Second, this tactic is extremely powerful. I've done this move several times. This was the best example:

I used to be in the Batali restaurant group, so I've still got friends there. I had a manager make me and a buddy a reservation at B&B. Most of the meal and drinks were comped.

After the meal, for which I tipped generously, I spoke to the GM about hitting up a club. She made a phone call to the manager at Lavo. I skipped the line, met this guy at the front door, shook his hand, and I was in. It wasn't going off that night so after an hour I talked to the same guy, said I wanted to check out another club so he called his contact at Tao.

We arrive, skip the line, get right to the front where there's a couple VIP wristbands waiting for us. 90 minutes into Tao I meet a girl that's with her friends. She's a 6 but she's dressed uber slutty and passes the boner test and after 10 minutes of dancing she takes me up to her room and I fuck her brains out. I meet up with my friend afterward and we drive back to L.A. at 4 A.M.

We never got a room. The whole point of the trip was to watch a Kings game. I mentioned to my friend that we might get a hookup at a restaurant and one thing led to another. I think I spent less than $100 for the entire evening.

I've mentioned this in another Vegas thread but networking is everything and it's not hard. Just don't be a dick, don't be a blowhard. Industry people all hang out with each other and after a long day we're normal people that just want to unwind. I look at industry contacts like strippers: yeah you can drop a shit ton of cash and they're happy to take it, glad for the business, but then you're just another customer. If you can make some contacts, speak their language, and let them know that you're one of "them"? That shit is priceless.

Vegas is just like every other city except on steroids, a lot of steroids.

If you have a good strategy that involves putting yourself around a lot of drunk, women on vacation; and you also have a good look, which in Vegas is probably a sharp, modern suit; and you know how to talk to girls at least a little; and you have decent logistics worked out for getting girls back to your room -- Then, you have a great chance for success!

Guys with really good game and really good game plans, will kill it.

But, if you don't know where to go and where to stay; and what clubs are good and what clubs are bad; and you dress like a slob; and you haven't been talking to girls; and you haven't done any homework about where to stay and where to party -- Then, you are probably a lamb walking into a slaughter.

Guys with negative game or minimal game will pay more money for less results. Their inabilities will be rubbed in their face. they will sense all the opportunity in the world, but they will not be able to capitalize.

Vegas is too big, too layered, and too complex to think you can just figure it out when you get there. Knowledge is power in Vegas. You have to have the right information. Which weekend is good? Which club is good? Which club is best for me? Which hotel would be best? Is my Vegas wardrobe ready? Do I have a club hookup? Do I have a drug hook up? Have I talked to a few experts from the RVF Forum?

If you haven't put a lot of effort and research into answering these questions. You are setting yourself up for failure. Vegas makes a living off of the unprepared, uneducated, and ignorant.

Winners can win big in Vegas. There is more opportunity.

Losers can lose big in Vegas. There are more pitfalls.

I would say that if you don't hustle Vegas, Vegas will hustle you. It's a shark tank

I've lived in Las Vegas for about three years. I spent the last 30 minutes after getting home from the office reading this thread. I laughed. I cried. Slubu and G Manifesto are right on point, though: $500 in cash will get you where you need to go for any given night.

I don't do well in nightclubs, so I don't go. As others have said, Vegas is not some magical place where game principles no longer apply. If you're weak in clubs elsewhere, it won't change here. Stick to bars instead. Which leads me to my next point:

The winning combination is starting at the Mandarin Bar at Mandarin Oriental, meeting people there, and then bouncing the short minute walk to Vdara where there are huge bed-like swings suspended by 40 feet of rope. Very easy to isolate and escalate there. If you're staying at Vdara, Aria, Mandarin Oriental, or even Cosmopolitan, your work is done and you have a 2-5 minute walk home. If you stayed someone else, you have a 20 foot walk to get a cab. Does this recipe work for everyone? Of course not. But if you're more verbal and would rather hear a girl prattle about travel rather than celebrity gossip, this is the routine for you. My only gripe is that I wish the outdoor patio at Vdara was darker.

My main beef with Captain Power was that he stayed on Fremont Street and, from what I can tell, didn't spend enough time in the Fremont East area, or elsewhere in downtown (i.e., a 5 minute cab ride). Compared to the strip, downtown is a dump. But, if you're into and/or can tolerate artsy girls, it's gotten very, very good. Just a block past the Fremont Street Experience (the domed, lighted, Walmart-esque area of Fremont Street) are a bunch of small, indie-type bars. Yes, Insert Coins is there. Did you stop in Beauty Bar? The Vanguard? The Griffin? Downtown Cocktail Room? If not the last one, I forgive you; the door is hidden and the huge window next to it, where you can see people shoving hopelessly on the walls in an effort to get in, is the best spot in the house. That's probably why Tony Hsieh likes it.

Getting just 5 minutes off Fremont Street, there's a whole district of arts bars. Again, I've never seen them with a bad ratio of thin under-30 women. The newest place to open, Velveteen Rabbit, is run by two sisters in (I believe) their twenties and has good ratios all but built into it.

