Yeah, my boy always invited me to Bully. It would probably be a good time if I went with him because he goes there a lot with big groups. I was down to go but our nights off didn't coincide well. My other buddy told me that it's ghetto as shit and he got a gun pulled on him there. I'd still check it out at least once. I've probably been to worse.

I've been to a Dominican spot with a Dominican buddy of mine, I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. It was kind of ghetto, in some crapy generic hotel. It didn't seem to be unsafe though. Most of the people in there you could tell still had very deep Dominican roots. Lots of cute girls and good music and dancing. I'm going to try and figure out the name of it. It's not a high class joint by any means, but that's not necissarily what I'm looking for. From what I recall the bottles are cheap too.

Boulevard is another spot my Dominican friend used to go to. I never went with him, but from what I hear it's pretty ghetto. Another buddy of ours, who actually looks very Dominican, but he's black/white mixed American, said he got a gun pulled in him there. Our Dominican friend confirmed that things can get sketchy there, but assured me that if I went with him nothing would happen to me. I need to link back up with him. I haven't talked to him in two years, but I know he could point me in the right direction. He's also has awesome game. He's a pretty boy, all the girls love him.

Another spot I checked out was La Covacha. Here is a mix, many American born and many foreign born. Most things are written in Spanish. It's not as genuine as the Dominican place I went to where nearly everyone was Dominican, but it's was a nice change from the south beach hustle.

Also, where are some good spots to salsa or bachata. Or places that play reggaeton or dimbow.

Good post. The Dominican place you went to may have been Club Tipico Dominicano. A high percentage of the music there is merengue and bachata. Sunday is the best night there. If the place you went to wasn't El Tipico, I bet it was "Bully" or one of the places that Jariel posted about. Boteco is a good choice, especially on Tuesdays. To answer your question about good salsa or bachata spots, Miami DJ's are in general god awful as far as latin music goes. Much worse than in New Jersey, New York, Baltimore, and I think any Latin American country. I stopped going to Miami from about 2007 to 2010 mostly for that reason. They will play one salsa song, one reggaeton song, one Spanish rock song, one punta song, and so on. If you mostly dance salsa and merengue, that kind of song selection will screw you. The best place for salsa in Miami was always Cafe Mystique by the Miami airport. That place closed a couple of years ago, but I believe it opened back up in Doral. I've posted here trying to information on the new Mystique, but I don't think anybody responded. Other than Mystique, Bongos plays a lot of salsa, but as can be expected, they try to mixx in way too many other kinds of music. Moca Lounge has a salsa/bachata night on Thursdays. If you go there, be sure to report back.

I used to hang out in Miami quite a lot, especially in the various salsa clubs. Agreed on the old Mystique. While it's been a while, I went a couple of time to the new Mystique, and it sucked. Physically, crowd-wise, music, the works. Was nothing like the old one at the airport Hilton.
Wish I had a better place to recommend, but haven't found one yet.

Never heard such positive things about Stuart - will have to check it out.

I just don't understand how Miami doesn't have many good Latin clubs. Of anywhere you would think there would.

It's a D.J. problem. If places like Lolita and Baru Urbano had New York or New Jersey latin D.C.'s it would be a whole different story. I think the best place I found was Alcazaba, which was in the Hyatt in Coral Gables. I believe it was only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, but it was always packed on those two nights. They kept it open once a year for a party on the night before Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure if they are even still doing that.

Nice, I'll note that spot. It's still strange to me. Miami has good house djs. You would think some of the immigrant djs from South America would bring some good music over.

I've had some great times in South Beach and Miami proper, I would consider spending say 2-4 months a year in South Beach.

Would you guys say that would be a short enough time to avoid any of the general malaise or negativity setting in that people have talked about on the threads (i.e. exhausting the same old spots in Miami Beach, running into same social circles, etc.) ?

It seems that a lot of the drawbacks mentioned have been from people who have lived there year round, didn't have as much money to play with as they would have liked, or didn't like specific groups of women (Latinas) or types (fashionistas, brand/bottle bitches, etc.)

Not calling anyone out or making judgments, you guys have contributed a lot of great info, just trying to make sense of it all and the possibilities, thanks.

South Beach is fun for like a week at a time if you want to be around drunk tourists from the UK and Canada who get blasted by 4 pm and hangout in Playwright or some other shitty place on South Beach that is dead 90% of the time. The clubs on SOUF beach are also a joke because they will let your bitch in for free, then try to make you think there's something going on in there and tell you that you have to drop 1k+ on bottles just to get in. Guess what? You get in and realize it was a fucking waste of money real fast. Pick a different neighborhood if you're going to be here for awhile.

Yeah but if you're local and come often, there not trying to charge you steep like that. Also, I've never seen them tell people they needed to buy a bottle to enter unless it was a real big event. It wouldn't even make sense that you were forced to buy bottles, and then got in and it sucked. If so you got hustled hard.

Nothing to note about Alcazaba, it's been closed for I think about two years now.
