Yeah I looked around a bit, 2 bedroom it is haha. 4-5 bed condos for some reason are really bad value.
I'll just look for a 2 bed condo with a big living room.

Why as a student would you even be looking at a 4-5 bed condo to rent?

A place of that size is made for a guy with great financials (some would say baller) and / or a family man with multiple kids. The only other situation is if you are trying to get a place with a bunch roommates and have them effectively pay your rent for you.

I'd go without thinking twice. Regardless of whether the location of the university isn't super ideal you will have a blast I'm sure. Any time the option is travel or not travel the best answer is travel.

Yeah I would definitely share the apartment with other roommates, I thought bigger apartments would be better value for that. But with a budget of 15000 - 20000 per person two bedrooms are the best value. Although high rise is still out of the budget unfortunately.

Mahidol? Seems like it's a bit out of the city center. It won't matter much, cause you should follow your plan and stick to students, foreign and local. It might be a bit difficult to get to Khao San and back though, cause there's no skytrain.

As for 2, you'll likely have a better gender balance than back home, because Thailand is poor, so if you're good at math, it pays way better to become a coder or engineer, regardless of your interest.

Where are you looking at condos? Bang Sue should be cheap. 4-5 room condo, should be possible for 30-40K THB.

No it's the KMUTT university, I checked a couple youtube videos from other foreign students and the gender ratio indeed appears to be much better than at home. At home its not a problem because of faculties like interior design and shit like that, but KMUTT has them spread all over the city.

So you'd recommend staying near the university?

For sure, and not only that, but staying where other exchange students are staying. Preferably no further away than motocy ride or even on foot.

I would contact the university in advance and ask them about accommodation. They'll likely have a couple of options such as cheap dorm like options and condos they work with. I like your idea of a big condo and sharing it with one or two people, then throwing parties or just get an apartment of your own, but make sure other students live in the building. That will for sure be the best way to make the most of your stay. You're out of the city center anyway, so you're not just going to be hopping back and forth from the clubs all the time. You'll always be able to come back and live in the center, but you'll not be able to go back to being university student.

RE: The Bangkok Thread
Just booked a 3.5 week trip. Airefare alone is almost 1K fuckkkk. I have a long dry spell that I'm embarrassed about and based on what I've read from guys like WhiteKnightRises Thai girls should be a piece of cake. I'm not pipelining just running day game as long as a girl is cute I'll see if I can bring her home. I will do Tinder to a lesser extent here just have to direct the girls to my social media so I can screen them. Well aware there aren't that many hotties but I don't care. Would be nice if I can bang some Russians or Aussies.

I will definitely go to at least 1 cooking class, get massages, and go on some boat rides. Maybe do a Muay Thai session although that's ridiculously expensive. I will update with a lengthy report. Format will be:

Sightseeing
Thai Food
Thai and Farang Girls
Conflict and Miscellaneous

I'll admit I'm a little scared since I saw reports about political protests and how corrupt the cops are. This should be a fruitful vacation I think I will come back with an extra spring to my step back home.

You'll be fine unless youre completely handicapped. Not nearly as bad as people make out, Possibly people convincing themselves they did something risky for once

If you're on a long dry spell you're embarrassed about, you should sign up for 1 month of Tinder Gold and start pipelining. I've had some decent Thai girls (6.5/10, not exactly models) from Tinder, and if I told you how easy they were you'd think I was lying. It doesn't get any easier than Tinder in Thailand, and if you're on a dry spell then you should be having sex with the next girl that shows ANY signs of interest in you.

Sure, it's easy to get laid in Bangkok, but at night/day time you need some calibration to pull it off. I know guys who have gone to Bangkok and got no play whatsoever.

Bumping my question:

What is a typical date like for a girl you meet online or from daygame?

In the US, I try to meet around 8 at a lounge/bar and get her back to my place later. Will that work in Thailand, or are there other factors I need to consider?

BTW I'm in Phrom Phrong if anyone is interested in meeting up.

I just downloaded Tinder, got some vaccinations, learned what a travel clinic is, and purchased international medical insurance.

I just have to do a little more homework like booking accomodations and I should be off to a fun time.

