Well for one. your credit card is on file. they have your name and all your info.
You could fake that stuff..but that would be a hard picture just to steal a couple things.
I'm sure the website has some sort of insurance also.

after you haggle down..how do you pay the person if done online?

I worked a lady down significantly on the cost of a monthly rental. a good 40 Euro a day under get original asking price.

I told her I would prefer to pay cash..which is technically not legal with air bnb

would I be able to book a week and then pay her cash the difference in the agreed price?
rent one night and give her the bulk in cash?

or would it be easier for her to just discount me on the website?
I don't know how the owner end of airbnb works...


I'm renting months in advance.So the earliest I could meet her in person would be a month before I arrived in the city for a short trip

Well I just booked the apartment for 3 days on Air B&B after agreeing for a month rental and then payed the guy cash for the remainder. Did it on a week to week basis - keep in mind this was the offseason and so he didn't have any real competing tenants and thus was willing to trust me. Also we got to chatting and since it was in EE and I was used to paying cash in Russia for renting I think we sorta immediately figured out what we were both talking about.

My guy was definitely happy we worked it out on a cash basis and didn't go through the Air B&B website after days 1-3. Since you're doing it in advance and have not met the landlord and it's probably 'in season' it might be tougher. But after the few days/week 'trial period' where you've paid through the system you are more 'legit' so they should be willing to trust you more I think.

I just thought of a wild idea.
If you use airbnb.. and rent someones apartment over long period of time...
Could i Airbnb the time out myself? for extra cash while i travel? haha

I made a deal witha guy. its not even over airbnb to there is no online payment.
I just told me what i was willing to pay...we negotiated I gave him him the first month cash.

Ill be here for 2 months..

I feel like...when i take trips for a couple days.. i could rent the place out myself haha
i mean.. at his price.. i could easily make 150 while away for the weekend

I was thinking it might be useful to compile a list of amenities to look for when renting:

1. Air condition/heating (depending on climate; it's hard for me to work if it's too hot)
2. Internet, preferably wireless
3. Necessary rooms and furniture (fully equipped, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, bed, table, chair etc)
4. Washer (i sometimes wash for hand but if I'm lazy and just turn in my clothes at a laundry costs add upp quickly, I find)
5. Mosquito net (where necessary). Though I suppose you can buy and set up one yourself.

Anything else?

What does "essentials" mean? It's a searchable parameter under "filters".

Also, how do I know if the place includes kitchen-ware?

And how do I know if bedclothes are included?

I definitely and always book for like 2 days then book the month in person. It's harder for people to say no face to face and sometimes they just want someone normal living there that they know won't fuck shit up. Having stellar reviews help too. I lived with this random dude for 2 months and it was down right awesome. He was never there and didn't mind me bringing random girls through. I think a good idea if you are thinking of sharing an apartment is to ask the profession. I knew my guy would rarely be home because he was in the medical field.

I've done this several times. I usually book the first week or so online, then ask them afterwards if they want to rent outside AirBNB. Let them see you don't destroy their place. It also helps to have a lot of good reviews and have your Facebook and LinkedIn connected, particularly if your LinkedIn has a lot of connections and you seem legit.

I went abroad to do a teaching course and used AirBnB when I came back to London to look for a job and get settled again.

I've spent 3 months in 3 different AirBnB's.

The first one was amazing - the family were really nice and they actually changed the bedding and stuff.

The second one was in a good location and was a reasonable price but the host worked from home and insisted on talking to me all the time, which was annoying because I just wanted to introvert and switch off when at home. Also he had OCD and the toilet seat had to be down and the bathmat in the exact same position.

Well my current one is pretty much the exact opposite - the house is untidy, the dog has shit in my room a couple of times. I'm scared to cook in the kitchen. But it's very chilled here.

Anyway, if I was writing sociology or psychology books I'd just live in different AirBnB's and I'd have a wealth of material about how truly odd other people are.

I wish they would ditch the "B" because all the breakfasts have been rubbish.

Booked a pretty nice apartment off airbnb for a few weeks and a fair price. Thinking of subleasing (airbnb within airbnb) for a higher price. How do you guys think I should go about doing this?

Here's an AirBnB tip if you're in a situation where you're unsure if you'll go/get to your destination(s):

1) Contact multiple hosts about availability via AirBnB within 24 hours of you knowing when you'll go/get to your destination. I say multiple hosts since not all of them may get back to you, never mind have availability, despite their calendar saying so.

2) Wait for the hosts to get back to you with offers.

3) Here's the key: since the offers are valid for 24 hours, you'll be able accept or refuse them by the time you know when you'll go/get to your destination. Obviously, try to inform the host as soon as possible, since they're not hotel receptionists.