Now, if you'd just been dropped onto Fremont Street, nobody could fault CaptainPower for not finding these places. But he meticulously researched his trip (although perhaps not meticulously enough), so I can't feel bad about it. I also think the gratuitous bashing of Insert Coins is uncalled for - the place is making money hand over fist and looking into franchising. Nobody's forcing you to go there. It's not a place to pick up, but I'll never think ill of it after the times I spent there, like getting drunk and blowing $10 in quarters with Mike CF trying to beat that old Simpsons arcade game from the early 1990s where you can play as Homer or Bart, or curing a friend's hangover from the previous day with more alcohol and by playing House of the Dead 2 after he ran some 10 or 11 figure deal.

Anyway. The takeaway is that G Manifesto's blog has some key posts about Las Vegas. Even if they're several years old now, they're generally as true today as they were then. Read them and prosper. I live here and do way less interesting stuff than everyone else on this board, and they're even helpful in my comparatively straight-laced and uneventful life.

Great advice. So are these Fremont Street bars mostly locals? Sounds like some of these bars are hard to find, so the average tourist may not stumble upon them.

Mostly locals, but I've noticed an increasing number of tourists over the last 18 months. The bars have noticed it, too, and bumped prices about a buck a drink during that time span. Visitors seem to be finding the area by word-of-mouth or Yelp. Someone who doesn't live in Las Vegas and is in one of those spots probably is more adventurous than your average tourist, so take from that what you will.

The backstory for downtown's resurgence in the last 2 years is that Zappos.com is moving its headquarters there and dumping around $350MM into renovating the place. While that's not enough cash for a full blown urban renewal, it's been a very good start. There's something new there every time I'm in the area. Also, it's not hard to find; if Capt. Power found Insert Coins, he found all of the other stuff as well - the old-Vegas-style huge neon signs make them difficult to miss.

Ok let's see, so if if go to Vegas I am supposed to drop hundreds or even thousands of $$ hoping to get laid. I have a better idea. I'll take this money and have a blast elsewhere. From NYC, Mexico and Dominican Republic are less than 4 hrs away. Bogota/Medellin - maybe 6 or 7 hrs. Rio or Sao Paulo - overnight direct flights. Europe - about the same. Asia - takes longer to get there, but still doable. I've been to Vegas once and it was ok, but I had much more fun in South America and Asia and I don't mean p4p. I'll drop $100 on a night out in Vegas and feel like a cheapo. I'll do the same in Medellin or Bangkok and have and absolute fucking blast with booze flowing and hot chicks all over the place.

Yes, but if i'm going to spend my money I'll find a city where I can get more bang for the buck. I also prefer places where I don't have to jump through too many hoops in addition to having to spend my money. BKK may not be the best example - too far away and too expensive to get there, though I could get a ticket for airmiles collected by spending money on credit cards. Hotels are cheap. $50/night is enough for a nice and clean room close to the action, and you could find one for much less than that, or use airline/hotel/credit card points.

The cover charge to typical average club, like Route 66 in RCA, could be a few bucks which also gets you a voucher for one drink. Some clubs are more expensive, but still much cheaper compared to the US. There is dress/face control, but a foreign tourist who dresses reasonably well will get in. I haven't been there since 2010, so there are many guys on this forum who have much more up to date info on BKK nightlife.

I thought this thread was going to turn in to a shit throwing fest, but it reads like a case study. Great work. Someone should aggregate all of this in to a massive data sheet while properly crediting the posters.

Here are some of my own tips:

- On weekends stay at Encore Suites. Cab lines are killers. So is trying to walk a girl 15 minutes through a casino floor to get in an elevator with 5 other dudes. Depending on venue of choice, other options include Four Seasons or Mandarin. Anything that gets you a private entrance separate from a casino is fine.

- There are some really shitty strip clubs in Las Vegas. These are where girls who are too old or ugly to be normal prostitutes work.

- Don't wave your AMEX Black card around at clubs. May be I've told the story in other threads, but I know of multiple business associates getting bills that you can buy houses for in other parts of the country. The more money you have the less reason to pay a dime at the clubs.

- Go to the Spearmint Rhino and look for strippers who didn't drive their car to work. Sober strippers are not fun strippers.

- Everyone keeps mentioning vacationers and bachelorette parties. There is another even larger niche in Vegas: tradeshows & conferences. Many of the women that go to these don't even have the time or money to travel to Vegas on their own. For some, their company sends a couple of people a year to LV and this is their one trip. Best of all, they aren't with their friends or significant other. Those women are going to be a hell of a lot more depressed than you when they head home without getting laid.

I fucking hated Vegas my first few trips. Then I stopped staying at shitty hotels and I relaxed. Vegas is designed to rape your bank account for every last penny. All of the worst parts of capitalism manifest themselves here. Sit back, because once you understand it and the hustle, you have a towering advantage over everyone else. I don't gamble, but if I did, I would imagine Vegas is one of the lower levels of Hell.

Also, I agree that if you're on vacation, you shouldn't go downtown. If I traveled to Vegas from the east coast and only had what was downtown available to me, I'd be pissed. But, if you find yourself there for any reason and can't enjoy yourself, it's your own fault. In fact, downtown may actually be better than the strip for some people.
