Update: Oldie and ladyboy: I met my "oldish" date at a Starbucks today. She turned out to be in great shape and quite wealthy as far as I could tell. @Asaxon - Keep em coming it is always fun to hear the stories of a newbie in thailand. We have all been there at some point.

It gets way easier with time to pick out ladyboys. You will get a 6th sense about it after a while. Same goes for picking out working girls. It becomes obvious after while. Try to not let the paranoia get to you.

When in doubt just ask. If she/he is a ladyboy chances are they will admit to it. There are plenty of guys in thailand into the ladyboy thing so they don't need to trick guys. Must be a cultural thing in Thailand....seems to me the right time would be almost immediately after you showed interest. After you kissed and reached down to grab her pussy and found a penis....well it would be pretty easy to justify pounding the crap out of them. hahaha

Update: I took a long walk around Sukhumvit soi 3, soi 4 late last night, just looking at the typical sexpat establishments and freelancers. Yeah....every guy that I know that was ever mugged in Cali was walking around at night after drinking or haled a cab from avenida sexta at night.

Another problem with my friend from Miami is he is not the type to hand over his wallet that easily which would cause things to escalate fast in a confrontation.

He almost went to blows with a taxista that over charged him by about 2 dollars. I finally had to step in and say "Did you hear what the taxista just said on his radio" and he says "no". @Asaxon - RioNomad speaks the truth. You are being to paranoid about things. In my several years of living in BKK and traveling around Thailand I have never once been drugged or physically assaulted. But of course I am not taking the linebacker ladyboys of Nana home either. Just use some street smarts that you obviously have if you lived in Rio but try and relax, these girls are not all out to get you.

Do take some precaution with your hotel room. Go ahead and lock up your laptop/passport/money and things of value or at least hide them some where in the room. No one is going to physically beat you up, but you leave 5,000 baht laying on the table and it could be tempting. Just be wise.

Are you going out to clubs at night? Sounds like you are mostly doing online game. I promise if you go out you will see some fine ass girls that are way better then what you are finding online. Hit up RCA, get in any taxi and just say RCA and they will know what you are talking about.

Update: I met another online girl at the BTS station to go to the "river festival".
