Cus D'Amato had the worlds largest collection of boxing videos. Mike and Cus watched and studied those videos for years when Mike was 14-19 years old.

It was actually his managers who had the biggest fight collection, Bill Cayton and Jim Jacobs I believe. But yeah, I was aware of his vast knowledge, but didn't know he knew THAT much! He literally knew things about all the fighters in that video.

That was decades before youtube too, so having these videos was almost like having insider knowledge. Even with youtube, many people don't take the time to watch the videos and acquire knowledge.

My understanding is that Froch was losing pretty bad, but then was able to stop Groves. Froch has done that before. He was losing to Jermain Taylor, on two of the judges' scorecards, but was able to stop him in the final round. Froch doesn't want any part of a rematch with Groves. Nothing good can possibly come out of it. Hopefully, Froch will have a rematch with Andre Ward. If it happens in the United States, I will be there.

Hey merenguero, the fight was pretty one sided (I thought it looked one sided anyway) and felt that groves was a shoe in to win it. Some people felt the commentary was in the groves camp but I think they called it fairly.

Personally I think there will be a rematch as the buy rates/ticket sales would be huge.

Manny looked great. Footwork to maintain distance, he was in and out all night. Head movement, he was always a moving target. Angles, he never came in or out on a straight line. Vertical distance, he was bobbing and weaving all night. Speed, he's still got it. Work rate, he stayed busy. His accuracy was very, very sharp. He looked good.

Rois didn't seem to be in great shape. He looked tired early. I think he gained weight for this fight and it didn't look like he gained the weight in the right places. Sometimes, diet can be a problem for crazy Mexican fighters. I also think the 9am fight time hurt Rios..

But, maybe Manny was just on a higher level and there was nothing Rios could do about it. Manny is just a better athlete and a better boxer.

Froch was shocked at how good Groves was. I actually won a bit of money as I got the KO round correct. By some very unfortunate refereeing, Froch won by KO in the 9th round. I have a feeling he actually might retire. There's no value in a 3rd Kessler fight, I think he knows there is a STRONG chance he'd lose to Groves if they fought again (I think Groves would be the bookies favorite), and there's no way in hell that he ever beats Ward. This wasn't like the Jermaine Taylor thing, as Jermaine Taylor was a favorite to win and gave a good account of himself and was just fucked by the end. Froch was HEAVY favorite to basically annihilate Groves, but Groves dominated the fight and had him almost beat in the 1st round. I think if Groves was to know what would transpire, he would have risked wasting energy and gone for the finish in the 1st to be honest. I was just very, very impressed, but I knew he was very good as he used to be (as of a few months ago) part of the Hayemaker stable where Adam Booth is head trainer and I rate him highly.

If there is a rematch, as Haig says, it would generate huge numbers here. Perhaps Froch could surprise me and take Groves to school. I doubt it though as he is technically quite limited. He attacks in straight lines, but is VERY durable and super, super fit...however, he's 36 and has been in quite a few 'in the trench' wars.

I think Froch would have won, Groves was starting to tire, he caught Froch which harder shots than the KO in rounds 5,6,7. Some gruelling hits that would have knocked out 99% of boxers, but Froch is Froch and the first round KO was a sucker punch. If you watch the fight again, you'll see that Groves won most of the rounds however the dynamic of the fight changed by the time the referee stopped the fight. Groves was moving towards Froch for most of the rounds, however round 8 and 9 it was Froch moving forward and Groves holding on more. Froch has a real deadly right hook and once he unloaded 2 in succession, part of a 5 shot unanswered combination, Groves was rocking. I wish the ref didnt stop the fight as he didnt help Froch at all by doing that, Froch would have wanted the knockout and I could see it coming.

Groves fought well and will be a very good super middleweight but he's young, he fought a guy who was fighting his 11th World title fight in a row, and half of them against other world champions.

^ Yeah but the ref should have let it go on for perhaps a further 5-10 seconds. What impressed me most about Groves is that he told Carl exactly what he was going to do in the first few rounds in their final presser, and I too took it with a pinch of salt...but he fucking pulled it off.

I just watched it through completely sober, here's my breakdown:
Groves dominated, that 6th round was a massacre. Although that's not to say the final part of the fight wouldn't have belonged to Froch. Froch started to improve in the 8th. I had Groves up by several points. I almost did a 10-8 for the 6th, because even though he didn't drop Carl, he dominated him so thoroughly and hit him with like 5 right hands. When you watch it back sober, you realize how good Carl's chin is. That's not really a compliment, as it means he got hit so hard and so often that I noticed it. Points total at time of stoppage (not including that final round) Froch - 74, Groves - 78. Regarding stoppage, yeah Groves was hurt, but should have been given perhaps a further 5-10 seconds, because that's what Froch would have had if the situation were to be reversed.

How do you guys rate Lennox Lewis?

He never fought Tyson at his best. And it seems he ducked a rematch against Klitschko - by retiring instead of taking the rematch.

He has an interesting record in the sense that he won every one of his fights - and avenged both of his defeats.
