RE: Business Insider article on Fat Shaming Week
Oh for fuck's sake!

How can any article with the word "Business" in its name write such irrational, emotion-driven, narcissistic, illogical articles? With that kind of approach, no one would ever have a successful business.

They're even citing Lindy West as some kind of psychological/health authority. LOL.

EDIT: it was written by a chubby, middle-aged woman. I guess that explains everything except why Business Insider keeps her on staff.

“Sometimes it seems like the Internet solely exists to criticize, analyze, or put people down. And I don’t jive with that," Caitlin says.

Um, the correct word to use in that context is "jibe" (to fit) not "jive" ('70s African-American slang for bullshit). Or am I being too critical, analytical, and putting people down by bringing that up?

I love how the police's advice was, "turn your computer off".

What happened to people taking CONTROL of their own fucking lives?

'But Tommy said some mean things on Facebook, so I'm going to be offended and cry!'

No bitch, BLOCK Tommy on Facebook, or turn your fucking computer off and hit the damn gym.

Fuckthat

The title is "Inside the Horrifying World of Online Fat-Shaming" and it's pretty much what you'd expect.

Taking their Pax D. mea culpa as far as they have to, I guess. Just firing the guy is far from enough to to expiate his sins. They now have to do their part for the cause as a continuing penance.

They had to come up with a nonsense "cyberbullying" connection to justify publishing a hard core party line feminist propaganda piece under "Tech" in a magazine ostensibly devoted to business. Because nothing is more important to America's business than protecting landwhales from death by cyberbullying.

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

Business Insider is not a legitimate business publication. The word "insider" is a huge tipoff. It's basically People's Magazine written for business mogul-groupies who want to think that they're getting the inside scoop on the business world. You may as well read TMZ.

"Each blogger must produce enough page views to cover their salary three times over for the site to be able to pay overhead, sales, hosting, and so forth. In other words, if your salary at Business Insider is $50K a year (to live in New York, no less), you have to produce close to 2 MILLION page views a month or you're fired." - Ryan Holiday, on Business Insider's compensation

No wonder they're writing about fat shaming. It triggers anger, which is the prime emotion driving link shares and clicks.

Interesting. I'm noticing this with more mainstream publications as well. Rupert Murdoch's News.com barely qualifies as news anymore. On the front page you'll basically have 12 articles about Celebrity Bullshit, a few self-help articles ('12 secrets of successful people'), and a tonne of Social Justice bollocks ('fat shaming!', 'someone replied in a sassy manner to a bully valid criticism!', 'Lily Allen's new video is racist, with no explanation why'

The increase presence of women in journalism has basically degraded it to the joke it now is. They won't see it, because their worldview is so small and their concerns are so petty.

This is to good. Linked at the bottom of the page in the "Recommended for you" section of the same article I get this link:

Which instantly became 1000x more memorable and ace than anything in the original linked article itself.

Remember, Business Insider is run by Henry Blodget, a former equities analyst who was banned from the securities industry for hyping internet stocks during the tech boom.

BI is good free promo for ROK and McQueen. It's a Garbo feeder/click site no better than gawker and buzzfeed. It gets a lot of traffic though so win win for both camps of McQueen and ROK.

I was sitting thinking the other day when did the Internet start to suck so much? Since smartphones and iPads and the need for content the Internet has been flodded with these types of sites like BI. The irony is for me in school they let you site that crap but not Wiki which has more standards in quality control then shitty BI.

In case you missed it when reading the article. First time Ive seen that word. I wonder if this is an isolated incident or sizeism is the go to word for fat discrimination now.

At least most of BI's readership leans towards men with many more inclined to logic. Frequently the comment section will have highly upvoted redpillish statements.
So not just traffic that consume angrily and move on to next SJ topic (Gawker Buzzfeed readers) but traffic that might actually turn out to be frequent future ROK readers

RE: Business Insider article on Fat Shaming Week
Honestly as an overweight man myself I think the fat-shaming stuff is well deserved. No one doubts that obesity is a huge problem facing the US and Western Europe.

There have for a long time been overweight people, but to me the real corruption of culture are the people who seem to think it's a good idea to let fat people think there's nothing wrong with them.

