Interesting.

I think this should be on lifestyle section so people interested in making money can see it.

patron,

Great info.

I've been trolling that dayworker site/link to passed out and have a couple of questions, mainly on certifications.

The most common ones I saw (inaddition to STWC that you mentioned) were: OOW and ENG1. Any info on legit places to get those certifications.

Also for the $120-$180 per week rent is that in the crewhouse? Do you need to be a part of the crew to stay at the crewhouse? Any specific recommendations, or is just google search?

$3k in tips per person in a week? also, what are the downsides to this type of job? perhaps having to deal with bratty personalities? does the crew have a chance with the lady guests or are they off limits by rule?

What kind of appetite is there for someone with no boating experience for this type of position, assuming you get certified and whatever?

Average pay for a dayworker. $15 hour cash

I worked on something similar in New Zealand. Worked long 18hr days. Sure it was an exotic location but I eventually got sick of getting screamed at by my boss, sweating my ass off while watching people on holiday and getting treated like rubbish. 3 people quit the same day as me- heard later they had already found more to take our place within an hour. That said it is a fun lifestyle and I got some girls out of it and a few epic nights out between cruises. I probably picked a bad boat but I have similar stories so I am a little catious about this datasheet...

You have picked all the best parts of a job (and on one of the best boats to work on ) and skipped any of the not so glamorous details...

Can you provide some decent data on the chances of landing such a job/ the rate and chances of promotion/ working conditions/ your background and how you got hired etc.

'Gmac, you are right, no more data sheets from me. I am trying to help this forum. '

Thanks- I am glad you are posting. It is something I might look into for a couple of months sometime but Gmac and I are just asking for some more detailed info. Not saying that what you describe is not true- I am sure it is, but if you are claiming 'best datasheet' provide some more data and break it down. All you have right now is a list of the perks and a couple of vague pointers.

Not trying to be negative but would want some more detailed info before I felt like I had a solid game plan.

I applied for a deckhand job on a cruise ship and talked to someone from the company today. I'm going in for an interview this week. Its a 3 month position and goes all around the country with training starting next month. He said its 12 hour days and minimum of $700 every week. Not bad to travel around and check out the country from a ship Banana cant be any harder or worse than my old oil job. Maybe ill go out to Florida after I get some experience.

I got the deck hand job. A girl leaving before I went in told me her sister was a deck hand for the company and the crew would go clubbing and party when they ported. Better be some good looking women in the crew.

Congrats. Should be an interesting experience.

Do they have a policy about crew interactions with cruise guests? Depending on the type of cruise, some of these cruises are full of milfs with nothing to do but drink and fuck. All women love to fuck on a cruise or any ship.

They just said to be friendly to the passengers and not address them by their first name. It should definetly be interesting with people from all over the country working on the ship. They hire crew members from here, Orlando, Portland, Seattle, who knows where else.

I knew a guy that was an assistant conductor on Amtrak.

Got laid all the time in the sleepers and made pretty good money off tips.

Seems kinda comparable.

RE: Best Data Sheet: Making Money, Partying, Girls, Etc
For men, if you are looking for one of the higher paying jobs, such as Captain, 1st mate, Chief engineer, Engineer, you will require certification if the yacht is for charter or is a larger yacht and you must be a US citizen on US flagged yachts. Most yachts outside the US and many that call in port there are red flagged boats meaning they are registered in a country that observes UK MCA(Maritime and Coastguard Agency) regulations and you will therefore have to be certified by them for the above positions. The reason most charter and larger yachts are regulated by these agencies is due to insurance.
There are however many other positions on board that only require STCW 95 or 2010. Those that can pay well are Chef and Stewardess. Deckhands and Oilers(non certified engineers) can get their education paid for sometimes if they show a willingness to stick with their yacht or can pay to take classes to get certification. On charter yachts pay can be small sometimes but tips can be huge. $10,000/month is not uncommon, more for the top guys usually.
For those that have yachting experience, but no certifications, you can take short classes and test into certification like I did. Engineers are still the most in demand and well paid.

RE: Best Data Sheet: Making Money, Partying, Girls, Etc
This is the second datasheet on Yachting I've read now and I think i really want to go for it.

I'll give a little background info on myself. I'm 18, living with parents in a small town near London. I finished school at 16 and I did a Engineering level 3 btec course (its not worth much at all, i still know fuck all about engineering). I left that because i did not enjoy engineering. I then did a year of Graphic Design course (lvl 3 btec graphic design) which again was a waste of time although i gained some photoshop skills and from that course learned that i definitely dont want to go into that profession..

I'm currently working a part time job at a B&Q store. It's boring af but I'm earning money and because im leeching off my parents by living at home I'm saving about 90% of what i earn.. I've been working since christmas and have £4.5k saved.

Does anybody have some advice on what i should do to get my foot in this. I have no previous experience in sailing/yachting whatsoever. Although I have a family friend who is living in the Greek Islands and they used to be part of the yachting community there. I went to stay at theres last summer and I did notice alot of South Africans around the port area..

Thanks for the info Patron, your lifestyle looks ideal!
