so when are you touching down in BKK? Clr, are you in BKK now man? I think I already pmed you my Bkk number? Let me know when you get here.
Also, I think I am going to postpone the muay thai bootcamp till Jan or Feb as I'm making some nice contacts here in BKK for biz and I'd like to strengthen those ties and if I were to go to Phuket now, it wouldn't be a good biz move at this time. All in all, life is good here. Exclamation

Hmm, maybe February? How long are you staying in LOS?

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
Ged,
I'll be in LOS till mid feb but very strongly leaning towards extending that till mid April.
YMG, Thanglor is indeed a very nice area of town to live in, but be prepared to shell higher than average for a decent apart. However, if you want to stay at a small boutique hotel that is very nicely located, decently priced and has some of the nicest staff, then Nantra de Comfort is awesome. I've been staying at a few hotels here and so far this has been my favorite and I'm even thinking instead of getting an apart, to just stay there the whole time.

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
An update from the front in BKK:
Because they're celebrating today the 83rd birthday of the King of Thailand who is reverred and worshipped almost like a living god in here, they do not sell alcoholo at supermarkets, convenient stores and even in some clubs after midnight. Last night, I was with 2 girls and my French buddy also had 2 girls with him and we want to go party and clubbing with the girls but couldn't find a single freaking club in all of BKK open. Tonight, I get the feeling that it'll be the same that clubs will be shut down early. What a bitch. Guess I'd have to party at my hotel with the girls, not a bad thing but would have preferred the club and picking some new girl.

So anyone else in BKK and elsewhere in Thailand at the moment, keep that in mind.

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
A few days ago, I mentioned about an awesome site for daily deals here in BKK http://www.tiktokthai.com Today, they emailed me an offer I couldn't refuse: 30 hours of Thai language lessons at the best/biggest Thai Language academy in BKK, AUA for only 950B. The offer expires in a couple of days, however, I'll have until 08-Apr-2011 to use those 30 hours as I wish. So anyone planning on coming to BKK and spend at least a month here from now until mid April, should consider this offer. You can buy the 30 hour credits (offer valid only for a couple of more days) and use them anytime until 08-apr-2011. A truly no brainer IMO. Of course I signed up and will start next week. Just passing the info to the rest of you guys in here.

Enjoy!Wink

Yeah, sorry for not mentioning that 950B is about 31 bucks!LOL
Clr, if you're coming in Jan and plan on staying at least a couple of months in BKK, you might as well sign up for that course as you can use those 30 hours as you wish until April. Would be fun doing some classes together.

Speaking of mayhem, I will have to refrain from stepping inside a specific night club at least for the next week or so as I picked 3 girls from there in 3 nights and all 3 are good friends of each other. LOL talk about my luck. Damn, i was starting to really like that club, but now gotta go try new ones. LOL

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
So my Philippines trip is about to come to a close in a few hours as my return flight to BKK is tomorrow morning at 5am. I'll post a full data sheet along my final impressions of the UPI when I get back to civilisation aka BKK. LOL For the past 4 days, I've been in a nice beach resort in Lapu Lapu, on the island Cebu in order to avoid the madness that is taking over Cebu this past weekend due to Sinulog, the Pinoy Carnaval. Despite initially feeling uncomfortable, over the course of the past few days, the UPI have started to grow on me and I can see myself returning here later this spring, but this time, straight to the beaches of Palawan and Boracay.

I've also seen and can confirm with first hand experience that it's very easy indeed to meet decent girls and that these girls will even hook you up with their friends/cousins/sisters. I've got to admit that the thought of postponing my return flight to BKK has crossed my mind quite a few times in the last 2-3 days. I'll post more about that in the next few days.

Now THAT is a welcoming country - offering to hook you up with friends and family.

Filipino ppl are very friendly and warm though, throughout the world. For the most part, anyway.

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
I've been back in BKK since Monday and I've been having a grand ball like crazy. Going out every night, picking up a hottie every night and even shoring another spinner from a gogo last night. It was actually a very wild night last night. I love starting the night at the gogos, specially at Soi Cowboy, not much of a fan of Nana. Nana is filled with the typical old sex tourists while Soi cowboy has more of a party atmosphere with a more younger crowd. In Soi Cowboy, if you want the best shows, go to Long Gun bar, where they have amazing shows with some very hot girls around 10pm to midnight with the occasional lesbian show. The lesbian show is ok with one very hot girl and an average one. More on the hot one later...

