Funny you mentioned that, I'm beginning to get the same feeling. Hot but not the easiest. That's Balkans for you.

I just came back from Novi Sad. I liked it much more than Belgrade.

The NS logistics are much better than Belgrade. Most of the nightlife is around the central square and the city is relatively small, allowing you to walk pretty much everywhere. But I can't do more than a week at a time in that city as it's way too small.

Ok so time to move on from my current wintery spot onto pastures new. Do we have any more data on Serbia? Belgrade in particular.

FYI I have a couple of months.

1. Should I spend more time in Novi sad than Belgrade?
2. Best Nightclub recommendations (Bearing in mind this is winter time so none of the river clubs will be open). From what I understand all the clubs are now located downtown.
3. Thoughts on daytime approaches?... Are the plenty of girls walking around in the day?... are the receptive?

On another note I want to get your guys thoughts on other considerations I should make whilst in central Europe. In my current spot easily the hottest girls I have encountered are Slovakian, however I find their character very somber. So I think I have ruled that one out entirely. Wise choice?
This leads me to my next question...
Would I be a fool to skip Hungary, Romania or Croatia (Zagreb) in favour for spending all my time in Serbia? The reason I ask is because I don't really have any intention of returning to this part of the world anytime soon.

From what i understand Novi Sad is a university town, so should be good during the school year. Belgrade is high on my list and was voted party capital of Europe if not the world.
Hungary is nice as in Budapest, the talent falls off and this has been confirmed from many sources. The positive is that it is cheap to rent a place there unlike Zagreb, which is also a great city.
Romania has some real sexy ladies and if you have time I would imagine it would be worth spending some time there, I know some dancers there so perhaps you could check them out for me.

I think the girls are hotter in Belgrade than Novi Sad. Novi Sad is not a bad place, it just doesn't have the pulse of Belgrade - plus MUCH few nightlife options.

The thing about Belgrade is that the girls are hot and its an interesting and friendly culture. I can't say I find Romanian culture or Bulgarian culture as becoming and interesting.

Plus, these guys really know how to party.

Bulgarian culture is interesting because they play the clarino a lot. In this case however they play the saxophone which peculiarly sounds like a clarino.Admire the tender touch of the Bulgarian female lips on the saxophone.

I'm here for a few days so will report back. So far the people here are really friendly, even though they know I'm American. Taxi driver was great and really informative, and all the service I've had so far has been pretty good - noticeably better than in Russia for example. Laid back vibe too, but in a 'we like to have fun & nothing really bothers us' kinda way.

Not really seen too many stunners yet but it's been raining all day so I'm hoping tomorrow clears up and there are some girls out. We'll see. So far the tall, leggy brunette types stand out the most and are the predominate species here as this and other threads have pointed out.

^^ Extremely friendly people Akula. Agreed. But not really a ONS culture. Women prefer local guys all the way..and even the biggest local players aren't getting ONS, but shags primarily through social circle or meet/go on a date type situations.

Overall, fun place & I miss it!

Back in 2006 I can say there definitely were *some* local girls who preferred foreign guys. I remember a girl I dated in Belgrade told me a story of how some local guys pretended to be foreign with her and her friend. But that was a while back, maybe times have changed. brosemite sounds like you had a different experience, maybe you can share

Akula, do you like Mexican food, maybe you can us let know if this place is good? Back in 2006, the only Mexican restaurant I found was serving burritos with mushrooms, potatoes and olives, not exactly what I was hoping for.

I'm a little worried about the lack of ONS culture here (and the other factors you mention) as I only have a few days to work any magic. If it's remotely like Russia here I'd probably need to do at least 1-2 dates to get anywhere and that's not likely given my short timeframe. In any case let's see what happens, just going to have fun and do my best and try out more daygame.

ONS culture is weak in Serbia. Social Circles are important, but pulling girls from the club solo should not be a problem. Get their numbers, meet them, speed things up, they know what you are up to. Unfortunately, that hipsterish, liberal fancy type of girls will probably be more open to strangers. "Traditional" girls are actually as corrupted, but more flaky, and like to be treated as princesses which they are not, since majority of them live in commie blocks and wear nike sneakers during the day.

