RE: The Movie Thread
A few observations from page 62;

Spider-Man was very dear to me as a kid. The Miles Morales thing doesn't exist for me.

Aquaman? I honestly don't think I can sit through any more Superhero films. I've done my bit and watched them all now, apart from Black Pander and Aquaman. I've done more than enough, that's the finish. Superhero stuff works best in comics, the old comics.

Same for Bumblebee. I've given the Transformers franchise more than enough chances over the years. In return they haven't delivered once.

I love Clint. But he looks so old now, it just makes me sad and wistful for his glory days. I'll still watch Mule though.

Watched Birdbox on Netflix. SPOILERS......

It was ok, but the hype is undoubtedly manufactured. I hated how they drove to a supermarket after TEOTWAWKI but didn't stay there! Every prepper knows your average supermarket will feed a person for 50 years. I liked the John Malkovich character best. They characterised him as a Trump supporter ("Let's make 'The End Of The World' great again!") so I initially thought the SJW cunts were up to their usual tricks and making the unseen 'monster' out to be Trumpism! But no, it turns out to be Social Media, which is fair enough. I guessed the denouement with the blind folks from virtually the beginning.

Talking of Halloween, I watched another old John Carpenter film on Blu Ray; The Fog. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, and it's aged quite well. Only thing was, I remember it being horrific and gory. It's not! Not a drop of blood gets spilled and the kill-count can be counted on one hand. How simple those times were though; Male protagonist picks up a hitch-hiking Jamie-Lee Curtis, fucks her, takes her on an adventure against zombie pirates, all in 24 hours.

When I watched Westworld, it occurred to me that it was the perfect depiction of how Hollywood views their audience.

We all know you want sex and violence and we also know you can't admit it, so we will offer you sex and violence but with a whole bunch of rationalizations built right in. You can pretend you are engaged in a game, you can pretend you are getting close to someone in a deep way, or you can just sit back and enjoy the orgy of sex and violence.

This attitude is shown not only in the arcs of the characters who arrive as guests at Westworld, but also the audience watching it.

Like, we all know you want to see these actresses naked, but you aren't really seeing actresses naked, you are just watching a behind the scenes glimpse of technicians debriefing robots.

'Bad Times at the El Royale' perfectly embodies this ethos. The pretend plot that all of the chaos hangs on is paper thin, and we as an audience can pretend we are just enjoying a story.

So let the games begin. Women who are tougher than the men blowing the men away and stabbing them, voyeurism out the wazoo, killing machine psycho on the loose, pedophilic cult leader exerting power over normies, and if all this makes you feel guilty, we will give you one character to root for, a black woman, it is 2018 after all, and guess what she sings! She has soul!

So while you enjoy all the ultra violence, you can pretend to root for her.

And we will load the cast with compelling and even iconic actors and shoot the whole thing beautifully, and throw in a manic pixie dream girl for you to lust after while pretending to care about her welfare.

As a bonus, she might be underage, but we don't tell you for sure, so imagine the frissony tingles of that!

A compelling movie that is rotten to the core and has contempt for the audience.

In other words, a standard Hollywood movie.

“The greatest burden a child must bear is the unlived life of its parents.”

Its an ok film to watch, but I wouldn't pay for it.

Its a bit on the nose with the 'white guy bad, black girl good' story-line. It also tries to make the white girls seem sympathetic even as one straight up murders an FBI agent who was trying to rescue one of them.

And the third act is entirely about Chris Hemsworth's abs being shoehorned into the starring role to bring in female viewers.

I give it 6/10, mainly for some cool subplots (like the concierge's).

Birdcage propaganda is far more reaching than it seems, but that is natural nowadays:

You get scores of movies now with the critics giving a shitpiece 80-95% while the public gives it 20-40% ratings, because their main point is either anti-White, anti-Western, SJW-points agenda and there is nothing redeeming about the movie, but that piece of shit still gets a rating beyond Citizen Kane by the stupid shills.

Watched Mission Impossible: Fallout

Fantastic action movie. In the age of CGI everything, this movie is an enormous breath of fresh air. Not going to get into the specific scenes but when you realize Cruise is really doing the stunts, often times with minimal/no safety precautions, you can't help but get sucked into the moment.

Gripping is a word people often use to describe movies. THIS movie was gripping.

