens when you get so big that you're reaching diminishing returns.

Anyhow, 4 hours a week lifting is more than enough for the vast majority of guys.

So the the issue of organizing time shouldn't be that much of an issue. Hit the gym 4x a week and everything else will work itself out.

Newbie gains.

If a guy hasn't trained and hits the gym and his nutrition hard and right, his gains will be good enough that many will think he used steroids.

I used to say the exact same thing so I know where you are coming from. Eat large amounts of meat and drink milk. It's not hard really.

If you're new to lifting you will make great gains. The advice to just 'eat a lot' won't cut it for most guys, because it's nearly impossible to do everything right from the get go. If someone isn't used to eating a lot and needs for example 4000 kcal/day to add mass, the vast majority will fail if they just jump right into eating that much.

I believe that a slow build up of habits is the way to go, it's the only way that has worked for me in the long run.

Start off by changing just one meal in your routine. Keep everything else the same, and focus on that one meal for a few weeks. Then add another, then another. Keep doing this while lifting 4x a week. There are a lot of threads on nutrition and workouts, but my point is slowly add proper habits. Once you've been eating one proper meal for a few weeks, adding another isn't that hard, then keep going. Everything will snowball if you are consistent.

The other underlooked aspect that isn't mentioned often is you have a 'why'. If you don't have a reason for lifting you will quit. Everybody's 'why' is different. Some people were sickly as kids and want to be healthy as adults, others still see themselves as the skinny guys in HS. Whatever it is it will keep you going when thing's get difficult.

Do you think that's a waste, or is better to do it for an hour straight?

RE: Is There A Point Of Diminishing Returns On Weightlifting And Attracting Girls?
There is no point of diminishing returns when it comes to lifting. It's simply because the benefits exist on interconnected axes. Physiology, biology and psychology. I'll elaborate. There are the physiological benefits to weightlifting we're all familiar with: lean mass, increased testosterone etc. As you age it becomes harder to maintain peak levels which means you need to continuously push yourself harder. What results if done right is a sculpted body that pushes all the biological buttons in women that have been discussed at length in this thread. Put simply, women are more open to approach, more forgiving of fuck ups, and more interested in getting physical quicker. These are often subtle iois in the eyes of men but the little bits add up to a marked improvement in attraction success, which then benefits the man psychologically as his confidence grows. Confidence with women begets confidence in the weight room and vice versa, and around the three axes we go again. I moved to Europe three years ago and began taking training seriously and tripled my notch count in about 2 years. The data doesn't lie. I'm not a big dude (5'8 180) but often walked into bars with my training buddies and were clearly the fittest in the entire place, and all Eyes were on us. Too many stories to tell here but notable firsts include chicks sending champagne to my table, having a limo sent to pick me up for a dinner date and successfully maintaining a harem for longer than a few months. Some of that might not be a big deal to the vets but getting muscular has been a game changer for me, I'll never go back to "lean and toned."

If you think there are diminishing returns it means you are no longer satisfying one of the three axes or are bored with your routine and need to mix it up.

Thanks to the forum and MikeCF in particular.

If someone can spend hours in the gym in one session, they're not training hard enough. The longest I'll ever spend in the gym lifting weights is 90 mins, and that's when the place is busy and I have to wait around for equipment. I'm usually there for 60-75, and always leave feeling wrecked. That's how it should be.

If you want to gain muscle, get a gym membership and get on something like starting strength or strong lifts, which are only 3x a week, eat right and there's no way you won't gain weight. Lifting 30 lbs dumbbells throughout the day is just pussy footing around. You need to make a commitment to building muscle or you're going to go nowhere: plan out a program and actively make sure you're eating enough and getting enough protein.

@vytas - great post and spot on.

I had similar experiences and found Europe way easier, with a lot less competition in terms of fit dudes.

This is a great program for anyone just looking to get in the gym. It helps with consistency, and as you get stronger the program is far from boring. It should take you at least two full months. Stick with it to the end;

Absolutely. If you stick to heavy compound lifts, you'll walk out of the gym feeling like a godamned sexual tyrannasaurus rex. Heaven help the girl who comes by your place later that day.