So for the past 2 nights, partied at Long Gun with a buddy of mine that has been living here for 2 years. Amazing party atmosphere inside the bar, crazy shows with absolute stunners. Last night, from midnight the entire place was jumping with guys and girls leaving their seats and dancing all around the bar around the stage. At one point, one older but cool US guy takes his girl and joins the strippers on the stage! Next thing I know, he invites me to join him as well, went there with a spinner I had with me. On the stage, about 10 strippers almost naked and me and that guy, having a grand ball with everyone else high fiving us. Awesome time!Banana

Then, at the end, the girl that was with me, a very sexy and hot little spinner, asks me if I'd like to go dancing with her after the club closes. Sure let's go, I said and she indicates to me no to worry about bar fining her. So we both leave with no mention of money to a club nearby on the same Soi Cowboy street. My friend has been gaming all night one of the waitresses, very innocent looking hottie. She also joins us with him. At the club, we of course, as usual, get a bottle service and a few minutes later, 3 of the gogo girls from that bar joins us including the 2 lesbians and a super sexy little thing. We party till 5 all of us: me and my buddy with 3 gogo girls and the waitress. Two of them were flirting, dancing and grinding heavily with me. Unfortunately these 2 weren't into girls so the prospects of a 3 some was out of the question. I had to choose between the older (33) but very sexy and sensual girl or the younger one but less fun. Stuck with the older one and it was the most incredible and wildest sex since I've been in Thailand. She's a nympho, always going at it. At the end, I had to literally kick her out around 2pm as I needed to sleep.

One thing I've noticed is that the first time, the gogo girl might ask for money, usually 2K (about 60 bucks) for all night of partying and senseless fucking your brains out, but after she sees how cool you are after partying with you, she will happily go party and do you without asking any money the following times. The purist players in here might say that it's not free, but I'd gladly pay 60 bucks for an all night of partying, drinking, then clubbing and wild and crazy good sex with a very hot gogo girl/stripper for about 60 bucks. Banana

On another note, my French buddy, who's a major partier and player, told me that on wednesday nights, Q Bar on Sukhumivit Soi 11 has every wednesday nights, Model nights where models get to get in for free but also get free drinks all night. I didn't go on Wednesday as I had other plans but my friend went and said while there were some models, the place was obviously a total sausage fest with the girls having a major bitch shield. Despite this, I'd have to check it by myself in the next few weeks.

I'm leaving tomorrow for Phuket then onto Ko Lanta and Ko Phi Phi for a few weeks at the beach. Looking forward to hitting the beaches, but I got to say that BKK is sick when it comes to partying and the party scene. God I love this city! This city is truly addictive! Bangkok is simply out of the scale!!!!Smile Off to the gogos now for some fun, but no clubbing tonight as I have an early flight tomorrow morning to Phuket. Life is good here in the Land of Smiles. Amazing Thailand indeed!Heart

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
gringoed,
No time for day gaming. I mean, everynight since early December, I've been living a crazy lifestyle here where I'd return to my hotel at 6-7am after partying all night, then sleep and wake up at around 6pm and by then, it's already dark and time to get ready for another all nighter. So not much day gaming lately. In the beginning did it, with some cool results, but didn't pursue it as it's not that hard to pull a new hottie every night at the different clubs. I know, this is not a very healthy lifestyle and I'd have to change that asap so that I can see the sun again and do some touristy stuffs during the daytime. LOL
Btw, when are you coming to BKK? And you clr? You guys have no idea what you're missing. It's simply mind blowing!

Vacancier Permanent,

I am stoked for you. Sounds like you are having a ball.

I got Thailand and Philippines on the docket for sure this year. Sounds right up my alley (so to speak).

I am definitely going to pick your brain before I go so I can get the most out of it. If I dig it, I may roll there for an extended time next year.

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
First impressions of Phuket after 24 hours is that this place is 2X if not 3X more expensive than BKK and I was under the impression that BKK is the most expensive place in Thailand! The worst is transportation. NO taxi uses the meter. Even the shortest ride will start at 200B which is ridiculous. Tuk tuks/little red vans will not even let you in for less than 200B even for a 10 meter ride! For 200B in BKK for example, you could circle BKK twice and we're talking about a megalopolis here! Taxi from the airport to Patong is 1200 with the official ones, insane! The trick is that when you get out of the airport, ignore all the touts and walk all the way out the front of the airport, turn right, and go 30 m to the metered (yellow) taxi stand. Fare should be THB 350, and take less than 40 min to Patong. Or you could take a mini bus for 150B per person. In Patong, motor bikes will start at 100 for foreigners while for thais, it's 20-40B per ride. That's one of the aspects of Thailand that peeves me the most. It's not about the money as it's insignificant but the principle that irks me to no end.

