And it's official. Tyson Fury pisses hot for cocaine in his VADA sample and the rematch with Klitschko is over and he is being stripped of his belts. That is a fast downfall even for Boxing. Fascinating. I liked him, if for anything, being the first person to best Wlad's awful style for the last ten years. I don't think we will be seeing Fury again. Even if he recovers, that mega pay day Fury-Klitschko II will never happen. Tremendous fuck-up.

Walters vs Lomachenko for the WBO super-fetherweight (130 lbs.) title at the Cosmopolitan in Vegas on Nov. 26th. Two of the top guys in a division actually fighting each other. What has happened to boxing? Al Haymon, being the the obvious answer. As much as I dislike Bob Arum, thank you for making this fight. Classic boxer-puncher vs puncher-boxer match-up. My hearts says Walters but my mind says Lomachenko, especially if it goes the distance.

Lomachenko all day. One of my favourite fighters - does everything well.

Yes he deserves top 5 on the P4P list if not at the least top 10. I hope he eventually moves up to fight Terence Crawford though I am not sure his frame could handle it, though he is 5'7" which is pretty much Mayweather's height. Arum has talked about it and said a future fight is possible despite the ten pound, two division weight difference.
Lomachenko's amateur record of 396-1 is a reason in itself to not bet against Loma as he has adapted to professional fighting very well, not something all successful amateurs do.

Boxing is the only sport I know where the pro's and amateurs have different rules, scoring criteria and format than a pro fight. But his fight IQ from having those 400 fights is amazing. I love this fight. I haven't been this excited in a while.

I'm not sure why they are fighting at the Cosmopolitan, since that's a really small venue. I just saw a fight there about two weeks ago. I'll consider going, but if I do, I have to leave the next day.

Well I assume the small venue is because of it being a boxing fans fight as opposed to a general public fight. 130 is still at that weight that people who can't get into the lighter often more talented lighter weight boxers don't really follow. I was also wondering myself when they announced that date, could be a scheduling conflict as this fight is being made less than 2 months out, rare in today's upper echelon of boxing.

This a fight I have been looking forward to since Walters stopped Donaire in spectacular fashion. When Walters had to vacate his belt it put a damper on it. Walters is a lot bigger and longer than Lomachenko so he has a punchers chance , but Vasyls ring IQ and experience is not much lower than Floyd or Bernard's, IMO.

Would have been a great fight for StubHub. Am I to understand you don't attend any fights outside of Vegas due to inability to wager?

I go to some local events in the D.C. area and Atlantic City, but I mostly stick to Las Vegas because I can bet there. Often, the fight isn't even in Laa Vegas, but I go there anyway, because it's the only place I can bet. Lomachenko is a much bigger favorite than I thought he would be, something like -550 and I think Walters has a decent chance, so I won't be going.

WOW, 5 1/2 to 1?
I would lay on Walters at those odds, expect the line to go down as more bettors place money on Walters. I like those odds. Walters is a live dog.

I think the odds may actually get worse for Lomachenko, as everybody seems to be picking him to win. It doesn't completely make sense to me as Walters is undefeated and has some serious punching power. Maybe it's Lomachenko's amateur record, which is easily one of the best in history. Golovkin's team just needs to give Jacobs whatever the hell he wants at this point, whether it is two million or three million. Take a pay cut. The money will pour in down the road and it won't matter in the least. If that fight doesn't happen, he might get Andy Lee at Madison Square Garden, a fight nobody wants to see. Jacobs and Lee wouldn't last six full rounds with Golovkin, so take the under rounds regardless of what they are. Saunders and Alvarez could both last into the late rounds with Golovkin, and maybe even go the distance with him.

Thoughts on Ward vs Kovalev?

What a competitive fight this will be! Regardless of who you think will win, I guarantee you that you're not so sure. Really looking forward to it. I'm thinking Ward will get rocked a few times, but take the decision.

Also if anyone needs a Lomachenko vs Walters floor seat row 7, I have an extra for face value of course. Another great fight!

I'm really excited about this fight. I can't believe Ward doesn't get any more recognition than this. He hasn't lost a fight since he's 13, he's the last American boxer to win a gold medal, he crushed everyone in a competitive division (168lbs), and he has a great "American dream story" (his dad was a drug addict, his mom lived in the streets).

He doesn't have much KOs and he's not the most exciting guy, but his boxing technique is perfect.

I think Ward will win a decision (either 116-112 or 117-111).

I'm thinking that Ward by decision prop is a really good deal +105 online, could be a little better or a little worse at the Las Vegas sportsbooks. If Ward is close to 100%, he wins by a one-sided decision somewhere around 117-111 to 120-108. If Ward is off his game either due to injuries or slowing down over the years, anything can happen including a Kovalev knockout. Still, the fact that I didn't get on a plane says it all. Both guys have a really good chance.

^^ Can't you just have a proxy bet for you or place a bet online? Or is it the thrill of seeing it in person?

My cousin is a professional sports bettor and he deposited cash and uses an app to place his bets. Says that he needs to be in Nevada (geo-hacking the location could result in wire fraud charges) but he says it's the easiest it's been since he started 10 years ago.