That said, the vast majority of overweight people wish that they could lose weight. If you think that they should just starve themselves and it's a simple matter of not being a glutton then you are naive in terms of biology. Read some Gary Taubes for insight.

I think it's entirely appropriate, however, to reinforce that being fat is a shameful condition.

No, that's the problem with fat acceptance. Thinking genetics is the problem.

It's not. It's your diet. Your lifestyle. How active you are.

Saying things like this will lead to no change. Maybe you should change your mindset if you want to get healthier.

Well you are right that it's not entirely genetics. But if you think it's just that fat people are lazy then you are sorely mistaken. There are mice, for instance, who will canablize muscle tissue before resorting to metabolizing fat stores. It's a complex biological problem. If you look at the studies where people were starved (the famous U Minnesota for instance) those people had irreparable damage in terms of metabolism.

If you starve an obese person for several months to get them to a normal weight, they won't be the same as a person of that normal weight who had never been obese. They will have intense food cravings and their body will forcibly store energy as fat in favor of building protein. These are hard biological facts.

Once you have been obese due to carbohydrate and sugar intake, it is very hard to get the body back to a normal state.

I agree that fat shaming is good for motivation.

Fat acceptance is bad, but thinking that this isn't a complex scientific problem and just a matter of willpower is naive and stupid.

The most important cure is to eliminate carbohydrates in the diet, and move towards a paleo-type diet composed of mostly protein and fats.

Rampant liberal focus on veganism is as much to blame as anything else.

I was once overweight too, but lost the weight. I sense wrong attitudes in your posts. This is what I can tell you.

Human cells prefer foods they got when they grew. One generation of human cells lasts for 7 years. In 7 years all cells except neve cells that we have for life, from 7 years ago have died and have been replaced by new ones. Hold for 7 years and cravings will stop.

But an easier way is just to change your conciousness. Find pleasures in life higher then food and reduce stress that makes you suspicable to overeating as stress management.

Also build muscle and you will be able to eat more witout getting fat.

Don't try to lose weight fast, lose it slowley but for good. While losing and still being fat focus also focus on your game, it will be harder but therefore a better training. If you do not you might be dissapointed that weight loss alone doesn't brings you such a big increase in popularity among females as you had thought.

Fuck genetics as an excuse.

I prepare every meal I eat from scratch. I grow my own vegetables. I gym four days a week and walk or cycle for roughly 40 minutes most days. I eat no junk food. I eat regular fruit and vegetables. I drink mainly water. In my workplace, I don't have fattening creamy coffees with a muffin or a donut that have the same caloric intake as a main meal, whilst mentally calling it a 'snack'. I don't use food as a salve for unhappiness, or as a reward, or as an excuse for socialisation. I don't instantly cave when others around me 'treat' themselves and try to guilt trip or shame me into eating with them so they feel less guilty about their indulgences.

The result? Everyone else in my family is obese. My sister and I are the only ones who aren't diabetics, though she's getting the 'pre-diabetes' warnings. My father and three uncles were only a couple of years older than me when they had their heart surgeries. My brother-in-law is already on Warfarin, so isn't far off needing it himself. They all eat high fat / high sugar foods in excess. They just constantly graze, hand-to-mouth, on food their body doesn't even need, and the eating seems to be largely unconcious.

Me? I'm 220 lbs of solid muscle, with low cholestrol, good blood pressure, exceptional eyesight for my age, and a strong heart, whose only health problem is mild reflux. My libido and virility haven't waned with age. Men my age usually have the reverse of all that.

The result? Women half my age hit on me, and think I'm 10 years younger than I am.

Stop making excuses, take control of your life, and get fit.

If you lack the discipline to maintain healthy weight, you're not going have the discipline to master game.

Really? Then find me a fat person who could not alter their condition through willpower and determination. Find me a fatty not bound by the rules of conservation of energy. Find me a mystical whale that can eat less calories than they consume through exercise and still gain weight.

Ultimately, the only people who have an excuse for being overweight are those with autoimmune diseases causing them to retain fluid due to inflammation, and other related conditions. They make up probably less than 1% of the obese.
