Did you make it to Boracay?

Sure did, I'm finishing up a trip report today.

Had a blast. Ended up missing a flight home.

It was almost impossible to write the blog with all the drinking. I don't know how you manage.

Nice. That place has been on my radar for sure.

Do you think I would like that place?

I really need to try this Asia thing, but can never come up with a place that seems to fit me.

Not managing well.

I have probably written 8 blog posts in the last 12 months, so that's how.

Are you still sick of white girls? You should do a write up on them. It's funny half the forum is so white girl crazed they're willing to live in all types of frigid shitholes to get a glimpse of them

Mech - It's the attitude I don't like, I'm willing to go to some trouble for them but only if they're stunners. When I was on the plane I met these older girls that were in the 1st class cabin with me. They showed me their nieces that are 19. Fucking gorgeous. I mean unreal gorgeous.

G - yes, you would like it. There's a place called the Shangri la Hotel that's very nice in Makati and you would fit in anywhere we were frequenting. I recommend it for anyone.

It's like this : You have zero game - you get 5s on occasion but not infrequently

You have intermediate game - you get covered in 5s but only want 7s and above but usually get 6s so you aren't happy

You have top level game - You are covered in 7s and 8s

You have top level game and money - You have to turn 8s away and are covered in 9s +

Fisto -

Does that about apply to Boracay?

Or where?
Duke Castile 路 2013-07-20 11:56:00 路 #1380
I was thinking Manila.

Boracay is hard to say, everyone says the off season is no fun but we had a great time. You get treated differently, more coldly and it's less of a novelty for you to be there.

There are some very nice places to stay though, we saw a few.

I think during the high season you will be dealing with a lot of fucking fools so I personally don't want to see it.

THC has been to some other beaches and can shed more light but, we went on a cliff diving trip for a day and that alone made the whole thing worth it.

It's a gorgeous place, more pretty than anywhere I've been previously. Unspoiled beaches and nature. Hard to beat. It's not going to last either. Maybe another 5-10 years.

If I can get some cash together I'm buying in the PI

Basically what I am looking for is a beach destination I could stay for 4-8 months.

With good nightlife, not too small where I would get bored, inexpensive (compared to America) and girl.

Thoughts on what would fit that bill?
DVY 路 2013-07-20 12:07:00 路 #1382
@g-manifesto- I went to Tel-Aviv, Israel recently. Beaches, good food, good logistics, hotties. Touch expensive though (think LA prices)

Most diverse collection of middle eastern/russian/arab/ french morrocan mix I have seen yet. Basically throwing all the jews in a bag.

That plus its location close to Jerusaleam and historical influence makes it a must visit for any world-traveler.

Edit- sorry for the asia derail, but couldnt help posting how much I loved Tel-Aviv.
Duke Castile 路 2013-07-20 12:18:00 路 #1383
Boracay wouldn't do it for you alone, the good news is that it's unbelievable cheap to fly to anywhere in the Philippines. Manila is an hour away for example and it's got a nightlife scene that I consider almost on par with Vegas in a lot of ways.

In fact, just make that all of SEA. It's cheap to get around. If you look at it like one big city it's not hard to stay here for that long and always feel like you've got something to do.

G, I don't think you'd be able to stay in Boracay that long, its a really nice place and everything but I wouldn't want to stay there longer than a week, it could get boring pretty quick. I thought that the islands in Thailand, east (Koh tao, Koh Phagnan) and west (Krabi area, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket) were much better for a longer stay just because there seemed to be a lot more to do and much more people than in Boracay.

Fisto: you had a great run man, I really enjoyed the thread (and the blog), it was great to party with you in BKK, enjoy your time back in the USA, maybe I'll see you in South America next winter.

What a run Fisto! This has been one of my fav threads and among the first ones to check every day for the past few months! I'm going to miss it. Hopefully others on the ground can keep it going.

Boracay is definitely gorgeous. Have you made it to Palawan? I hear it's even more pristine and untouched than Boracay. On a 1-10 scale, how would you rate BKK and MNL overall as a place to use as a base in Asia?

Yeah I hear you about the post return shock you may feel specially
with all the garbage and attitude that goes with it.