Story is serviceable. Nothing amazing or new.

Go watch some of the behind the scenes stunt videos on YouTube after the film. Tom Cruise is the real MVP. Truly dedicated to his craft of entertaining people.

I would place these recently viewed films in the "worth a watch" category:

1) "Mile 22" (2018) with Mark Wahlberg.

2) "The Good Neighbor" (2016) with James Caan.

I second the recommendation for Mile 22. That was a solid action flick, with solid gun fights, car chases and Kung fu. Also, an unexpected ending that probably explains why SJW reviewers gave it awful reviews.

Small things, I always love the title sequence to these films. I know its a homage to the original TV series. God they're so much better edited, directed and high energy than Bond has been since Casino Royale (which it is one of my favourite films ever).

The second one directed by John Woo is so maligned.

Its so of its time and different to the one before and the ones after, but dear lord this is incredible, two comments sum it up:4

4:10 if I had seen this in theaters, I would have stood up and applauded. Holy shit, that was unbelievable. Action movies nowadays aren't this cool.

haha I saw it in 2000 in the cinema. Blew me away. They knew how to make a proper bloke movie back then. Fuck physics and ammo count and all that shite. As long as things are blowing up and people are dying it'll be good

Wow - Aquaman about to cross 1 bio. $.

Who would have thought that it works to cut down the propaganda, put up a masculine hero and a hot babe and people go watch it?

And China made almost 300 mio. $ - more than in the US. If you win in that market, you really win.

Reminds me that Solo was out of China in a week and Social Justice Star Wars VIII made some 25 mio. $ - heh.

And Marvel is going to tank soon as well - the worst is yet to come with Captain Marvel, then Squirrel Girl and then Muslim disgusting-powers Ms Marvel. The social justice crew is coming - Disney needs to ruin the Marvel franchise too after it had destroyed Star Wars.

Everything is going to get problematic at Marvel.

Capeshit always does well in China. Chinese don't get or understand 'serious' Western films. They find them too "boring." Basically if it doesn't feature constant explosions or manchildren flying around in capes, it won't do well in China.

E.g. Bladerunner 2049 flopped hard in China. Now they're not ever going to attempt to release any more meaningful or deep Western movies there.

This is also why Hollywood is currently churning out capeturd after capeturd, to milk the Chinese market.

I loathe most Hollywood comedies, but chose to watch "Tag" because of the cast (Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, etc.). A very decent over-the-top comedy.

RE: The Movie Thread
Mixed bag of movies watched last week;

Trainspotting 2 (T2) on Netflix.

It was a mistake to go back to the well for this one. The original was never as clever as it thought it was, but won through by capturing the zeitgeist of the times. This one just seemed unlikely and lacked authenticity. Multi-millionaire actors pretending to be penniless smack-heads just irritates. My mind wandered so much towards the end that I actually missed the last 15 minutes and found myself tidying up instead! Heavily infected with SJW content by the way.

Next was the Equalizer 2.

Denzel is great in the role, and deserves better. Hits every trope and cliche along the way, but enjoyable nonetheless. I almost wish they played it a lot straighter though and went down the serious thriller route, rather than superhero action-man. Mild to moderate SJW content throughout.

Last, was Sergio Leone's 'Once Upon a Time in The West'.

My God. Haven't seen this since I was a kid, and maybe then not all the way through properly (it's long and deliciously slow). Movies like this just get better as you age with them. The first hour may be confusing, but there's plenty to look at and drink in until the second half explains all.

Henry Fonda, famously cast against type, is chilling as the child-killing bad guy, Frank. Charles Bronson stands in for Eastwood as the harmonica playing gunman. Claudia Cardinale looks stunning as the heroine.

In fact, watching Claudia Cardinale in one scene, I was struck at just why this move would never, ever be made today. Just read this and imagine Hollywood green-lighting such a script amid current #Metoo hysteria!;

Quote:(The heroine is alone with a known killer and suspects (along with the audience) that she is about to be raped (she isn't);

Jill: If you want to, you can lay me over the table and amuse yourself. And even call in your men. Well. No woman ever died from that. When you're finished, all I'll need will be a tub of boiling water, and I'll be exactly what I was before - with just another filthy memory.

No SJW content detected.

