Tell me about it haha. Everytime I go over to another country the first thing they ask me is if im for gun control. Almost everybody when they find out im from the US they tell me their opinion on the issue and almost always tell me they are against the way we handle the gun situation. I dont get it either.

It's because Europe is whipped and boring. They complain about American t.v. and gun rights, but they eat that shit up, or it wouldn't be broadcast over there. The only american travel hate i have ever experienced was from other anglos(brits and aussies) and even this was a small minority. Ive never experienced antiamericanism from other europeans while traveling.

Without the USA, I seriously doubt the western nations would exist as they stand now. However from a point of view, without good ole' England, you would be French and/or Spanish. You wouldn't exist.

What did America have?

- Nice kitchens
- Nice homes
- Big cities
- Big fridges
- Suzy homemaker
- Vast fields, forests and lakes
- Hollywood
- Good looking guys who could charm the knickers off a Euro/English girl
- Indoor toilets

Your country was idolised because it was progressive and hated the likes of Hitler and Russian communism. That was great for when you were young back then. You had set us free from Hitler and made sure the Russians never came closer.

Then the nuclear problem began, Vietnam, Korea and now the problems in the Middle East since the 80s which blew up spectacularly in the 90s due to a transgression.

It really went down badly when the foreign policies enacted in your country started to eaves-drop onto the rest of the world and has created an atmosphere of fear and control. Something you could liken to what terrorists wanted.

Fast food culture is from America, shallow celebritydom is from America. Instant fame etc you get it.

You blame us for eating it up and yet it has caused a severe decay in females and to a large extent, males in the USA and Canada. We dont want that part of America.

Good god, I was in a flat of 4 women last year at University. They loved shows that portrayed moronic celebrities as the best thing since sliced bread. Not all of it was American but the shows were carbon copies of it all.

America has a lot of benefits but it also has a lot of problems it exports to other nations. English women lap that sort of thing up.

Sex and blood sells newspapers. It's a bit arrogant to think that the European media only writes about the USA. Like there aren't any other countries in the world. If something bloody happens in another country it would get attention too.
I can only speak for the Dutch media of course. Yesterday the media was going on about Bangladesh and their collapsed clothes factory (300+ dead) and today that's old news and the media will find something else to write about. It's just a business like everything else.

Every American woman I've traveled abroad with (3 now) has done this - immediately apologized with a "joking" laugh for being American when we met someone from Europe - and it never fails to annoy the fuck out of me. My beef with American politics and certain aspects of the American way of life was probably bigger than theirs, but I'm not about to apologize for where I was born, and any (usually) European that's going to judge me before a word comes out of mouth is just as ignorant as the Americans he claims to resent.

No time for people who are such hypocrites, and I'm certainly not going to apologize for speaking.

I was on a bus full of people from all over the world the other day though, and the Thais thought it was a good idea to play "Zero Dark Thirty" for us as entertainment. Now, that was awkward. Fortunately people just kept asking them to change it rather than get political about it.

I don't necessarily agree with most of our stupid foreign exploits in the name of 'freedom' but it's ridiculous that Europe lived high on the hog for decades and got itself back up on it's feet in a large part bc of the military buildup and protection America provided. I'm sure the 'we saved your ass' gets old but it's fairly true, and the Marshall Plan also was a big aid as well. The PC, pacifist multicultural model Europe has adopted is an utter failure, and all the benefits these socialist 'democracies' have awarded themselves are not sustaianable. Growth is no longer there, and the UK and France can only attract so much corrupt wealth to their capitals to prop up the tax base and real estate markets.

The reality is that if you don't have citizens who are willing to work fairly hard and contribute to society for a good period of their lives then eventually no matter how many poor illegals you bring in you can't find enough taxpayers to support the bloated system. Right now it only seems like Germany, Finland, Holland and maybe a couple other European countries have the wherewithal to keep their economies going...the PIIGS and France are pretty much f*cked.

In any case, you won't have to worry about it much longer - the US is burned out, can't afford these costly wars anymore and will continue to gradually retreat from Europe at least I think. You guys will soon be on your own re defense spending I think, and with all sorts of hotspots developing around the Mediterranean and Middle East it will be interesting to see what happens.

As I just said in another thread, we did pretty good in Mali. It was a real success. We have not only cleaned the whole north of Mali and partly chucked the Ansar Din and Aqim (Al-Qaïda in islamic Maghreb) jihadists - 4000 to 5000 well-armed and war-experienced jihadists - out of the country, but destroyed all their logistic to avoid any further offensive. I would even say that we (the french army) have done much better than the yanks have ever done in their recent wars.

About "interesting to see what happens", you should remember that what is a threat for Europe is also a threat for the USA - see the 37 deads (incl. three americans) of January's hostage taking in Algeria. The destabilisation of West Africa would not do any good nor to EU, nor to America. You certainly don't want to see a west Africa country runned by the jihadists and turning into an haven for terror organizations.

Quite a few of the americans I've met in Europe and Asia get dissapointed when they discover that I, as a scandinavian, have right wing viewpoints and shatter their bubble of illusions about how peaceful and prosperous Scandinavia is and how high taxes is oh so great (it's not, it is horrible). I find that rather funny.

Something I've noticed though is that I can almost always spot an American abroad, while it is far more difficult to pinpoint a french from a belgian or dutch or italian.

Americans talk LOUD in public, which is considered bad taste in most of Europe because of confined personal space. Americans also often seem to use some unflattering small talk in that typical drooly american accent 'oooohhhhh reeeaaaallllyyyyy'.

I don't think there is much American hate at all, overall I can't think of a nationality that is better to have when travelling, however, I do think a lot of people, particularly europeans have a tendency to see Americans as somewhat superficial and oafish. Friendly and easy to get to know, but lacking depth and subtance. That is the primary stereotype I've found in Europe.

I quite like Americans in general though and also American girls. I've been with two and both were quite feminine and sexy, very easy to talk to and very easy to score. Of course, I assume I was dealing with well off eastern girls with a fetish for european men, so it probably wasn't represenative.

I am Black before I am American. But travelling abroad because I am dark people automatically assume I am African. Africans aboard seems to get a bad rap. Once I open my mouth, interest rises and legs open.

Aussies seem to be interested in Americans and Obama. Europeans dont really care about us. South Americans seemed interested.

No one who has ever gone to war in Afghanistan had ever been able to win, including the soviets at their prime. It's a different kind of combat. The afghans are not a threat to us. They have a 0% chance of ever taking down America in our home land, so they aren't an immediate threat.

Europe 100% relies on America for it's security. Any German military strategist would tell you the same, as I've personally seen a few of them mention it in interviews. Germany would no way be able to come close to the type of army we have. What, do you think they'd be able to all of a sudden up and surpass the US with the last 70 years we've pumped into our military? Not anytime in the foreseeable future, and to believe so is delusional if you know what you're talking about.

A number of countries rely on America for security. The reason Taiwan isn't taken over by china is because of America. The reason North Korea doesn't fuck with the south is because of us. The reason Kuwait wasn't taken over by saddam, because of the us. The massacre in Yugoslavia wasn't handled until we stepped in, while European nations stood by and watched, waiting for America to step in. Pretty sure I don't even have to mention israel.