Latin America is a lot of fun and you'll have a blast. Anywhere in particular or you're just going to be roaming around? Colombia and specially Brasil are going to be hard to beat. I have a feeling you will go gaga in Brasil specially if you can crack it into the right social circle. Before you get there, let me know I'll give you some good pointers to point you in the right direction. Paraguay would be a good contender too. Not much talked about but very high talent, way cheaper than say Brasil. Venezuela would be a total adventure in a frontier type of country.

THC and I were talking about it being over. It just didn't sit right with either of us. Our plans are to join forces again in South America, I am thinking Colombia might be the first stop. Medellin does seem played out so I think we are going to hit up some other cities and report of them. I want to go to Paraguay and Brasil, those are my other two places, maybe find one more country and figure it out.

haha nice!

Okay, a periodic return to vagrancy last night.

In Cambodia. Backpacker vibe is not really my thing, but damn I'm feeling the vibe here. A couple wild stories already from one night of letting loose.

First had one girl eyeballing me in the club last night and I kept avoiding talking to her - yep I'm one of those little hoes that plays hard to get. She sat down and watched her Cambodian friends playing pool. They were damn good - moneyed, somewhat-gangster looking guys. I watched for a while and then stepped up to play, thinking I was going to get dusted, and slaughtered the guy I played. Then went back to the bar. The way I nonchalantly delivered this display seemed to get the girl creaming and she moved on to dancing while eyeballing me. Finally I looked over and held up my beer to ask if she wanted one and waved her over. She came and sat down and we started talking.

Then she got really weird. I'd never seen an Asian girl do this but I felt like she was hard core a'moging me or something?? Making fun of me to get these white girls standing next to her to laugh. I was good-natured about it at first but it quickly got tiring so I moved to another part of the bar, which really bummed her out, but you could tell by look on her face that she knew she crossed the line. I'm seriously not that sensitive about these things but she really laid it on thick and was pretty annoying.

So she kept beckoning me back over, but I just ignored her and hit on some other girls. I went back to the pool table and she walked up and said she was leaving and asked if I wanted to go eat with her. Told me she had fallen in love with me. LOL I told her only if she paid for my dinner, and she said okay.

So we went to this restaurant where she knew some people. Some spoke Thai, so I got to bullshitting with them in that tongue and they loved me. Drank some more beers. The bill came and I went ahead and paid it, as not to be a dick. Didn't ask her if she wanted to go to my room - just started walking that way and she was holding my hand so she came along.

She started whining about her feet so I piggybacked her a ways, running to get her laughing. Then I put her down and she insisted on getting a tuk tuk even though I said it was just around the corner, and she even paid for it herself. Okay, up to you, I thought.

Then we got to the room and I left her in the hall to go get the key. But the guy running the desk, who I hadn't met yet, wouldn't give me the key as I was unsure of my room number and didn't have my passport. Finally it turned out that "his boss said" he couldn't let guests takes girls to the rooms. WTF? I'm a 32-year old man and you're going to tell me who I can have in my room? I mean, I could understand if it'd been a posted policy, but I wouldn't have stayed there if it had been. Guy totally shot my game. In my opinion, he owes me not only for that room but for another I got later in the night.

I walked her to a tuk tuk and sent her off with nothing to show but a phone number. Apparently she thinks we're dating now???

Went and took my key from the desk guy. I must admit that I was kind of an aggressive dick to him, which I usually avoid out this direction, but seriously man...Decided then to keep the key with me and went back to the club. Ended up in another club where all these girls were mad-dogging me. One grabbed my hand and drug me outside only to tell me she expected money. I laughed and went back inside.

I was invited to the table of a guy that worked for the club and we were bullshitting for a while. Then another girl started swarming me and I told her multiple times I didn't pay. She wasn't very good-looking but it was late and I was drunk and she was dragging me out of there by her arm, offering to pay for the tuk tuk even, etc. Okay, fuck it. I was almost embarrassed leaving with her as a couple hotties were around looking at me but what the hell.

Then her and the tuk tuk driver get me about 10 minutes away and pull up to a room and she has the tuk tuk driver tell me she wants money. WTF? Big story change.

I get out and at this point I'm raging mad (mostly the booze) and walking down the road with my fists clenched, muttering under my breath. Not sure if I'm even going the right direction. Finally I calm down enough to ask someone and it appears I'm going the right way.