Not read through thread properly but was just wondering when you were last in Bangkok or if you're there atm?

I was there a couple of months ago, and i had a bit of weird experience with Tinder (compared to my previous visits). Met 4 chicks and 3 of them I didn't bang first time:
- Chick 1 was a dinner next to my hotel and she wouldn't come back to hotel on first night so i never messaged her again.
- Chick 2, who wasn't from Tinder (Police officer I met at the airport) picked me up for dinner, dropped me off had a kiss in the car but wouldn't come up. We banged on the next meet.
- Chick 3 was a quick coffee on her lunch break in Silom.
- Chick 4 came straight to hotel and banged.

Might not seem anything out of the ordinary, but I got a distinct difference in vibe from any of my previous visits. It seemed to me like the girls in Bangkok have had the "farang" experience and were now less likely to jump into bed with a foreigner on the first night than they were before. It felt like they had a higher value of self than previously.

Apart from the chick who came straight to hotel (who was 19 and had some "normal" type job) the other chicks were 25-32, educated and had decent jobs - so maybe that was part of it?

Anybody else, had similar experience/thoughts or am I way off here?

I have noticed this trend all over SEA. BKK in particular as that's the best I know. Still miles better than elsewhere in the world, however things are changing.

Lots of reasons why that's the case.

I spent the first 7 months of 2018 in Bangkok. The hotter girls (7+) often take more than 1 night to get back home. Took me 3 nights to get this one girl back to my place. I don't think this makes them "difficult" though. Many girls won't go home on the first night because they don't want to seem like sluts. This is predictable, so I'd still consider them pretty easy.

I've heard that the economy is improving a lot.

Are there a lot of jobs available to westerners that are not just ESL teaching but actual white collar office jobs in the tech industry?

I guess I'm putting a hold to my Bangkok shindig. Got hired in big oil barring some freak accident. I could be pissed I spent 1K in airfare as well as more on vaccines but once my shift ends sometime in May I'll replan!

I wasn't saying it as being "difficult" per se. It was more, that the vibe seems to have changed a little and now those that I was talking to, seemed less likely to bang on the first meet.

For perspective - everywhere in the world I bang 90+% chicks on the first "date" so it was really weird that 2 of 3 that i met in a bangable environment didn't.

I'm going to answer your post here and the one in the other thread I saw.

The economy is doing pretty good in both places. Vietnam is red hot.

Jobs for you as a non ESL teacher with limited real world experience in tech as a dev? Slim to none. I'm in the region and am applying all over. I have 4 years as a software dev. 1 reply back and that was in KL.

My realization was that if you are coming over there are 2 tiers in tech at least on the technical side: 1)Entry level, you are going to be working for lower wages like a local with local working hours. This is not what you or me want.

2)They need someone on a senior or architect level, with good comp. That's not you or me. ~8-10 years experience.

Your best bet is something non technical, maybe technical writer or sales. Find a company that sells internationally and needs English native speakers. Not as easy as it sounds, and you will start entry level.

Good luck.

It will definitely not be easy, particularly as an entry level guy. I knew a coder at Agoda, who made 120.000 THB a month, but those jobs are filled word of mouth mostly.

I will second the notion that as an entry level dev it is not easy. Why would they hire a foreigner over a local that cost less and is a native speaker?

Which brings me to the 2nd point: salaries are about 35k THB monthly. Most foreigners will not take that.

Agoda pays more but they are looking for talent that can hit the ground running. Aka not entry level.

Its basically database oracle stuff. I suppose it can help get me a lucrative IT sales job?

You should try to make friends in the expat and entrepreneur community. Chiang Mai might be better considering how many foreigners are there doing IT stuff.

I was under the impression that there are alot of freelance web developers in Chiang Mai sitting in co working spaces like Punspace.

I do agree Asia is more of a who you know society, much more than the USA or Anglo countries where its more about internet advertisement.

So I have a friend who lives near Punnawithi in Suk 64 (teaches English). He has some game experience but no idea how he's making out tbh. Wondering whether to stay at/near his condo complex because there will be some kind of network to sink into, or whether to say 'fuck staying in the suburbs' and just stay more central albeit with double the rent.

Any one any thoughts on this?
