RE: The Movie Thread

I know that this is mainly the typical hero deconstruction, but they did this in Man of Steel and Justice League already.

This story is at least honest in the alternative take of what the world would look like if Superman was inherently evil from the beginning. I think that we would be fucked especially if he was the only one.

---------

And no surprise about the moon landing being portrayed in negative light. Those times were incredibly optimistic and for lack of a better word - happy. The happiness surveys all backed it up. Even the architecture and furniture was futuristic, because people were excited and positive about the future. But you can't have that, because we all know that WHITE MAN BAD.

------------
That Sorry to Bother you movie likely has still some propaganda in it, but it looks funny, innovative and well-made and that is how they used to do shit in the past.

RE: The Movie Thread
First Man felt like a eulogy in a cold church, the shaky cam is god awful (and this is coming from someone who actually likes that style) the moon landing itself is actually pretty great, but almost feels like an apology for the 2 plus preceding hours of kitchen sink drama. Armstrong wasn't nearly as dour in reality and actually enjoyed flying.

I enjoyed Corey Stoll and Kyle Chandler (as usual) even if they were given fuck all to do.

The highpoint, almost made it worth it and they use the cinema verite style sensibly here, not shoved up a nostril:

Video RE: The Movie Thread
Finally broke down last week and downloaded some new movies for the first time in months.

Mile 22: It wasn't really high up on my radar until I saw it get the nod of approval from a few guys in this thread. All in all its a solid mindless shoot'em up movie with enough story and action to keep you interested. Certainly worth a watch if you just wanna watch a decent action flick.

The Predator 2018: You know this movie was not as bad as I was expecting. Of course it couldn't hold the originals jockstrap but for a movie in this day and age it was decent enough. There were a few comedic moments that hit the mark. The acting wasn't Oscar worthy but it was fine for a silly take on the Predator series.... if you go into the movie hoping to see the Predator series done justice, you're gonna be disappointed. But if you go into it just wanting to kill a few hours and be mildly entertained Predator has got your back. There is a very strange "autism is the future" angle in the movie thats kind of baffling but all in all I enjoyed watching it.

Halloween 2018: Same things I said about the Predator apply here. This is not the Halloween series done justice but that really should surprise anyone about modern dumbed down cinema. In my opinion this is a solid slasher film for the current era. One BIG misstep I took away from this was not showing them hot teenage titties. Two of the younger female actresses clearly have nice racks but sadly they never make a cameo. This may seem like a thirsty complaint however your boy Uncle Cr33pin is old enough to remember the slashers from the 80s.... before internet porn 80's slasher flicks were one of the mainstream ways to see hot young perky tits. It's just part of the genre. Seeing these clearly top heavy hoes in the new Halloween never reveal their gift.. just felt like a tease and wasted opportunity.

I don’t even think it’s worth a download. Half of the movie was of that black chick singing. what the fuck? very disappointing, 3/10

I was a fan of the film as well, but also fond it problematic (Soy word I know, but Idk I think it fits). The least of the films issues though was the lack of T&A.

I just finished watching this.

Given the fun-poking of White men (putting on a white voice generates better sales) and the casting of the main protagonist, I assumed it was directed by the same guy that directed “Get Out”. Not so, was a directorial debut.

Notwithstanding, I enjoyed most of this movie. They did a lot with the very small budget. Third act could have been tightened up though.

Disappointing... I actually liked "Unbreakable" (apparently that puts me in the minority).

RE: The Movie Thread
I just saw that there is a 2018 movie called "Overboard". Intrigued, I looked it up and lo and behold, it is basically the same plot as the 1987 film of the same name with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, but hilariously, the gender roles have been switched!

1987: Kurt Russell, handyman, widower, father to 4 sons, does a job for insufferable rich bitch Goldie who stiffs him on the bill. Goldie gets amnesia, Kurt convinces everyone she's his wife, she turns into a model housewife and they become a family (Goldie's erstwhile fiance can't believe his luck and is partying it up). Incredibly, this lump of 80's cheeze filled with slapstick gags comes across as a model of wholesomeness.

