Do you live in the U.S.? A good plurality, and even an outright majority, of relationships involve dudes dating down.

A good measure of this is simply noting the BMI of couples you see. Its much more common to see an obese girl with an average weight dude than vice versa.

I see fairly ripped, tall guys with near-actor looks with baby whales at least 30-40 lbs overweight in America. It's one of the most discouraging things for me here. I see guys definitely taller, better looking, and younger than me with chicks I wouldn't fuck! I rarely see an 8+ (tall, thin, nice face) with a nerdy guy who has neither height, muscles or upper-/upper middle class vibe so I have to disagree with Andy_B

I also see tons of hot chicks in swarms with no guys around in my large college town. As I've commented elsewhere, a lot of American guys are just intimidated and sick of bitchy attitudes, maybe even past a realistic extent, and are staying away from women in droves.

I am in California, and of course we lead the nation in social trends , and I think I see the girls starting to respond to the backlash and just a tiny bit admit to themselves (a) They're incapable of approaching (b) They might consider being nice if the guy does the work for them as they always do.

Too bad I'm getting so old I've got a different set of problems approaching 23 year olds.

This particular photo just might put the girl in a bad light. Note that she has the sun/shadow border on her face and her hair is tied for practical purposes, probably she also has no make-up. Her eyes are shut closer then normal due to the sunshine in her face. It's unfair to make any conclusions from a single photo especially such as this.

Keep in mind that a woman with an ugly guy doesn't mean hypergamy isn't fulfilled because he could (or probably has) great game. But I agree with you in general.

Her facial structure is unfortunately plain, but she is not ugly. I'd give her a 4 but, corrected for the fact that she is thin (gods, how fucked up everything is today that this is considered a huge plus?), she'd be a 6. He, on the other hand, is 8. Great facial structure, tall, buff. I don't know about his game, of course.

Barring the slight chance her being the ultimate girlfriend who cooks, cleans, gives mindblowing sex and never complains (which is even more rare than a thin girl), I'd say he is selling himself short.

That's a rafting pictures. They've just been splashed with loads of water, of course the woman doesn't look her best. She's probably a 6.5 all done up, and I deem him about the same, between 6 and 7.

Also how people look on pictures is often not how they look in real life. I look ghastly on pictures, I have to literally scavange through hundreds of pictures of myself to find one I feel does me justice.

She is not ugly, and not overweight, but still I feel zero attraction towards her. She is plain and almost asexual to me. I don't even know where to rate her on my scale.

Regarding the guy, I'd say they aren't that badly matched; I bet that if you asked most girls if they'd want to fuck him then they'd probably say no too. The photo might not be accurate, but he just looks like he lacks that killer instinct. If I saw him out in a bar, based on this picture I wouldn't view him as competition, he might as well be furniture.

I'm with you on the bitchy attitudes part. So many 20-something girls with downright toxic personalities. Others might disagree, but I'll take a pleasant 6 over your typical ADD, obnoxious 8 anyday, and double if it's a relationship. I hope what you see on the west coast is the pendulum swinging the other way but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

As for the photo, I don't think it's that crazy of a pairing. She's a bit plain but nothing terribly offensive about her. It wouldn't shock me if this is just a "high school sweethearts" pairing and he just hasn't approached a ton of chicks in his life.

Walk down any average UK street and you will see better looking men with women below them in the looks department. Generally the women will be fatter and overweight as well. It's simply how the dating market place is - competition amongst men is intense, yet the supply of attractive women is limited. This is one of the reasons why women can easily date above their looks.

Men have low value in the west, whereas women are of high value / status. As bad as this situation is, I do not see the situation improving for men, the only option seems to be the foreign woman route. Tough times indeed.

I think the setting of the picture is really doing her a disservice. It looks like they're going kayaking or something together.