I deal in cash. It's just a habit. As far as I can tell, you can't legally bet online where I am. I think what you are calling a "proxy" is giving money to another person to place a bet for you, correct? That could cause a whole slew of other problems. The amounts I bet very often cause a Currency Transaction Report (CTR) to be filed and they request the social security number of the person who places the bets. That could cause both me and the person who places the bets serious, serious problems, which I don't even want to begin to list. I think I'm doing it okay the way I do it.

That Ward win by decision is bs. Had my money on Kovalev on decision.... So close!

Even Ward looked stunned that he got the win. Gonna be Ward v Kovalev 2 for sure.

Kovalev did enough to win this.

I said from day one that neither Ward nor Kovalev was a smart bet, but that if someone put a gun to my head, I would have to take Ward. I still won't be betting on or going to the rematch and also think the rematch will be a toss-up. I saw the first half of the fight, in which Kovalev was obviously in control. Kovalev just didn't throw enough punches. You avoid bad decisions by knocking a guy out. You seriously reduce the risk of bad decisions by landing three hundred punches, or maybe far fewer than that. To land anything remotely close to three hundred punches on a guy as defensively sound as Ward, you need to have an output of over seven hundred punches, maybe well over seven hundred punches. Kovalev barely threw half of that. Everybody is saying he got robbed and I don't doubt that. I'm now saying that Golovkin could beat both of those guys, but that they would both be competitive with him.

RE: Official Boxing Thread for Videos, History, Interviews, Analysis, etc.
Hey guys,

My first post here...

Some fight it was! After watching this fight twice already, it appears Kovalev should've won this fight, but the winner, albeit very close, was Ward. Official judges cards were 114-113 (Ward) x3, which might seem absurd, since on the other hand the fight could've easily been 114-113 Kovalev, or as wide as 116-11 Kovalev. It was a tough fight to call.

Kovalev dominated the first half of the fight. He was busier, landed the more effective shots, and even scored a convincing knockdown in the 2nd. However, on my 2nd rewatching of the fight I noticed that Ward dominated the 2nd half. Every round after 6 I gave to Ward, barely, with the exception of round 10 which I gave to Kovalev. Ward was more in his element in the 2nd half, with more activity and cleaner hits, slower pace and output, clinching tactics, counters, etc. He won the latter half rounds on my card by very small margins of about 2/3 exchanges.

I'll have to agree with the poster above, Merenguero, in that Kovalev could've won had he kept up his activity and threw more punches. For some reason, perhaps Kovalev being gassed/body punch accumulation, the pace changed and Ward became the aggressor in the 2nd half. It was a subtle shift, as Kovalev was still very much in the fight, and depending on how you saw it Kovalev even won a few extra rounds in the latter half being they were so close, but ultimately Ward was able to etch past him...barely.

I think for next time a more neutral location and judging panel is only fair, for Kovalev's sake. Either that or he tries to win undisputedly with the KO. An entertaining fight nonetheless, and I hope they have a rematch.

I'm concerned about Kovalev's conditioning and his team and am not completely sure why he just doesn't take a trip to the Summit Gym in Big Bear and start training with Gennady, Darnell Boone, and those guys. Losing most of the second half of the fight when he started so strong is concerning and was not completely due to Ward having figured him out. Also, for multiple reasons, I think it is pretty much guaranteed that there will be at least one rematch. Who could either of those guys fight at 175 who would earn them anywhere near five million? They need each other.

In the first few rounds Ward looked slower and with worse conditioning to me, but then it switched to the other way and Kovalev looked like his hand speed dropped significantly along with his usual aggression. You are right he should've thrown way more punches and that perhaps would've convincingly given him the decision.

I was watching a video a few hours ago about The Summit and Abel Sanchez and it was mentioned that Kovalev used to train there. I have no idea what happened to Kovalev there, but he needs to get back there. Darnell Boone, who fought both Kovalev and Ward and almost beat both of them, trains there and he could be of much assistance in training for the rematch.

^^

You beat me to it, I was going to post about the Abel Sanchez and Kovalev situation. I was browsing somewhere, I think it was badlefthook or some other boxing site, about there being disagreements between Abel Sanchez and Sergey Kovalev. There was also the rumor of Golovkin hurting Kovalev in sparring, and Kovalev's apparent refusal to fight 100 percent against Golovkin because he considered him a friend. I take all this information with a grain of salt, as much rumors are spread around boxing to drum up interest. No way we can really personally confirm any of this, but to anyone interested I'm sure a quick google search will yield results.

On another note, I'm not sure how much of the issue was Kovalev's team/his conditioning vs the damage of the body work of Andre Ward just naturally slowing his output. Hard to really say without doubt. One thing is for sure though, is that Kovalev, heck any boxer for that matter, would improve their conditioning at least 2x fold by training in higher altitudes such as Big Bear, and being amongst hardworking talent like Golovkin and Boone.

At any rate, that was a great weekend of boxing. Next saturday seems to be promising as well with Lomachenko vs Walters.

We'll see if I end up regretting not going to Las Vegas for tonight's fight. The Lomachenko by decision prop is a good deal, but I think there is too much of a risk of Lomachenko stopping him, especially in the late rounds. It's not even funny anymore how many times Billy Joe Saunders' fights have been either cancelled or postponed. If he finally gets in the ring next weekend and if he wins, as he definitely should, I think there is a really good chance that we will get an announcement that he will be fighting Alvarez in the United States during the first half of 2017, maybe even the first quarter. It will be at the full 160 pounds. If it is anything less than that, Saunders' management is completely inept.