I'm heading to belgrade this weekend. As a serbian i can say that ONS culture is indeed weak.

but they will talk to you, and getting numbers shouldn't be a problem.

My Russian is at the intermediate level, so I'll use it when I can. Already was speaking with the taxi driver in Russian and he was pretty interesting and helpful.

From living in Russia there's a 'special relationship' between the two countries at least from the Russian perspective (Bratya etc.)

ONS culture weak in Moscow too so maybe I'll be pretty comfortable with the vibe here.

Strahinjica Bana is a good place for bars and terrasses. There's an outdoor restaurant/shop called "Supermarket" there that is good for breakfast and general morning-after cocktailing.

There's a fairly big underground/secret/speakeasy-type scene there as well. One of these is called "World Travelers' Club," and it's located in the basement of an apartment block at 7 Bulevar Despota Stefana. It's a hipstery scene and you'll think, upon entering the building, that you're in the wrong place. You're not. Just find your way downstairs.

Serbian guys have a rep on this forum as being these sort of stone-faced, hulking ubermenschen. Maybe they trend that way a bit — Slavic guys do like to keep a poker-face — but it's hardly as exaggerated as it can sometimes seem on RVF.

Relations between Serbs and Russians are close and amicable, regardless of politics. It has to do with history and religion mostly, but was in recent times fueled further by conflicting position of Serbia with the west which brought disillusionment with Europe and west in general. Believe it or not, during communism, people were much more friendlier and open to what came from the west.

Regardless, western culture and consumerism is heavily present in Serbia, make no mistake about that. People usually write their nationalist anti-American attitudes directly from their Apple Iphone 5.

Headed down to Strahinica Bana tonight - not expecting much but who knows. Pastis down there looks good. Will check out the little pedestrian street called Skadarilja too.

First impressions of this place:

-lot of people here speak English more so than in Russia
-way cheaper than Moscow (duh). Like 2x to 3x cheaper. Beers are like $1.50 - $3 and food is pretty cheap too. Had a full meal and coffee for $10 near the center earlier
-Serbian is probably the most similar langauge to Russia among the Slavic nations I’ve visited. They all seem to understand my Russian somewhat. I can figure out a lot of the anglicized words too even without Cyrillic. BTW it's crazy that they went away from Cyrillic under Tito - it's almost harder for me to understand the transliterated words than the old school Cyrillic. Wtf why did they do that?
-Seen a few but not many true stunners but again been raining all day so nobody showing any skin
-Lots of 6-7s with great bodies running around - way moreso than in the US; I'd say the bodies are better than the faces here, but faces still ok
-if you like brunette girls wearing tight jeans with great asses and long legs this is your place!
-not really seen any real fatties; in fact not sure i’ve seen any except one girl who was in spandex who regardless still had a bubble butt
-as has been said, mostly brunettes here few blondes
-girls here are feminine, way moreso than in the US/UK (obviously). Don’t dress as girly as in Russia but still dress nicely and wear tight jeans and boots. Nowhere near as many high heels and makeup as in Russia though
-Only opened one girl so far (I'm an amateur daygamer) and had ok rapport (she was receptive, but busy so she took off quick) Feels like they are open though, nobody really doing much gaming from what I saw

Overall, good first impressions. Need to do some more work before I can compare to Russia.

Tito brought both Cyrillic and Latin script to be learned at schools in Serbia and Croatia. However, even during Tito, in practice, Cyrillic was used in Serbia and Latin in Croatia. Wider use of Latin script has to do with introduction of capitalism, advertising and breakthrough of foreign languages.

With introduction of more nationalist and traditionalist ideas recently, people are now struggling to reinforce Cyrillic in everyday life (Cyrillic is widely and almost exclusively used in papers written by institutions etc.)

I write Serbian exclusively in Cyrillic script, since Latin script is an imported and not so perfect way of writing it, because of diacritics and double-symbol letters.
