Of the best hockey players in the world, a huge percentage grow up playing on frozen ponds in cold northern places like Canada, Russia, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Sweden, ect. Not many black people. You take those same black kids from Texas, Florida, and California and have them grow up playing pond hockey in the cold and loving it, and the NHL is gonna get a lot darker.
