Sounds like fun. If I didn't have myself settled in a fairly cushy job in DC and had the means to move (and were fresh out of college or never went) I'd be all over that. Best data sheet though? Nah.

yeah, it sucks living on yacht, when no one is around. Drinking Crystal Champagne in a hot tub, partying with tons of young hot girls in exotic locations, making $5,000 in tips in one week, etc

I don't know. Making 10K per month as an engineer and living on a yacht sounds pimp. They sometimes hire security for big name personalities. I'm looking into this when I head down to troll Emech.

Is that $3,000/month? At $15/hr? The free rent and food thing is a nice perk but I'm not sure how great of an opportunity that is considering you'd have to be working something like 60 hrs/week unless the work is cake.

Your figures are a little confusing though so correct me if I'm wrong.

You start at $15 hour cash, washing boats, etc. When you get a full time job, it starts at around $3,000 month (free food and board) when the boat charters, you get tips. Around another 3,000 per week.

I was going to drop a Data Sheet on Fort Lauderdale. I stayed there for 6 months, while I was working working on yachts. Lots of foreign girls work on yachts. They make tons of money and love to spend it all partying. Thanks Gmac, no mas informacion.

Patron this sounds very interesting to me, I am currently thinking about changing lifestyles/professions in the next couple years and moving to a new area to live. The money sounds pretty good for an unskilled position, plus the prospects for travel, partying, etc. sound really dope. I'll check out the link you provided when I get a little bit more free time.

One thing I am wondering is how much does luck play into getting a job that is really dope? For some reason I just picture a guy hoping to score a sweet gig and then ending up being stuck doing a bunch of shitty grunt work, how is it that you get to get drunk, party, eat gourmet food, and drink top shelf liquor? I am assuming a lot of that would be dependent on how cool and generous your boss is and the people you are catering to on their vacations.

If a guy goes in there cold without any contacts, references, etc. how long do you figure it would take to get a decent job out there? A guy like myself with some loot already stacked away could get away with dicking around a few weeks without work, but someone without much savings might burn through all their money before getting hired.

Any how, I will add this to the list of ideas I have of things to do once I call it quits up here in Northern Cali., if a guy taps into the right yacht scene, it sounds like he could have quite the ideal lifestyle.

This is how it usually works:
Fly to fort lauderdale
Stay at a crew house
Network with the people at the crewhouse, hit the docks looking for work, post CV online
Work for a few weeks/months doing daywork
Take a one week STWC course ($1,000)
Submit your CV to Crew Companies
If you have any skills, more likely to get hired faster
Jump on a boat ( free room and board) Owner are usually never on board, when charter guest are on board, you get tips)
Always good perks while working on a yacht. The owners have lots of money to spend and don't care. You dont understand how much money they waste every month:
1 million each year for maint.
$50,000 gas for one trip
Over $100,000 month in crew salaries
$30,000 month for dockage
$10,000 month for crew food
$10,000 or more for food a week, when guest are on

3 meals a day cooked by a gourmet chef, go test the wave runner and make sure it works ok, We bought all this wine/beer a month ago, its no good now take it

You can't drink when you have guest on the boat. So the crew usually goes 7 to 10 days without drinking. When the guest leaves, you get a tip around $3,000. everybody hits the bars and spend all their money. I have partied my whole life and never seen anyone party like yachties, it is crazy!!! You have crew members making great money and they blow it all on partying.

Nice data sheet man, I ran into a couple of yachties staying at a hostel in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago and they were partying pretty hard, didn`t ask them much about the work but from what you wrote, it seems like a pretty mint gig.

Is it hard for foreigners to land a gig there? are any of these jobs under the table cash gigs?

Okay, are we talking 3K per crew member or 3K in total for the crew in tips. Because I'm highly skeptical that rich people are typically tipping like 30K for a week on a yacht. Granted, if we are talking a yacht the size of a cruise ship then that;s believable. But I'm picturing a 60-100' yacht. I'm skeptical as to the size of the tips in general in that case.

Your telling me that the yacht owners are at times giving 5K in tips per week to the yacht crew. I doubt this. Maybe once in a blue moon or for the entire crew to share 5k. I was picturing a normal sized yacht when I first wrote the post. Which a small business owner might own. Not a cruise ship like yacht. Which is what I'm assuming he must be on in order to receive that kind of tip frequently. I hadn't read the post about 1 million a year in maintenance cost etc. If he can make like 200+ a year doing that power to him. It seems the forum has lately been producing a lot of ways to make really good money without going into traditional professional careers which also cost a fortune to get into.

A lot of the money is under the table, cash gigs. Lots of foreigners. Mostly people from south Africa. They get a free ride over on a 20-30 feet sailboat. Most boats require a b1/b2 visa. The boat I was working on is small, only 150 feet and cost 50 million to build. Tips are 10% of the charter fee. Average 10 day charter on my boat was $300k without food and gas. Tips are divided equal between crew.

Average pay for engineers, capts and chefs are around $8,000 and $10,000 month and they don't do shit, unless guests or the owners are aboard. Otherwise, they are fucking around and getting paid a shitload of money.

I think it should be mentioned that based on what I've read OP would've been on one of the 25 most expensive yachts in the world. I don't imagine there are many jobs on yachts of that caliber/ which would attract that level of clientelle. Sounds pretty legit and I can see why OP is partying with celebrities and super rich based on the expense!
