I'm a bit of a romanticist, and have had a long time fantasy of traveling deep into Russia by train. I'd buck up for a sleeper cabin, and take a picnic basket full of meat, cheese, bread, borscht, and plenty of vodka. I'd find girls on the train and invite them for a decent dinner, bang them, and see them off at their stop. As girls are getting on and off, you could bang several on the trip.

Of course, I don't know if they have sleeper cabins or if even hot girls even take the trains.

I imagine Russia is similar to Ukraine when it comes to trains. They had private cabins in some of the overnight trains I took. Expensive but you could also bribe someone on the train to change cabins.

Yeah, train travel is pretty common and you see some hot girls on there. Normal cabins were four people to a cabin. People eating food and getting drunk was common. They sold beer on the trains as well. I don't remember if they sold vodka.

You can buy out a compartment, if it has 4 berths you buy all of them. I recommend it. Popular trains can sell out weeks or months in advance, for instance around New Years to/from popular destinations.

You can buy tickets for a two person cabin on Russian trains so if you want privacy you can do that. Expect to pay at least a 100 dollar for even a very short ride.

I guess an overnight train would cost you about 250 bucks at minimum. Not worth it, and do you really want an unwashed girl in your cabin?

I spend about 12 days on Russian and Kazakhstan trains. If you're not a traveler/backpacker do not go on Russian trains especially when you're an American used to lots of luxury. Russian trains are not for you.

Do you want experience the real Russia and its culture then by all means take the train. It's the fastest way to speed up on all things Russia.
Expect anything in the range from old wrinkly grandma's mumbling jibberish at you and offering you funny looking food, meeting hot girls, people trying to speak to you knowing only the word "hello" to trying to avoid fights with groups of drunken guys.

Russian trains are well set up for game: all compartments are mixed sex so you end up sharing long journeys with women. In the day time passengers stand in the coridoors chatting and gazing out the window so you just have to walk the length of the train and you get talking to people. Trains have restaurant cars serving alcohol so you can insta-date to the restaurant car. Every carriage has a Provodnitsa who looks after you,stokes the samovar etc. Sometimes you can be lucky and get a hot one - she has her own private bedroom. Even if you only end up sharing with a babushka in your compartment,by tbe time you've shared your drink and food with her for a couple days you'll have bonded to the point where she will want to introduce you to her granddaughter when you reach your destination. Fuck planes,trains are the way to go in the FSU.

One way Moscow-Vladivostok is £135 GBP in third class open wagon. ( when I checked the live ticket site a minute ago ). A little bit more in a four birth. Depends on availability though.

Great idea I like the idea of setting up a house in a cool city (more women who are down to party). With a small group you could easily build a decent social circle and groupy following. House parties etc would be an awesome way to get the word out there are some cool guys in town and an easy way to meet new faces.
I am always solo which means I have to be really tactical about meeting women. I think being part of a group of guys could open up a whole new world of possibilities with greater access to hotter girls.

Just read the whole article. Although layed on a bit thick it was pretty accurate, except for the named price which is utter nonsense. I paid between 15 and 40 dollars for most single rides in 2009.

Anyone thinking of taking a train in Russia should read this article first and then imagine multiple days of this.

Me, my girlfriend, and her mother bought out a 4-place roomette for an overnight trip through Ukraine. You can choose to almost completely cut yourself off from people in neighboring rooms, unless of course they're bellowing at the top of their lungs. You have a locking door. We were well stocked with food and movies. It was quite pleasant, you are not at all exposed to low level peasant drunks if you don't want to be.

One trip I did have a problem with was a trip in winter. They sealed the windows, and there was some kind of coal? heater that filled the air with particulates by my admittedly high standards. I can't tolerate highly polluted air, and sort of caught a cold.

God! I wish this was three years ago But, maybe I can push back the finish line a little. Sounds like an adventure of a lifetime.

I will be floating around EE / Russian / Ukraine in Spring for a couple months. I will be living out of the DR most of next year. Could I be tempted to live out my adolescent desires in brand new RUSSIAN turf? Oh yea. I don't think you could go wrong picking any city that is deep off the beaten track.

I'm not going to take the train if I can avoid it simply for time reasons. I don't have any romantic notions. As for accommodations, I don't think Playboy Mansion on the Volga is what's going to work. I think we know the reality of the game. The important thing is that we have members in the same city living close to each other, but otherwise I think it's going to be single occupancy apartments and maybe double occupancy for people on a tighter budget. If it's a bunch of dudes living together it just turns into some kind of pseudo-hostel and there will be too much incentive to just get drunk with the boys, cockblocking, etc. Obviously camaraderie and hanging out together is important, but the main reason we're doing this is to help each other smash fine ladies and live the good life (to the extent it's possible in such a place), not do shots until 3 am.