There are a ton of tourists and tourist girls, ranging from dogs to stunners. As usual, the dogs tend to be gringas while the stunners, ruskies accompanied by their husbands/boyfriends twice their age. Sure there are single girls, mostly Euros and Aussies but with so many amazing thai girls, I don't even look at them gringas. Nightlife, at least in Patong, is concentrated around Beach road and Walking street which comprise an area of 4-5 streets (about 4 blocks) filled with bars, gogos and clubs. Gogos are not as good as in BKK and some of them even charge outrageous prices for drinks, a couple wanted 500 for a freaking bottle of Chang beer! Ridiculous. But the worst thing is that they're getting away with it as the place is packed with Russians and Euro guys with more money than brains and sense! Didn't go to any gogo last night as frankly, there are way too many cool open air bars or rather, streets filled with open air bars filled with some very very hot Thai girls.

Of course, these girls are pros, but the fun and challenge is trying to game them to shore them. Almost did it with one extremely hot one but she wouldn't budge and wanted me basically to keep on buying her drinks all night. After a couple drinks, I cut her loose. At one part of the walking street, there are tall lady boys in feathers (think samba dancers/carnaval attire) posing for pictures with tourists and right behind them, on one of the streets filled with open air bars, there are tables where they dance on top of them. Of course, that attracts a lot of people to watch them, but the real action is a little bit further down that street where the bars are filled with real girls who are for the majority very very hot!

I noticed a few clubs, namely Hollywood Disco, which is an institution in its own right in Phuket. Talent is very very high, but 90% of the girls are gogo girls and freelancers with the occasional tourist girls. Another very popular club is Tiger Disco. Again, same as Hollywood but very high talent. I was too tired to go clubbing last night, but went for a quick look and liked what I saw. I'll check them further tonight.

Sight seeing wise, there are some breathe taking places nearby and I'll start going to some tomorrow, such as Ko Phi Phi, Maya Bay, Ko Khai Nok. Then, I'll move onto Krabi. This is more of a reconnaissance kind of trip to see which beach I like best and I'll return to spend 1-2 months there.

Couple of other things worth mentioning that I noticed: it's not easy for Indian/Paki guys in here as they have a not so good reputation. I witnessed it first hand 2 indian guys being refused entry to a bar and to a gogo and one t shirt street vendor flatly refusing telling the price of a nice tshirt to an indian guy stating that indians do not buy, so don't waste my time. I couldn't believe that shit and wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it with own eyes. So if you're indian/Paki, be warned!

Another thing that's really getting on my nerves are the indian touts for the suits/tailors. And these mofos are persistent as flies on shit, they follow you for a block. I almost punched one to leave me alone as he was following me for a minute. Other than that, a cool place but with its annoying aspects. The biggest for me is the double pricing for Thais and foreigners and the fact that cabs do not use meter!

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
G,
Yeah Thailand is dope dope dope! You should definitely spend at least a month or 2 as a reconnaissance trip to get a real taste of the place. As a comparison between the Phils and Thailand, IMO, Thailand wins HANDS down. Only positives in the Phils are the very very easy girls and stunning beaches. Other than that, it's a dump for 95%. Thailand has way more to offer. I did get bored after 10 days in the Phils while I could spend 10 lifetimes in Thailand. I'd suggest you spend 1 at most 2 weeks in the Phils and 95% of your time, in Thailand.

VP- When your walking down the main drag toward the ocean there's an (was) Irish pub on the right, about 3/4 the way down. It's a legit bar w/ no P4P. I did ok with the foreign chicks hanging out in there. They'll definitely give you a shit test about fucking hookers so I used this:

"I respect and understand prostitution is a part of Thai culture but I choose not to endorse it."
Fucking blah blah blah. Change the subject to diving or snorkeling or some shit. Once you convince them your not a sexpat they open up easily. No one seemed to pay attention to them cuz all the hookers around. LOL. I met two cute Swedish school teachers, a crazy Finnish chick, and a fucking smoking hot American ho. The Brits in the pub were good for info. Best thing is if you strike out w/ the foreign chicks just backtrack to a go-go and get laid w/ a local. Win win.

