Got me one of these few months ago . CLK 550 2006 374BHP , its rapid , similar to CLK63 .. really good value at the moment .

Another Merc I have a soft spot for.

The last pretty Mercedes in my opinion.

The good thing about this car is that it is so inoffensive. A true sleeper; lovely noise too.

It's a shame the handling and steering is a little passive for my tastes; in this era I was in the BMW camp.

Nice choice.

Why isn't the Chrysler Crossfire more popular?

2008 model is under 10k and absolutely beautiful.

Planning on getting rid of my gay Volvo and live a little.

Mechanico ... thoughts?

Judging by the flag above your user name probably no, not at all safe.

Is he safer than he would be with a New Jersey or a California flag above his name?

I'm trying to figure out how to word it. It's complicated to describe how thing happen and why. Everytime I think about it I get distracted. I never get 5 minutes before someone comes in my office or at home a kid is in my face etc.

I'm thinking of getting a BMW 2 Series coupe next year:

Any thoughts? The basic version with a 3-cylinder 136hp engine would cost me around 32,000$.

Dang Cosworth... Do tell more about this car. CLK's with the 6.3 v8 cross my radar when I get in a search mode for cars I consider slightly unique if not relics of the past when not everybody was downsizing motor size.

El Mech, care to chime in on the quality of that class Merc??

Interesting, so basically all these Mercs are like the hot woman on the surface with nothing but issues underneath? Noted.

This gearbox clunk is a well known issue , mine has it as well , very minor hardly notice it. If its cold on a down shift to 1st you get a slight jolt , but then it goes once out of 1st. .. Its mentioned on all the merc forums.. The 7G box is still a great box IMHO . This is my second CLK and the last one did rust , but mechanically the only thing that failed was a mass air flow sensor in 8 years.

I very nearly bought a Maserati 3200 / 4200 but the service costs put me off.

Planes are more my bag ..

Well if your the drop it off at the dealer type of guy and like to write 2 to 15k check out every so often it's great. I'm not that guy. I don't like the games they play like with the trans speed sensor plates on some models.. Same part in a dodge but Benz won't sell it to me because they claim its integrated into the anti theft. Please.

I actually beat them today on parts they can't sell here I sourced in France so I'll be selling them on eBay or rebuilding 4matic differentials they charge 3700 for that two 32 dollar bearings go bad in. They clipped the manufacturing place to never sell in USA so they are purposely fucking you guys. Get it?

500 dollar gear huh? They fail and you need to change way more than that. Not fair in my eyes.

I thought the same thing when I saw it, but it's the cheapest version of them all. The version with a 4-cylinder 184hp engine costs around 40,000$. The problem is, there are virtually no reviews of the 3-cyl version on the internet.

My other option would be the Audi A3 sedan which is somewhat cheaper, but I'd rather drive a BMW.

I have an M235i. It's plenty fast and fun to drive. If you have some extra cash to burn BMW is releasing the M2 next year. If you opt for the 228i make sure to get the track handling package otherwise you'll end up with a shell of what the car could be.

Sadly, budget is an issue, so no M2 for me.

I'd get the 218i right now if it wasn't for the 3-cylinder engine. I'm skeptical about it, despite having read some reviews that claim it's a quality engine. I don't want to spend 32k for a BMW and then end up driving a Skoda.

Between this and the Audi A3, getting the 220i seems like the best option for now.

I'm having fun in my shitty 1995 Saturn Sl1 with 108,000 km and weekends a 250cc Honda Rebel. It's been really sunny and dry cold up here in British Columbia the past week.
