Ever been to cancun? How would you compare one vs the other in terms of night life
PV night life is pretty slow. There are many clubs downtown, but, since the 2008 recession, they are usually empty. I've spent countless hours going around PV and finding an attractive woman over the age of 25 is rear. Sunday nights are a big night for Mexicans to hit the downtown area. Single girls are usually pretty young, since they tend to have kids/get married at a young age.
I've been to cancun twice and it seems to be much more of a party atmosphere for american girls in their 20s. This was also, pre 2008 so it may have changed.
I've read that Guadalajara has many, many beautiful woman. It's a 4 hour drive from PV.

As far as weather they are all probably going to be pretty similar. Cabo has a lot of stuff going for it, but it is most likely the most expensive option of the three. Mazatlan has the biggest Carnival celebration in Mexico so that might be worth checking out, though I think it's mostly all locals and Mexicans so you'd need solid Spanish to do some damage there. As far as beach water/temps go, I think Cabo and PV probably have better immediate beaches than Mazatlan, but water in Cabo will be colder than the other two.
If I am wrong about any of these things, please correct me. That said, I'd pick PV out of the three.
Thanks for the info. The Carnival in Mazatlan is something to note but it's only 1-2 days so it's not going to factor much into a 2 month stay. I haven't looked at apt prices but I'm almost sure they'll be higher in Cabo too. Also, since it's detached from the mainland of Mexico it's not as accessible to mainlanders which would mean less local flavor & selection. And as you mention, the water will be colder as the current that flows down the west coast of the US will reach there, Mazatlan looks to be the warmest since it's tucked into a bay.

It has been a while but honestly I didn't really like either. Or I should say I have no desire to go back.
Cabo has good waves if you want to surf. Mazatlan probably does too.
Both are beautiful, but I thought nightlife in Cabo sucked.
I also got jumped in Puerto Vallarta and was on the wrong end of a 3 on one beatdown.
So that probably plays a role in my opinion.
G, thanks for the response. At this point, I'm ready to cross Cabo off the list. Mazatlan seems the better option of the two left since it is almost twice bigger population-wise than PV which might translate to better nightlife and selection. The one downside is that it might have more narco violence than PV since it's closer to Culiacan.
Can you provide more detail in these streetfights in PV and Playa? Are these locals or other tourists?
I've been to Playa three times already. I'll def go again but would like to try something different for now.

PV is a bit cheaper than Cabo, which is super expensive (compared to the rest) and is pretty cool, but it can get kind of small if you are staying there a while. Mazatlan is pretty big, has great food, def hot weather, and hot girls. You can go pretty expensive, but it can also be really cheap. You get more of a foriegn country in Maz as opposed to the other two.
Food, Women, bang for your buck= Mazatlan.
Thanks for the info & opinion, especially since you've been to all three. I'll say that Mazatlan's size is def giving it the upper hand right now. I also like that it has a foreign feel to it. As I mentioned above, I'm a bit concerned about any narco violence there. Can you weigh in on this? When was the last time you were there? Any recommendations on where to stay and apt listing websites? Things to do in & outside the city?

RE: Cabo vs Mazatlan vs Puerto Vallarta
Dude now your making me think. Ok so it was probably 3 years ago, maybe 2?? I stayed with a Mexican buddy originally from Maz, and we stayed at his uncles place. It was closer to the middle of the city, and although his neighborhood wasnt bad, you can get pretty sketchy depending on where you go. He had a cousin who worked at EL Cid, a resort/hotel right on the beach, I am not sure about prices, as we had most alcohol comped when we went there, but I know most people can use the pool for free, which was a blast, has a big water fountain thing, I think water slides. And I want to say you wont pay more than a dollar for beers there. Also it is right on the beach so you can go buy weed from the pedlers who have sunglasses and sht, then jump into the ocean too. The water is great, nice and warm. I dont think you will see much of a difference in violence there from PV, you can find trouble in both spots if your looking, but it is avoidable too, if your not. When I was up there 2 dif cartels had control of both places, and they wernt fighting at the time. Just dont be an idiot. Plus in a place big like Maz, you will stick out less than you would in PV which could be an advantage. But still, it all really just depends on you. While you are there, take a tour of Cervesaria Pacifico, the brewery headquarters for the beer Pacifico. Theres a lot to do there man. Much more so than PV. Sorry for the novel, hope this helps.

It's also feasible to go from Mazatlan to Guadalajara if that is what you want. I think if you go in bus it would take 8hrs maximum, maybe less.
Of these 3 places I would recommend Mazatlan, the women of the state of Sinaloa have a (well deserved) reputation of being the most beautiful girls in Mexico, along with the girls of Jalisco (but probably a little better than them), I was born in Culiacan and i can confirm this . I don't know how easy is to hook with the girls tough, Mexico is still a conservative and "social circle" country. The place is riddled with narcos also, but as long as you don't do anything abnormal it's still a safe place.

Can you post some pics so we can get an idea of what this reputation is based on?
Ok, this a site with a bias on hot girls: http://www.bellezaculichi.com/ , but still not that rare to find girls like that on the street.

In Puerto Vallarta it was with locals.
In Playa del Carmen it was a Mexican cat, but I don't know if he was local or a tourist.
Honestly both times I got really unlucky. Wrong place at wrong time.
I don't think it is common in either place.
I have a tendency to have a million to one shots work against me.
I've gotten into brush-ins with locals both in Lima & Medellin. No punches thrown in either. Both incidents involved somewhat drunk/belligerent random guys who backed down when I held my ground, squared off against them and showed that I was down to fight.
Both incidents were one-offs/isolated cases so I would like to think as you say, wrong place at the wrong time. Just the risk of being out in public where people are drunk.

Nice, it def helps to have local contacts. Of the girls you met, what would you say the ratio was of gringas vs mexicanas? I'm trying to figure out where to run daygame & nightgame - I'm thinking it's an even split between the tourist zone and the local areas.
I say this because I think the tourist zone is good for meeting mexicanas from other parts of Mexico who are staying in hotels while the local areas is a good place not only for local girls but also for visiting mexicanas who are staying with relatives and not in the hotels.
As for nightlife, are the tourist hotspots like Senor Frogs or Bora Bora worth it, especially since mexicanas are not known for drunken one night stands from clubs?
