The #1 all purpose kitchen knife is this series right here:

In terms of bang for your buck, sheer quality, sharpness, ease of sharpening, durability, nothing beats the Misono UX10. You can buy them at http://www.korin.com A decent sized one will set you back $200 or so. A UX10 chef's knife will take care of 90% of kitchen tasks. They make every type of knife you would need, from fillet knives to paring knives. These need to be sharpened with ceramic water stones, which you can also buy from http://www.korin.com I would highly recommend you buy the knife sharpening DVD as well. Do not have them sharpened at a locksmith or grocery store; they will grind your knife down to dust. Do not use electric sharpeners or oil stones on these knives. They will last a lifetime.

If you guys don't want to shell over 2 bills for a kitchen knife that's fine, I'd still recommend a Togiharu (can get for $120 or so) over Shun or any German knife. There's nothing wrong with Shun, Messermeister, or Wusthof, and I own a few of those myself, but there's better bang for your buck out there.

How does it hold an edge?
Some years ago I bought 10" chef's Shun Classic, because the guy at Sur La Table swore Shun holds the edge better than anything else.
I'm happy with it, even though I find the curve of its edge exaggerated.
As you say, there's better stuff. And you can never have too many toys.

I also carry this bad boy with me if I go to a sketchy part of town.

I usually have the Bowflex Dumbbells to save space. They're price savers in the long run too, I think?.. As opposed to buying every single increment of weight that is has as an option.

Have had and used these dumbbells for years. Worth the asking price for sure, money well spent.

Also a solid investment is a GoPro... very small durable and versatile. Just as good for filming that surfing trip as it is for banging that 9.

Aliblahblah, that exercise stand is retarded. Simpler better solution: doorway pull up bar + parallettes. If you have a little more room, an adjustable j hook for squatting and benching. Careful without a spotter of course.

A lot of people have been talking about knives in this thread. While this is not your big kitchen knife, but I carry this swiss army knife money clip around with me everywhere and it is incredibly useful. Having a little penknife in your pocket everywhere is great. Warning: if you're a frequent traveller watch out, if you try to carry it on your flight TSA will take it. If you're a money clip guy and hate big wallets like I do, this is my favorite accessory.

When it comes to knives, there is nothing more bad ass than the SOG Seal Pup Or the Gerber Prodigy.

As for gun porn, you can't look past the old Desert Eagle.
Does anyone know where I would be able to get one of these in Europe?