A tuk tuk driver stops to talk to me and is following along and I tell him get away from me and don't follow me and that I'm pissed off. He says something to the effect of "Just because one person did you wrong doesn't mean you should be mad everybody." He was right but I wasn't hearing it.

I keep going and then my sandal breaks....Now I'm literally pissed the fuck off. I pick up my shoes and walk for maybe twenty or thirty more minutes barefoot and end up back near my room, where I come across a circle of tuk tuk drivers around a small beer booth. I walk up and angrily ask for a beer and one of the guys starts questioning me about what happened.

When I tell him, he not only fixes my shoe for me but takes me into this tuk tuk, which is parked up against another one, and 6 or 7 drivers are sitting there drinking and bullshiting, with another 8 guys swarmed around leaning in. They sit me down and I end up having a good time partying with them - they even gave me a ride back to my room for free to make up what the other random driver and girl pulled on me (though not really the driver's fault now that I think of it). A free ride? At this point, Cambodian people have earned back my respect!

After they drive me back, I leave again. haha End up just a block away from my room, where some ladyboy keeps offering me a blowjob and these other girls keep eye-fucking me. I leave to another bar and one ditches the old man she was with to come find me and insists on getting a room next door, since we can't go to mine. I said no pay multiple times and she says don't worry.

Kinda older and not very good-looking (whatsoever) but one of the better blowjobs in my life. Holy shit. Way better than I've ever had from a Thai girl. Banged her out a couple times and wake up in the morning regretting even fucking her.

And what happens? Of course she wants me to pay. Aaaargh. "Are you fucking serious?" I said. "You remember last night you said don't worry about it?" She agrees that's what she said, but get this, thinks I should still pay because I have more money. LOL I also tried to explain to her that it was she that wanted me and not the other way around, but she only proceeds to curl up on the bed and pout, telling me about her money problems.

I was arguing it for awhile then she dropped a threat about the cops and having a "problem." I said go ahead and call them, and apparently I'm shit at bluffing because she asked for my phone, which I assumed she was going to use for calling some tough guys instead of a cop.

I decided I'd rather not having a grudge going with a prostitute on my first night in the wild west of Asia, nor do I fancy an ass-kicking from a mutt-pack of these wiry ass Cambodian guys who have nothing to lose, so I threw $10 on the bed and told her not to even talk to me if I ever saw her again and to get the hell out.

I came out to pay for the room, as I'd overstayed checkout, and guess who counted out my change? LOL Yep, the hooker. Appears she worked there. I took my money, said thanks to the hotel guy, ignored her, and left. At least she didn't try to keep my change, so I think we're good if I just ignore here from here on out.

No more hookers in Cambodia. Fucking dick's going to fall off if I'm not careful. Might call the short ass cutie that bought her own tuk tuk though. She seemed a bit crazy but from a few hints she dropped I think she plays the foreign boyfriend game rather than straight up hooking. The lesser of two evils, I suppose.

Back to my usual mellow self. Going to work in the room for a couple days (a new one) and then seek out the local clubs to hit up some higher class puss. Not trying to get back into the party scene especially after how last night went, and it seems a real danger here. On a better note, the women are not too bad here. I expected them to be uglier, but I've seen some real cuties. Not stunners but I get the sense that the ones that are really hot are going to be drop dead gorgeous.

And 0.50 for a beer? Fucking hell...

Major lesson from the story: If your hotel refuses a bitch, take her somewhere else. You're only going to step out into public with a loaded weapon in your pants and get yourself in trouble if you don't.

Avoid Thailand for waves; Phuket has some but I hear they're tiny. Go to Indonesia or the Philippines. The latter has a lot of yet-to-be-discovered surf and one small island there in particular has the best waves in Asia and the 4th biggest in the world. Secluded place though. Look up Cloud 9.

As BB says, I don't think anywhere in Thailand has decent surf, Qwest wrote a great data sheet which covered most of the southern Thailand party spots and I added to it as well, this sheet pretty much covers all areas of interest and is probably the best sheet on RVF for a guy interested in hitting these places up. I'd say a guy could easily spend 4-6 months (not including the necessary visa runs) bouncing between the east and west islands and not get bored, some of the activities include Muay Thai training, scuba diving, excellent fishing, rock climbing, water sports (kayaking, etc), ATVing and of course partying hard 7 days a week surrounded by hot foreign women. Also, there's tons of weed/mushroom bars on these islands which can be fun, I didn't see any of those in the Philippines.