2018: Some blonde basic bint is working hard while studying to become a nurse, rich Mexican guy blabla something something; go-grrl current-year womyn power hilarity ensues. I couldn't even make it through watching the entire trailer.

I didnt mind Glass. There were a few disappointing parts, but I enjoyed the story and didnt mine the slow pace. It was maybe a 6.5 for me, I think I'll watch it again when it comes out on dvd. I respect that they tried to do something different with this movie, and it did pay off more than it missed the mark I thought. James McAvoy is incredible. If you didnt like BOTH Split and Unbreakable though, I wouldnt bother.

Shamadingdong has done soo many terrible movies, that he has just an awful track record. Split wasn't so bad and Village was his last somewhat decent flic. But he had so many butt-stupid duds and slaughtered/nuked the Airbender franchise, that it's amazing for him to get decent work. Seems that he actually managed to bomb another movie when given 3 decent actors and actually 3 characters which were good. But that's Shamadingdong to you. They should have picked the 3 characters and gone more action - something that he cannot do. He is the "slow surprising mystery" kind of guy and nothing else. Those characters were already revealed so you would have to do something decent with them - Glass having a genius masterplan to take over the world or something, but I am sure it's stupid and boring.

I don't think he is being offered alot of work, he actually funded Split and Glass himself.

I'll PM you my review. Last time I posted it here I was bombarded with TLDR replies and I couldn't blame people... I really break the film down - How it applies to the #metoo movement, the somewhat irksome feminist themes and its depiction of PTSD.

I would recommend The Talented Mr. Ripley to you if you haven't watched it?

RE: The Movie Thread
God - that movie Glass by Shamadingdong is insanely bad.

Spoilers....

It's not that it's badly shot, the actors are great of course, but the entire plot and the ending is just fucking stupid.

Also the action is overwhelming and the fucking scenes are hardly more than what could have happened if 2 strongmen are fighting. And what the fuck with that stupid 10.000 year old order that supposedly kills off all the superhero-supervillain "mutants"? And Bruce Willis' character gets drowned in a puddle while the bitch sits next to him and his fucking son is a few meters off in the parking lot? What the fuck was he doing while his dad was drowned in a puddle?

Oh - and Glass feigning to be catatonic for 15 years? Glass is supposed to be a super-genius. He should have had a plan C to get out of prison 5 days after the last movie - living on some island and scheming to take over the world, not hiding pills and sitting in an insane asylum.

I know that Shamadingdong has a thing of wanting to "make things realistic" and that is why he re-engineered the Airbender universe:

Yeah - it will be much more realistic if a bunch of dudes are doing some Tai-Chi dance moves before they move some earth by magic.

And the same goes for this shit - it was dumb. Of course the movie was shot in a boring uneventful way mitigated by the good actors and the indie-vibe. However the story was just dumb and the action scenes should have been much much better.

But hey - that shit cost 20 mio. $, likely 20 mio. $ marketing budget and will make over 100 mio. $ despite being shit, so congrats to him for convincing a bunch of good actors to do that crap.

Shamadingdong is not without talent, but he needs to have a shitlord buddy next to him who will slap the shit out of him whenever he comes up with an idea that too many people tell him is genius.

RE: The Movie Thread
Rewatched a film from 1999, the Talented Mr. Ripley, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Gwynett Paltrow.

Damon is a poor kid who is talented at assimilating. The father of a rich kid mistakes him for a rich kid and hires him to go to Europe and convince his son to return home. He goes there, meets him, and ends up moving in with him. I don't want to give too much away, but there is a murder and Damon ends up having to assume the rich kid's identity.

Besides being an entertaining film, the film is interesting for how Damon learns to switch between two worlds with slight adjustments to his wardrobe and grooming and demeanor. All it really takes is a lot of confidence and some social proof. Social proof here is delivered by the crest on a borrowed jacket, his hotel, or the right acquaintance.

Agreed. He’s a solid actor and chooses great projects. 25th hour went under the radar for some reason, it’s an all time great though. The script was written by the creator of the Game of Thrones TV series, David Benioff, so no surprise it is so good.
