Do you guys think this is a good path to pursue after going to college? I'd like to do this along with med school and hopefully walk out of school with both degrees. Do you think the possible financial gain is worth the extreme time and effort involved in this?

Cali become a plastic surgeon if you're interested in medicine and are ok with delayed gratification. You've got to bust your balls for years, but the payoffs are great. Also you live in LA (I think) which is a good spot for it. My uncle is a plastic surgeon with his own operating centre and a few associates and hes making a lot of money whilst doing something good (helping people).

Cyr, I know plastic surgery makes serious money, but the specialty in general goes against my morals.
I'm looking at REAL dual degree programs, but the more that I study them, the more unrealistic it sounds. My initial thought was that if I'm dedicating a large portion of my life to education, I might as well try and get the most out of it as possible (like M.D. and J.D. degrees) Seems like that isn't the best idea. Thank you all, again!

That's a lot of your life, and over 1/4 of a million, or more in just post-bacc. schooling, and I haven't even got into residency (long hours with shit wages...), and the potential lost wages by choosing school over getting a better paying job. Over your lifetime, this could cost you millions in just paying for your schooling once all the factors (lost potential wages, interest amounts on loans etc.)

And WHY would you consider an online law degree? Do you want a doormat of a degree?

I'm dead set on medicine, no arguing it. No matter how much it costs or how difficult it is, I'm becoming a doctor. The reason I considered the J.D. degree in the first place is because my state allows me to go this route. If I lived somewhere else, it probably wouldn't be possible.

If you want to be a doctor, then be exactly that. What's the point of a JD if you aren't going to step foot in a courtroom?

Oh and not all plastic surgery is cosmetic. There has to be some plastic surgeons that reconstruct disfigured faces, etc. There's a lot of innovation in that route if you look past the doctors doing boob implants.

I would step foot in a courtroom if I got the degree. It's something I might be able to utilize sometime in the future.
I know there are reconstructive plastic surgeons, I just prefer not to get involved in the field in general.

If you want to do law school, do it as a second career 30 years down the line. There are too many shoes that are still dropping in the legal market to justify going to law school. I ran into a former MD turned JD and he opened his own shop to do medmal. Other than that, I don't think you can justify it.

It's self-contradictory for you to want to pursue both medicine and abet insurance companies at once. Doctors heal the sick. Insurance companies are thieves that financially prey on the sick. Make up your mind. If you want to be a thief who takes advantage of the ill and in the process makes a lot of money, just get an MBA and work for a medical insurance company, skip the dishonest pretense of medicine.

I never said I wanted to take advantage of others, there are many situations I could apply the J.D. degree towards in regards to insurance. I'm not going to argue about it, I'm not a scoundrel who wants to freeload off of patients and insurance companies.

Bro if you want to become a professional student go for this, if you want to make any money def dont. Experience trumps degrees. Focus on zipping through school and getting into the workforce. Thats where the money is.

On consideration, the OP needs a Ph.D. for proper educational preparation. He also needs a D.Ed. to understand the learning process. He undoubtedly needs and M.B.A. to manage it all. And he needs a Doctor of Divinity for his spiritual development.

He also needs black belts in a striking and a grappling martial art. A truck driving license is essential. Finally, a certified embalmer registration will let him bury himself with all these awesome pieces of paper.

Good idea. Honor and prestige mean a lot to me- as long as I'm happy with myself nothing else matters. What you all may view as pieces of paper, I view as honing myself.

Take the time and energy you would have spent on a law degree and put it toward entrepreneurship and investing on top of your medical practice
