Never caught the show but my question is what's the over under on how long will his punishment be.


“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson has been fired from the reality program following his controversial remarks in GQ magazine regarding homosexuality.
A+E Networks, parent company of A&E, has released the following statement to Variety:
“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community.”

I'm not saying he should have been fired from the show, but the interview is one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I have ever read. The guy is clearly a loon. Observe:

I actually read about this on The AV Club; a site I once enjoyed for their music and TV coverage but can no longer enjoy because of the constant social justice rallying cries ('Don't avoid The Walking Dead because of it's two-dimensional characters, spotty writing and dialogue from Cliches 101! Avoid The Walking Dead because it has misogynistic and racist undertones!') and the way that the macrame-wearing, fresh-berry picking, free-trade coffee drinking, limp-wristed east-coast Liberal twentysomethings who write for them are constantly stepping on a soapbox when someone dares to suggest an opinion that contradicts their ultra blank-slate, pseudo-Socialist, Obama-voting ('Two times!') worldview.

Just another butthurt bunch of wusses, pissing and moaning about something some "backward southern dude" said (and probably needed subtitles to understand).

Meanwhile, tons of people are gobbling up that Duck Dynasty stuff as fast as possible, and that "backward southern dude" and his family are cashing checks.

I don't watch the show, however I did read somewhere a while back that he didn't really want to be on it any longer. Actually, didn't want to do the show in the first place so his son had to talk him into it.

So I'd say he isn't too broken up about it.

Also, he's very religious so it's perfectly understandable where his views come from.

Kinda surprised guys are slagging him for his views on gays.

edit-btw-The guy has a pretty epic DGAF attitude knowing the shitstorm his comments would make. I give him props.

What is with American culture? I did a presentation awhile ago and made the remark to my students "what if your kids turned out gay"?

I don't watch the show, but nothing I've heard of his opinions or his manner of discourse suggests to me that he's anything other than a garden variety backwoods half-wit. Reality TV unfortunately gives a lot of these otherwise not noteworthy people far more attention than they deserve.

The guy lived rock and roll lifestyle in his youth hit rockbottom and found Jesus, hence his beliefs.

The nitwits who wrote that article are too stupid to realize that the crusades began as a defensive war against Islamic incursions into eastern Europe and barbarous attacks by Muslims on Christians visiting the Holy Land.

In addition, more people get murdered in Chicago in five years than died in the 300-plus years of the Spanish Inquisition. It is hilarious to see people make claims that ooze stupidity and ignorance. They make the Duck Dynasty people sound like Einsteins by comparison.

That "backwoods half wit" has a Masters in English and built a multimillion dollar business before the show was even thought of.

Listen to him talk once. He's very well spoken.

The guy is not dumb by any means. He does have very strong beliefs that are not far off at all from what many here believe when it comes to things such as family, feminism, etc.

I'm not religious, but the farther we get from it's tenants the farther we slide towards feminist/gay/socialist rule.
