Canelo all the way baby! I think he is quick enough to out box G Man now.

I still think GGG has more than enough in the tank to pull out a win, perhaps even decisively. I've corroborated this view with several people who's knowledge of boxing I respect and they all seem to think that "over 9 rounds", "going the distance" and straight win by GGG are all good bets.

Hard to say. So many unknowns! Canelo's chin has never been tested by anyone with a real punch. Miguel Cotto's brother rocked him badly. If that means he can't take a punch, GGG gets him out of there. The other big unknown is GGG's state of wear. He looked mediocre the first 4 rounds against Brook; boxing people after were asking "was he sick? Something wasn't right". And against Jacobs (who, heretofore, was considered a somewhat ordinary fighter who got flattened by Dimitri Pirog), he looked unimpressive. If THAT GGG shows up, he's in trouble. Some guys get old overnight. Maybe he's washed.

So which is the bigger unknown? Canelo's chin or Golvkin's condition. Whichever is true will indicate your winner.

Hot off the press:

This fight is gonna be huge. About as big as tomorrow night's fight. I have no idea which guy is going to win this one. Not even sure which one to pull for either.

18:21 staredown. Some dudes can do a good job of faking that intensity, GGG looks like he just drops the facade and lets his true psychopath nature shine through for a moment before going back to happy go lucky "big drama show."

RE: Official Boxing Thread for Videos, History, Interviews, Analysis, etc.
I expect and hope the triple gangster wins this by late stoppage. Canelo is yet to fight a true middleweight, never mind the middleweight at his fighting weight.

Canelo's usual strategy is to fight smaller guys, boil down to the weight limit, usually 154lb other than for the Chavez Jr fight, then rehydrate and enter the ring around 175lb, giving himself a significant size advantage over his opponent. When you are as skilled a boxer as Canelo it's easy to look great against smaller guys. In his last fight he fought a weight drained Chavez Jr who looked and fought like a zombie and he still couldn't put him away.

Look at his record over the last 4-5 fights and tell me hasn't been the one holding all the cards.

Let's not forget he dropped the WBC middleweight belt a couple of years ago rather than face his mandatory challenger, who just happened to be the triple gunslinger. He pulled a Mayweather trick and waited for GGG to show signs of aging before agreeing to the fight citing weight as the reason for not moving up to MW, despite regularly entering the ring at 175lb. I hate how the top boxers nowadays always try to stack the deck in their favour.

I used to be a fan but he has turned into a diva. I hope GGG knocks him the fuck out.

I also wonder if Canelo has changed his training and approach for this one, he says he has trained for the knockout. If he has put on a lot of muscle in a short space of time it could affect his cardio and leave him vulnerable past the middle rounds. Both fighters are in great shape though so there can be no complaints from either side on that front.

Granted GGG hasn't looked his best in the last two fights, however he knew Kell Brook couldn't hurt him and got involved in a street fight. Boxing went out the window.

Danny Jacobs is the clear number 2 fighter in the division with legit MW power, and he blew off the IBF weigh in on the morning of the fight (meaning he couldn't win that belt) so he could rehydrate a day earlier than GGG, giving him a clear size advantage on the night. He fought at 182lb and GGG still put him down and won the fight. GGG just showed a big powerful MW a bit more respect than he usually would other fighters. Granted he is older and likely has slipped a bit but he is in excellent condition for this one.

@ The Father - you say that as if Dmitry Pirog was a bum. There was no shame in Jacobs being floored by Pirog. Pirog had the potential to be a monster but had his career cut short by injury (whilst preparing to fight Golovkin). He would have been a top class middleweight otherwise. I believe he was undefeated when he retired.

Whatever happens tonight we have got one hell of a fight and I cannot wait. WAR Gennady!

Loma vs Rigo is also an awesome fight, they are the two most skilled boxers in the game today. Pity it didn't happen a year or two ago when they were closer in size but I'll take it nonetheless. Loma has to be favourite due to his youth and the size advantage but I'll be rooting for Rigo for daring to jump 2 weight divisions to take on the bigger guy.

Golovkin should win this one.

He actually has a better defense than people give him credit for. Every time he fought against someone with decent punching power, he showed great defense (ex : the David Lemieux fight). GGG has over 400 amateur fights, he can box really well defensively when needed.

When he faces fighters with little punching power (Kell Brook, Willie Monroe Jr), he like to brawl and doesn't mind taking 2-3 shots just so he can land 1 power shot.

GGG/Canelo tonight, Rigondeaux/Lomachenko in December... Nice way to finish 2017 for boxing fans! Thumb up

What the hell was that? GGG is a monster in the ring, this was a great fight but Canelo simply did not outperform.

So the judge with the 118-110 is a woman who has a history for being a shitty judge.

The second coming of CJ Ross. Heard she's the wife of Robert Byrd, the ref of the Mayweather/McGregor fight...

No, I don't feel Pirog was a bum. Just that Jacobs got clobbered. I met Pirog once in New York after a fight; he seemed like a very serious dude. It's a shame he never got to really test himself against GGG and others.

118-110?? She shouldn't be allowed to judge again. There's no penalty for horrible scoring. And with her, she done this before.

Where's Merenguero?

I'm cool with 7-5 for GGG. I can see 6-6, but that judge was paid off. I told everybody watching that Canelo is the goose that lays the golden egg and the future of boxing. They aren't going to let him lose.

Personally, if I was Nelo's manager I wouldn't have booked this fight. Maybe another two years but you have Crawford in the welterweight class that Nelo could take on.

Nelo has another 6 months to get ready for GGG unless they book for December. They will probably wait for the Mexican holiday weekend.

Boxing at it's finest.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

Corruption in boxing... Big surprise. GGG outlanded Alvarez in 10 of 12 rounds - Byrd gave Canelo rounds nine. GGG outstruck him in 9 by the biggest margin of any round in the fight: 24-13 [Including more power punches]. At best it's female stupidity. At worst it's a felony.

I lean heavily towards the latter. Alvarez is the golden goose of boxing [GGG is mid 30s with a fraction of the market of a Mexican superstar]. A Canelo win is the best option financially for a Golden Boy Promotion, second only to a draw [Rematch money].

Most importantly however, Byrd has a track record of this shit. Nobody with her history of awful judging would be given the rights to judge in the most important boxing fight of 2017. The fact that she was stinks of corruption.

It was close, but under no circumstance did GGG lose this fight. 115-113 was on the money.

Good fight, Canelo acquitted himself well but GGG was the better man.

Adalaide Byrd is a fucking joke, how she can be allowed to judge such a huge fight having turned in similar scorecards in the past is beyond belief. The 114-114 scorecard was also suspicious, the whole thing reeks of corruption.

At least GGG didn't lose on the cards, and we get to do it all again, hopefully GGG goes to work in round 1 next time, provided Canelo actually follows through with a rematch.

Just don't pay for the PPV bro's.

I'm a boxing and MMA fan. Right when it became clear the fight was going to the scorecards and they showed Adalaide Byrd as a judge I thought it could get interesting. She has had some horrible decisions in the past, and what I've constantly noticed is that she always favored the black fighters, especially against white ones. Given that Canelo is Mexican and GGG was from Kazakstan I wasnt sure if it was going to matter, but I'm a believer she hates whitey.

After seeing this do the GGG fans still think he beats Ward? Not a chance. He was right when he admitted he wasn't ready for Ward, and he never will be.
