All the the best Afro American athletes play football and basketball. Look at how they dominate the skilled positions in football and the athleticism in basketball.

As far as basketball players being seen as soft or "weak" I would ask you to look at how the game is played. In hockey you are allowed to fight, check, etc etc when it comes to physical play. That's not how basketball is played. You must be skilled enough to stay in front of a defender, block out, use your athleticism to take the ball away and block shots. So why even compare a hockey player to basketball.

That being said...

If soccer were a major sport in the US then what's so hard to believe that the US couldn't be a dominate force? Correct me if I am wrong but don't many international youth soccer players begin on the streets? Homing their so called "street soccer game" to where they have the sweet moves that you commonly see with Latin American/Spanish players? Isn't that what Afro American youth do now in terms of basketball?
What about in the European countries where the major sport played by whites is soccer? I'd imagine in the US if that were true then people like D-Wade, Andrew McClutchen, John Wall, etc etc would take the game to a whole different level.

You're focusing on certain positions within a sport. It seems to me you're wasting a great athlete by limiting him to just kicking the ball. Guys that end up gravitating to that position, at least on the college level, are former soccer players, since the swing of the leg and style are similar. The late Reggie Roby (Dolphins) is the last top punter that I can recall in the NFL, and Donald Igwebuike was a placekicker briefly for the Buccaneers, Vikings and in the CFL from the mid-80s to the mid 90's. He was the placekicker for the Clemson national title team in '81. He's Nigerian, so he had a soccer background. I'm reading a bio of Walter Payton, and he was actually a good placekicker in high school and college, but since he was a great RB, he wasn't going to be bothered with kicking beyond college. The easy answer to the question is blacks would rather play other positions, or different sports, rather than kick.

It would make sense that the descendants of slaves would be physically powerful- they were probably picked from their homeland because they had outstanding physiques.

I'm pretty sure slave traders have criteria that they use for choosing slaves.

Except you're not limiting him to just kicking the ball. Realistically, good kickers are forged early. So you're a high school coach, have a top-level running back, DB, or receiver - why not let him try his hand at kicking as well?

By the time we're getting to the elite college level or NFL level, even the "great" players in high school are washing up. Kicking is an extra backdoor opportunity to play elite sports. Seems like there should be a number of athletically talented black kids who crushed it at multiple positions in high school but just weren't quite there for top NCAA ball at the marquee roles who could end up with great careers kicking.

Being a good kicker has nothing to do with athleticism or genetics. It's about technique. Many wealthy families send their kids to kicking camps as a way to get scholarship money to good schools with football programs.