Agreed. I saw it on IMAX a few nights ago and it was visually insane. I really enjoyed and appreciated the movie for the reasons you stated, I didn’t pick up on any agenda or proganda except maybe a little “we shouldn’t throw trash in the ocean” which I can get down with.

Bad Times at the El Royale
It's very similar to Tarantino films. Mystery characters with hidden past together with a revealing ending. It's not superb but above average. It's worth a download Smile

I enjoyed "The Vanishing." Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan star. Set in 1900, based on a true story. 6-month relief boat arrives on Flannan Island to discover the three Scottish lighthouse keepers missing. They were never found.

The plot is based on a theory about what might have happened. Each guy has his own flaws and seeks to deal with the situation differently. Gerard Butler's performance as a guy going slowly insane was pretty good, and I always enjoy Peter Mullan.

RE: The Movie Thread
I just saw First Man, thankfully without forking any money over to do it. Man, what a disappointing film.

What might one expect to get from a movie about what is arguably man's greatest achievement to date, the moon landings? Awe and inspiration spring to mind, but the people who made this movie decided to go in an altogether different direction. What we get instead is sadness, depression, and existential angst. If I had to describe this film in only one word it would undoubtedly be dispiriting.

This isn't so much a movie about the moon landings as it is a movie about Ryan Gosling moping over his dead daughter with occasional rude interruptions by some space related shit. This is the facial expression the protagonist carries almost invariably throughout the whole miserable 2 and a half hours:

[Image: screen-shot-2018-08-30-at-12-25-26-15356...size=480:*]

In fact the entire cast seems to be wholly unexcited by the endeavor at hand. Everyone is glum and downcast, and the impression we get is that the Apollo program was some dreary, gloomy slog. The coolness factor is nil. In fact, the closest we ever get to any kind of "rousing" soundtrack is when an angry black activist complains about insufficient gibs via a stirring rendition of "Whitey on the Moon" slam-poetry to what sounds like urban youths beating makeshift drums made from empty plastic buckets. You'd be forgiven for thinking the point of this movie is not as an homage to man's greatest achievement, but as a subtle propaganda piece to tear down "whitey's" moondoogle by making it seem as unsexy and unappealing as possible, Culture-of-Critique style.

But I mean it's the current year, so what do we expect, right? That the producers would serve a heaping ladle of cultural rot was an absolute given, which is the reason I avoided seeing this, like every other movie, in theaters. I'm not one to willingly pay for the rope that will be used to hang me. I did download the movie, however, in hopes of some cool visuals since I've always been a space buff. Here too the film was a massive let-down.

It was all shaky-cam and blurry closeups. Inexplicably, rather than show third-person views of the action, the overwhelming majority of footage was displayed first-person through tiny portholes or as if from cameras mounted to the hulls of the craft. It was incredibly frustrating watching Gosling's blurry face and equally blurry views of the windows and instrument panels waiting for the zoomed out views of what was happening that never came. It was like watching one of those micro-budget Blair-Witch type crap, not a major motion picture that was suggested to be watched in IMAX! Even the few precious minutes on the lunar surface were utterly ruined by alternating every few seconds of lunar footage with flashbacks of dead-girl-happily-running-on-grass, completely taking you out of the moment.

Of the film's 150 minutes, around 5 were spent on the moon and the only thing that happened there were dead girl flashbacks culminating with Gosling bursting into tears over dead-girl and throwing her necklace into a crater, followed immediately by the lunar ascent module hastily going back to lunar orbit. Underwhelming is an understatement.

The contrast between this film and Apollo 13 could not be any starker, despite the fact the latter was a failure and Apollo 11 a resounding success. Not only is 13 an exciting and inspiring film, but it's much more visually satisfying as well, which is incredible given that it was filmed in 1995 and didn't even have the backdrop of the Moon as a prop. If you haven't watched Apollo 13 I suggest you watch it shortly after seeing First Man to understand just how purposefully demoralizing First Man was made to be.

PS: In case you were wondering, yes, the main female character playing Gosling's wife is indeed a prime 2018 vintage of insufferable rancid white bitch. How else could it be!

RE: The Movie Thread
I loathe most comedies, but "Sorry To Bother You" is a brilliant and wildly different dark comedy. The trailer does not adequately prepare you for this outrageously unique film, which involves a shockingly dark mind-bending plot twist. LMAO.
