I had a friend who was shot and killed by random gun fire at a concert. I sometimes wonder if he'd have lived to be a teenager had there been stricter gun regulations in place.

Let's keep everything in perspective:

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-...0655.story

Quote:As the political debate over gun control heats up in the aftermath of the mass killing in Aurora, Colo., here are three important trends to keep in mind: Criminal violence in America has dropped to levels not seen in more than a generation, the percentage of Americans owning guns is down and public support for gun control measures has plummeted as well.

Can't be that smart if he can’t follow the instructions on a box of hair color.

Thought he was the Joker, but really he's just a clown.

Not brilliant. Not a genius. A mediocre student intern with a B average in high school who didn't even take any AP classes.

His big student intern project? Writing Flash to play Rock Paper Scissors. Which took him eight weeks. And didn't work in the end.

And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

Finally: The equation "fear for Gun control opposition = BETA" goes mainstream:

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/07/23/opinio...?hpt=hp_c1

"The good news is that as America becomes safer, fewer and fewer Americans feel the need for a weapon. The overall violent crime index has tumbled by one-third since the early 1990s."

However, will it really take approx. 38 more mass killings before America will finally wakeup to the 21st century? Half a century will have gone by before th US will synchronize with the rest of the world...

So long folks...

RE: 14 people killed during Batman premiere
America has always had, and will always have a fascination with owning guns. No other western country has such a Freudian obsession with firearms.

A handgun for personal protection is one thing. An assault rifle is another. There's no need for anyone to be a one-man militia. The assault weapons ban expired under Bush, and Obama has done absolutely nothing. What people in America don't understand...it doesn't really matter who is in office. EVERYTHING and I mean absolutely everything in America is right vs left (and pissing off the other side is all they care about). For example, there's right wingers who are probably happy they can tell liberals - no new gun laws even after this.

Then there is the absurd classic argument is these people will always find weapons. Nerds like this guy simply don't have the know-how to go on the black market and find these guns from street thugs or legit mafiosos. Yet, anyone willing to spend the money in America can order one online. In a country so obsessed with homeland security, this doesn't make sense. They shouldn't be made so readily available, but they are. Might as well start selling bazookas as well, for personal use.

In their way, beta nerds are a bigger threat to society at large than alpha street thugs can be. Truth is stranger than fiction.

I dont see how thats an absurd argument. Look at Tim McVeigh. This guy had enough knowledge of explosives to booby trap his apartment - he could have pulled off some kind of a bomb in a crowded place if guns weren't available and he was hellbent on killing a large group.

I'm happy with the assault weapons expiration. While I have not bought an assault rifle, I do plan on it when I get the money. I had old family and old family friends who's bones lie overseas, and they died carrying these sort of weapons. It's nice to own a little piece of history.
Bluemonday, you should get yourself a weapons related hobby. You haven't had good clean fun until you've gone trap shooting or even done some serious archery. It will at least prompt some constructive reflection on your gun nut = Freudian dick obsession attitude.

You mean like wiring your apartment up with bombs isn't something these types of nerds would be able to do?

Huh If you know where to get a sack of weed, you can get a gun from someone down the line. It's not as complicated as you're making it seem.

Still, allowing assault weapons to be ordered over the internet makes it far too easy for any loose bolt to get his hands on one.

Of course it's still possible, I'm sure the Mexican mafia would be willing to sell you one. Getting around to it would be much harder though.

Gun control wouldn't have stopped the killing.
Let's just break down a scenario where guns aren't sold to regular citizens:
Since the guy was a "nerd" as you put it, we could make the logical conclusion that he has some familiarity with the internet. Assuming he's competent enough to do a quick google search, he'd be able to find out about places like Silk Road. After a couple software installations (which a google search could walk him through) he'd be all set to buy guns way more powerful than the ones he had. He could have just as easily looked up recipes for things like poison gases, or homemade mortar and artillery rounds, both of which would have cause significantly more carnage.
Considering that lot's of unintelligent rebel groups and poor street gangs throughout the world use home built guns and explosives that are hastily constructed in ramshackle workshops, I doubt that a 21st century western man would have a hard time producing much more sophisticated killing devices.

Whether guns are legal or not, people will still continue to murder each other.

You got a link you can post up? I'd love to buy an assault rifle over the internet. But I'm pretty sure you can't provide such a link because assault rifles are ILLEGAL in the US (that's not to say it can't be done just like anything else you really want and are willing to break laws for, but it ain't gonna be at GunsRUs.com).

Please go learn about guns from someplace other than the media before you start talking about them.

You can buy many illegal products off of silk road; it's a pain in the ass to set up your computer to be able to access it, but it does use technology to make both payments and listings anonymous. Of course, you, the buyer has to reveal some sort of shipment address, compromising your anonymity.

I've only heard of people buying drugs off of it though - I've never heard of guns being purchased this way. I would guess they're too hard to get through the mail, but I really don't know anything about the subject and am just wildly speculating at this point.

you do realize that guns are illegal in Chicago, yet there have been more people shot in Chicago in the last two weeks then this guy shot in what was one of the largest mass shootings in US history, right??

you see, here's the thing about people who shoot people - they usually go out of their way to shoot people who cant shoot back.

Those shootings in Chicago involve real-life street thugs. Gangsters. Not reclusive beta nerds. Those typically involve drugs and target other gang members, not random people (although it can happen). Also, "in the hood" shootings never get much press, and there is a racial aspect to this.

it doesnt matter if its street thugs or beta dweebs. if someone wants to kill someone they'll find a way. if you make guns illegal they dont care. if you keep them from guns it still doesnt matter - they just blow shit up or figure something else out.

And that is the thing.

If Society has issues then now amount of laws will fix them. Laws only exist whiten society and are legal and political system will never try and touch the societal issues which breed people to flip out and take thins to the max.

But it is not just Govt or Law that has to change things. Society only changes when the people its self realize the problem and bring change. Everything else is just a band-aid over a gushing wound.

America has a societal issue that stems deeper and is more complex then what most people can easily understand. But people can easily understand that something is "off" or not right. But instead of them looking at themselves at what THEY need to do to fix it they cry that the very system that can't fix the situation (law, Govt, etc) clamp down on it instead of addressing the issue themselves.

I understand supporting assault weapons probably looks "alpha", and that's why it's universally agreed on. It also needs to be known that there are lots of loose bolts out there. Holmes for example. Weapons have a capacity to kill innocent crowds of people, drugs do not.