Thanks, Man - and I appreciate the info you sent in response to my pm.

I'm not in Phnom Phen yet though. In Siem Reap. I started in some restaurant and then went to Temple Bar, which is an extremely touristy spot. From there I moved to some Cambodian club, which was pretty nice, and I surprisingly didn't see any tourists in that place. It was right next to the backpacker center so kind of strange, but you know how tourists do. Typical dark room, pumping base, and everyone dressed up nice kind of place that you find in Asian cities. Don't remember the name. I'll try to give better details in the future. I haven't read the Cambodia data sheets but I assumed all the good info had been covered so I wasn't planning to make one.

I'll probably head to PP in a couple weeks after I get my Angkor Wat fix. I talked to a couple local guys and they told me about a few decent local-style spots here in town - last night was nothing more than a welcoming-myself-to-town party. My usual routine when my boots hit the ground is to act like an idiot for a night to blow off steam from the trip, get a basic lay of the land, preferably get my dick sucked, and then get to work.

A couple initial impressions for anyone who hasn't made it here yet:

I like that you can pay US dollar for everything. Makes acclimating to a new country much easier. Just be sure to carry a pocketful of reil for smaller purchases as you can lose a lot over time from them rounding up. 4000 reil is one US dollar, meaning a 1000 reil note is about a quarter. Nice. In the restaurant bars, you can get draught beers for $0.50, though some will charge a buck if you don't eat there. This is pretty sweet because you can eat dinner and then hang out for a while slurping cheap beers. Partying much cheaper than in Thailand.

Cambodians speak very good English so communicating is much easier, at least here in Siem Reap. I have noticed, however, that when their English is limited you can't understand a damn word they're saying. Their accent is very strange.

The people are warm and friendly but very serious. They struggle with sarcasm. For instance, a little bit ago a girl came to take my empty glass off my table and I went to gesture as if I was going to slap her hand, and this look of mortal fear and confusion seized her face. LOL Thais do this too, but for her it didn't even go away after I smiled. I had to verbally express that I was kidding before her face softened and she started giggling. It does seem they have a very good sense of humor once they realize you're having a piss though and are very willing to laugh at themselves.

As my story suggests, my experience so far is that they're a bit more adamant about you paying even if it's a shore. Aggravating to say the least, but somewhat expected as the people are quite destitute here.

The people seem quite a bit more culturally curious than Thais. I feel I can have a conversation with people here more easily and that, even if they are trying to make a buck off me, they really are motivated to figure me out.

Lots of hot foreign women here and you could probably gain a lot of lays from that crowd. I sat next to a girl from Poland on the bus after we got off the train and I sensed I could have profited from it if I was willing to try. But many are annoying (some are arguing at the pool table right now and getting on my nerves). Cambodia is huge on the backpacker scene right now. Upper-market tourists too. Sitting down on Pub Street you see a ton of tourists milling about, there's a very energetic "Disneylandish" feel that Thailand has begun to lack a bit. You even see a lot of organized tours - mostly students - passing through. Surely here for the temples.

These are my initial thoughts after a day and a half, so take them with a grain of salt and shot of liquor. Just be sure to wear a condumn.

If you want great waves year round for surfing and a place big enough to party and consistently meet new people then your best bet is Bali. I lived there for a year before I was ready to move on.

I love the idea of surfing in Bali, so I wanted to check some risk factors.

This is a little off topic, but this guy got bitten in the arm in Bali surfing ( during storm runoff when water is cloudy and more attacks occur.)

http://sharkattacksurvivors.com/shark_at...php?t=1471

I'm not including this to discourage anyone from going to a fun place, there's always risk in enjoying life.

Key thing from his story is:
1) He had friends there that facilitated his quick movement to a hospital
2) He had travel insurance, the operation to patch his arm up was USD10K

Maybe makes sense to have a bug-out plan and evacuation plan should things go sideways.

I think I'm going to get travel insurance when to go to the third world.

If your worried about dying in Bali, Phuket, Jakarta, Manila, Cebu, Bangkok, etc... then you should mostly be worried about a car/motorbike accident. Everything else is minor in comparison.