I stayed on N. Patong and their wasn't shit up there but peace and quiet.....and a few topless Euro girls.

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
Yeah I've passed through that bar Aliblablah a few times and seeing the girls inside, didn't make me want to get in. Today, went to Ko Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Monkey Bay and it was real nice, specially Phi Phi island. With my tour, there was a cute Chinese girl working as as mandarin teacher in Singapore, a 7 in face and body but a 9 with attitude, feminity and sexyiness. Spent a good amount of time today with her with her teaching me mandarin. Damn, if girls are that hot, sexy and friendly in China, then I'm going to have to get there asap. In fact, China is where I'm thinking of heading to very strongly for my next mini retirement! As soon as I get back to Toronto, I'll enroll in a Mandarin course at a local college to get a head start then do the same in China at a good university. On my tour there were also 2 very cute Japanese girls and I think Japan will be next after China. Smile

All in all, life is good here!Smile

Shocked RE: Mini Retirement Planning
So I'm flying home tomorrow night in order to take care of a few things before hitting the road again on my next mini retirement. As to where that will be, China is very high on my list and so is Japan or maybe even returning to Thailand for a year on either a student visa or a business/investor visa. I'd also like maybe to spend more time in the Phils as I know there are some great opportunities there, but nothing beats China IMO when it comes to opportunities. It's by far the biggest land of opportunities in the world nowadays and IMO for decades to come (with Brasil a close 2nd). I'll write a full report of my findings, views about my 3 and half months in Thailand and things I would do differently on my next mini retirement in the next few days. One of the first things I'll do upon returning home is to register for a mandarin and japanese class in a local college to get a headstart by the time I get to these places.

After having had a short yet extremely addictive taste of Asia, Asian women and life here, there is no turning back to a boring, mundane life back in North America, at least as far as I'm concerned. Anyways, signing off now, as I have a lot of things to do before I fly home and I only have 24 hours left in BKK. So expect a full report in the next few days of my first mini retirement in Asia.

Cheers guys.

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
It's now officially official: I have the yellow fever if you know what I mean. Prior to my first 3 months mini retirement in Asia, I was completely ignoring the Asian girls, but nowadays, seems I only have eyes for them. LOL Tonight, went to a japanese restaurant and was only looking at the cute waitresses while completely ignoring the white girls (even tough a couple of them were quite bangable, one hot little blonde and a cute brunette). I guess I've been very spoilt in Asia by how I was treated there by the girls compared to how the white girls I've been with treated me in the past. Nowadays, the only white/western women I care to notice are the hot ruskies, Latinas and Brasileiras. Gringas? Better left ignored IMO. Funny how Asia changes people. Anyone else noticed something different after being in Asia for a while? Can't wait to return to Asia asap!

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
I'm so bored out of my mind here in Toronto that it's not even funny. The weather doesn't help neither. It's been cold, snowing, raining and an all around awful weather. While I'm glad I'm only getting the tail end of this horrible season, it's still too much to bear. I can't wait to return to Asia! I'm already planning my next Mini Retirement. I was having a very strong desire to hit Japan for a year, but the recent events there are making me having serious 2nd thoughts and instead opt to return to Thailand and the Phils where I'd be spending most of my time with some side trips to other locations in the region like Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore for shorter side trips. That is planned for the fall as I'm focusing now on my biz and eventually adding a 2nd online stream of income to my portfolio. But damn, I can't express enough 2 things: a) how much I love Asia and miss it and can't wait to return there and b) in contrast, how much I find Toronto and North America boring, pale and how much bored I am here....

RE: Mini Retirement Planning
Greetings gents,

New to the board and just wanted to compliment VP on all the good info. Have been mini vacationing in Thailand for years, and I finally grew some balls and moved to Thailand last August doing the Location Independent lifestyle thingy and cant agree more with all VP is saying.

Bangkok and Thailand in general is the BOMB, and even once you settle in and stop the night owling, its still insanely good there. All I can say is go for it and you will be changed forever. Nothing is the same now for me! Eatpuss

Making a living is the KEY , but I have a pretty cool studio in a good neighborhood in BKK, 10 min walk to the BTS for under $200 a month furnished with internet included. You can live live like a rock star there on a beer budget, VP is spot on.

In the states now for a visit, and I am ruined for foreign girls as well. Most North American chicks just dont have any sex appeal, and that combined with their attitudes and out of shape asses just isnt doing it for me anymore.

If anyone has any questions or needs any info on Thailand and or Bangkok hit me up.

Cheers
