This case has been sensationalized to fit the narrative of "white man shoots innocent black man because he's racist". Nevermind the fact that Zimmerman is hispanic, or that Trayvon Martin initiated a physical confrontation with him. This story is media-driven to promote outrage in the black community. It appears I may have been talking out of my ass a bit there - A quick Google search showed me nothing more than him filming fights and another with him and another guy with gloves on. I haven't really been following this case, to be honest, and was speaking from a place of ignorance, which I should probably refrain from.

Regardless, there does seem to be reason to believe he was no stranger to scraping.

In any event, I was mainly trying to point out to Sonsowey that it's ludicrous to imply that Zimmerman should have been able to manhandle him just because he was doing a little martial arts training at the time. And that someone with some martial arts experience not being able to handle any teen sent their way makes them a pussy. Where do people even get this stuff?

Other than that, I'm not making any type of case here and if I did have a concrete opinion on the matter I'd be much more apt to back it up with a long, probably obnoxious, argument. It just seems likely to me that the kid could have knocked Zimmerman around or, at the very least, believable and understandable.

As far as I know, there aren't any released videos of Martin actually fighting. He didn't have a record like Zimmerman of being reported to the police on multiple, separate occasions for violence.

All that happened was Martin recorded a video on his cell phone of two homeless men getting into a fight, and there’s a photo of Martin apparently acting as referee.

Trayvon Martin was 5'11'', Zimmerman's just 5'7''. So Martin had a good four inches on him. Then you add the fact that Zimmerman was 200 lb. on the night of the shooting, according to police. That's not just chubby, that's obese at his height. Martin was weighed in 158 lb the day after his death.

From the looks of him, Zimmerman might be 250 lb. now.

I think there is evidence that the facts are different from your impression, the medical examiner said Trayvon was shot in the chest while he was on top of Zimmerman.

And if he would have waited a few months, by then little Trayvon would have had a gun. Of course it is not illegal for Joe Blow to do "Terry Stops" on young Black males in the dark but everything that comes after that interaction you are going to have to put your big girl panties on and eat it. Maybe he answers you questions even thought he doesn't have to or you get you head smashed into the concrete or anything in between. Only one person knows for a fact what was said on that day because the other is dead. Speakeasy nailed it, you can not try to AMOG someone and then shoot them when your mouth writes a check your body can't cash. The bottom line is that Z was wrong, Trayvon had permission and authority to be in that complex just like he did. I bet from now on he's going to let policing to be for real professionals.

I read somewhere online that this case is basically a reversed OJ trial. The facts doesn't really matter. The results of the verdict is going to depend solely on the racial make up of the jury. Everybody knows this. That's why they went out of their way to make sure they had all White jury. The fix is in. There is not going to be any riots neither.

You do know that the jury has a black Hispanic woman on it? So it is not all white, unless you consider a black Hispanic woman to be white.

This may make for interesting background drama, but unfortunately for the defense, it's irrelevant. Martin wasn't accosted by Zimmerman because he was walking down the street with a gun. The point you seem to be missing is had that been me or Athlone McGinnis walking down that street in place of Martin, Zimmerman's reaction to our presence would've been no different. So bringing up Martin's background is absolutely of ZERO consequence, because Zimmerman had no knowledge of it.

I said it before and I'll say it again, this trial isn't about race, it isn't about whether Martin was a thug. It's about whether a man has the right to pull out a gun and shoot you dead if he's losing a one-on-one fist fight. And then claim self-defense for a fight you had a major role in provoking. THAT is what this case is about at the fundamental level. And to me, the verdict is NO. All this peripheral bullshit is just a distraction.

Have you read the self-defense statues in Florida? They are pretty lenient. You may dislike the laws, but they are what they are. Under Florida law, Zimmerman was totally within his right to shoot Trayvon.
