I know- that was kind of my unstated point-that these arrangements which haven't traditionally been an accepted part of American culture (though they existed underground at a low level) are now becoming much more open and socially acceptable as they always have been in most cultures.

I really think it's a sign of the long term structural economic decline of the US-people who aren't in the top tier are having to struggle a lot harder and this is a way for attractive women to get a leg up in improving their lifestyles. I think we're just seeing the beginning of this in the US; in the future "sponsorships" of young women by older men will be common and not viewed in a derogatory way

Hell, for those of us without trust funds who worked our way through college, think about how tight money was.

In college, going to dinner at Outback and having a $25 tab with my best friend was a "nice dinner out."
