After being critically important until a baseline of "pretty / bangable" is reached, beauty quickly fades in value and character determines the rest of the total value for marriage. But if the beauty is below that baseline, no amount of character can fix it, as is sadly the case here. I think he values different things.

If an average guy starts making over $100k (or even a lot less), he will buy a nice car and eat at nice place.
There is a picture of them eating Mcdonalds while on honeymoon.

I think since he dated her before he was rich (he might have lost his virginity to her) he believes she loves him for who he is and not his wealth. The problem with that, if he believes it, is that being rich is now a part of who he is. He needs to embrace his wealth as part of his identity and demand more from himself rather than settling for a very average looking soon to be fat wife.
