I got the number of this freshman girl and invited her to a small get together at my friend's apartment. I attempted to isolate her in a room. After a little conversation I asked her if she was really single (everyone was talking earlier about the color you wear and your relationship status; she was wearing a green shirt=single). I told her something to the effect that I thought was a chill person and that I didn't know how to approach her, some b.s. like that. She then told me that "I like to take things slow". A little while after this her friend was getting ready to leave so we came back out to where everyone else was.

My question is how to get her to hangout with me alone so I can effectively escalate and the types of venues that would aid this. When I invited her to the get together, she wanted to know if her friend could come along. Then, while we were in the room she got all giggly and avoided eye contact and everything. She seemed a little immature so she probably didn't know how to react. She doesn't drink like that so inviting her over for drinks might not work and she seems like she would be hesitant to come over my place at this point without her friend. Any ideas?

Play it slower and ramp up your DHV.

Invite her to another get together or party the next weekend, isolate her from her friends, and make a real move. If she's coming into your room and being all giggly, she's probably thinking about h.u with you.

Start with touching, gauge her reaction, and proceed from there.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. What do you guys think about asking her to hangout in a neutral area on a weekday?

^Thats fine. As long as it's not on a Friday or Saturday, those days are reserved for your main girl and if she wants that title she's going to have to work for it.
